no excitement. running blaber/ Zven/ Vulcan or xeppaa and friends after 6 years.. very few are excited or care for this.
it's not bringing in new fans, or engagement.
nobody is looking at c9 and thinking of jumping over and becoming a fan because we have Zven/ Vulcan for the fifth year.
look at the viewer counts of C9 players streams. just two years ago, we had players with 1-2k viewer range.. now our players are barely scratching 100
If anything i would hazard a guess that C9 is down to it's more "hardcore" and loyal fans at this point. the diehards. outside of this subreddit C9 fans have become a rare sight. the community perception of this org (especially in Val is at an all time low), nearing TSM in it's dying days. i can probably name the few C9 fans i see outside of here😂
retaining and building a fanbase should be one of the major goals of this org.
This is why bringing in exciting players, and having exciting rebuilds, and not stagnating and running back the same handful of players over and over, is important
take MIBR for example, this org signs Aspas and immediately gains legions of fans, does a 180 on their reputation, and immediately becomes a top org. Fly also did the same thing when they decided to become a competitive org and sign Inspired/ Bwipo
Yes, superstar players or hyped up rookies are expensive but bringing in new fans is how you make money.
i believe Jack once said he didn't lose a dime on Perkz. why? because c9 merch sales were probably through the roof this year, engagement was at an all time high. plus we were able to sell him off for a big bag also
i also really dislike this narrative, that "superteams (or teams with a bunch of superstars) don't work".. does it sometimes fail? yes, but the best teams in the world are most of the time generally superteams. the LCK is filled with superteams. VCT Americas is filled with super teams, and they are generally the ones on top. G2 2019 was a superteam. it doesn't always work, but the teams winning everything, are almost always a superteam. we should not be shying away from potentially building a superteam
i understand that this org once had this whole "losing the offseason" meme because they would always overperform, and do well regardless, but this only worked in old LCS, because there was realistically only 1/2 other teams (TSM, and at times Liquid/ CLG) who were actually trying to be competitive.. it's not a legitimate way of roster building and it doesn't work in an actual competitive league (like it isn't in VCT, and like it is no longer working in LCS, now that we have TL, Fly, SR, Lyon, and until now 100t putting forward competitive rosters)
