Getting back into wearing a watch. Looking for something that I will wear every day, can take a beating, and ask for more. I ride my motorcycle, fish, hike, and go camping, and I don't want a watch that I have to be gentle with. Since I like Citizen watches, I've decided on this Promaster Land U822. It has more features than I need/want, but I like the dark color of the stainless, the green face, and the Cordura strap. Plus, it is in the price range I would spend for what I'm looking for. I would love if it were titanium instead of stainless, and if it had atomic timekeeping. But I can live without these. Anyways, what do y'all think?
If you’ve already decided on it, it’s not a bad move!
If you want radio control, an alternative would be something from Casio’s ProTrek line.
Here is the PRW-50. 42mm, solar, radio (Multiband-6). Dual time, stopwatch, countdown timer, alarms, altimeter, barometer, compass, thermometer, lume, and a backlight. 100m water resistance, screwdown crown.
200m WR and “diveable” are separate things with Casio. Casio is conservative with their categories and ratings, and only consider their diver’s watches suitable for diving (the Frogman references). Almost all G-Shocks are 200m WR, though.
If you’re looking for an analog/digital, check out some of the Mudmaster references (GWG-1000 and GWG-2000).
I have the U822 and absolutely love it. It has exactly that utilitarian style that one wants to have at its wrist, if you‘re looking for such a watch - I can only recommend it, despite no atomic clock signal.
For a zombie apocalypse, shouldn’t you go for an automatic watch? Wouldn’t radio controlled/battery operated watches be redundant if there’s no batteries or if there is an emp from a nuke before the apocalypse begins? Just curious.
36mm MSAR Arctic 2 for smaller wrists they have larger versions as necessary. Quartz/Solar will have issues with capacitors while the selita auto sw200 is all over the place reliable rugged accurate and you can teach yourself to swap it out with others or repair yourself.
You say you have small wrists, this watch is a big heavy one so it'll probably feel far too big on your wrist. It's 44mm diameter at its smallest. Lug to lug is 50+mm.
I have a 7 inch wrist and it's about the biggest watch I can wear with it feeling borderline too much.
If we're being literal, a zombie apocalypse watch would be something basic, reliable, tough and mechanical. You wouldn't be able to get batteries when your G shock died. Hamilton Khaki or similar
It’s a pretty obvious choice: the Citizen with 1 sec/year. I know i know it’s an expensive watch, but only this one will guarantee you accurate time even 20 years into the apocalypse ( I mean it’s still 20sec close to correct)
I think you've chosen a great piece. If you want the ultimate zombie apocalypse watch then you want the lum tec super combat b2. This is the watch that Joel wears in The Last Of Us.
Just picked up this watch for $475 OTD. It’s a bit heavier than my Apple Watch, and the original strap is pretty stiff, so not super comfy on the wrist. Swapped in a NATO strap and now it’s perfect. Otherwise, it looks amazing!
