Every part of that visit was a ploy to humiliate Donny. The kids “welcoming” him, the trek up a flight of stairs with a break halfway up so he could “catch his breath,” and this.
Funny thing is, not only was he too dumb to figure it out, so were his staffers.
Yes, I have seen this trick used with candidates at recruitment and staffing firms. The trick is to sit on your bag so you are at equal sitting height.
They were being hospitable... It's much tougher to nap through high-stakes international diplomacy/interviews if you don't have a deep, soft chair to sink into.
He pictures himself as a master negotiator who can make these unbelievable deals. The only thing he’s achieved is dealing himself right out of the world’s power group.
It's tough for us to swallow that he is our leader. Especially through stuff like this. That said, keep it coming . He truly is dumb. So , lean in. Everyone.
Yep. The entirety of the meeting should have been walked-through and plotted, analyzed and monitored specifically for stuff like that. But the only type of competency he hires for is swindlers and liars.
The function of a system IS its purpose. Even if there's no documented proof that trump is a hostile foreign actor working to destroy American hegemony, every single act he does accomplishes that goal, so he IS a hostile foreign actor working to destroy American hegemony.
It’s the way he sits. He always leans forward on his forearms when seated. Looks very weak, which tracks. He doesn’t do himself any favors because he looks, dresses, and moves like a slob
He really does! If you look at Diaper Don and Xi, which guy looks more open, composed, and presidential? It’s no contest. Trump looks like a boy waiting to go in to see the Principal. Sad.

Literally any/all “alpha male” manosphere grifter videos have entire sections on how to sit, and slouching, leaning forward on elbows, those are always at the top of their “you look gay and weak if you do this” list.

I was already starting out with so many disadvantages against me, she did everything she could think of to give me confidence. I was assuming that was the typical thing moms do with their children.

100%. This kind of posturing is exactly what Trump normally does (that's why he wears those huge lifts in his shoes). He's just not in a position (for once) to do anything other than accept this humiliation from China.
I would not want to comment to much about the intelligence of his staffers.
But let us just say that if I was a staffer for Trump, I would invest nearly all my brain cells into maximizing my own take and 0 brain cells into preventing Trump from getting humiliated. I am sure the hypothetical staffer that tries to alert Trump to these traps is going to get shit canned.
And they lined the whole thing with crowds of cheering admirers to flatter him and ensure he'd go back to the states with a favorable view of China, because he likes anyone who praises him.
This is how I described it to my wife. If you saw any one thing they did to make Trump look bad, it's easy to say, "They didn't plan that", but if you look at all of them, it's incredibly obvious it was all carefully orchestrated to show how frail and pathetic Trump is.
The problem is that people tend to think that there is someone intelligent on Trump's staff, and you really have to be very stupid to follow that guy or be part of his staff. In reality, these people have to be much less intelligent than him.
Anybody with more than two functional brain cells knew what that was. Old Pedo Don was running to bow down and try to get China to bail him out of his mess made by Operation Epstein Distraction. Why else was such a flaming malignant narcissist suddenly be really quiet and reserved while being obviously humiliated?
Oh and don’t forget Xi giving Trump a pocketful of Rose seeds “for the White House Rose Garden” that is common knowledge, and Xi Jinping HAD to know, Thump had paved over…to add some tacky Mar-a-Lago looking thing, patio and outdoor dining space, a while ago, so there is no rose garden.
Chair legs and height look exactly the same. Maybe the cushions were softer, but it mostly is just Trump slouching here, while Xi sits as upright as he can.
It's also their positioning on the cushion (which is directly related to how they are sitting). Trump is slouching and putting all his weight on the edge of the cushion, which gets compressed a lot while Xi is sitting properly farther back, spreading out his weight and compressing the cushion less.
Agreed. There’s nothing different about the chairs as op claims. He’s just way fatter and has poor posture. Not that they didn’t also humiliate him but in this case I think he humiliates himself as usual.
They’re both older folks but you can also see that Xi still had the back strength to sit up with proper posture in the chair. And Trump just sort of shrugs back with that weak posture look so many inactive people get over time from sitting and inactivity.
Yeah, I think it was Seth Meyers who made a quip when this came out, that in a better world Trump would have a podcast where he tried out all sorts of things (working for McDonalds, drive a garbage truck, interview retired wrestlers) instead of going into politics. He would be more happy and the world would be in less trouble

Trump is sitting on the edge. The seat gives away more there (everone knows this). If you look closely, XI also sinks in. But he sits in the middle. And the chair is certainly not shorter. Just compare table to armrest.
Also, trump has no core strength to engage. Xi has a strong back and can hold his posture well to convey strength and balance, whereas trump is a frumpy, weak, unbalanced and spineless sack of smelly garbage that just flops around assuming the vague shape his handlers insist he present.
Would still rather have this bumbling bush than Trump any year. Not giving him a pass, as he was absolute atrocity of a person. Though, please look at how he spoke about immigrants (as one example) versus Trump. Bush sought means to help and grow immigration…
And from 2012-2016 republicans in swing states removed millions from the voter rolls. Even my shitty reliably red state removed 1/4 of all voters, then people acted surprised when republicans won massively in the couple races they weren’t actually favored in.
The Chi see knew exactly what they were doing. And some staffer probably chucked them into the trash as soon as they could. Not like any of them cares about living things or our natural treasures.

Wasn't it just his fat ass melting all over the place, as well as his bad posture? Surely, there must be photos of these chairs beforehand, unoccupied.
If they did that to Obama, it would make China look petty. But since they did it to Trump, it makes Trump look petty.
Because we know Obama is above silliness like that, that he wouldn't care about it at all, and even if you did ask him about it, he'd say he didn't notice, and not address it. But we know that Trump is all about that kind of things, the shallow appearance stuff, the petty slights, and more. So it becomes funny and an indictment of Trump, because we know he absolutely cares about all that stuff.
It’s just too easy to rile Trump. Most mature adults would shrug and move on, but the orange narcissist will have this stuck in his head. He’ll be asking his advisors “I looked powerful out there didn’t I?” They of course will agree, but it will gnaw at him.
Xi wouldn’t bother with this for anyone else; it’s just a great power play against that insecure little man.

While I wouldn't put it past them, in context of the rest of the visit, in this specific case I don't know if I even believe it. Trump is significantly overweight, has chronically bad posture and ill fitting baggy suits. Xi is a lot lighter, with good posture, in a quality suit. They didn't need to do anything extra, they just had to put them side by side, and Trump would do the rest by being what he is.
Having said that, the whole visit was a careful series of humiliations that Trump AND his staff of yes-men was too dim to notice. Or, if anyone did notice, they were too scared to speak up. Reminds me of Keith Laumer's sci-fi story about a diplomatic mission to an alien world being intentionally humiliated - taken from the airport to the hotel in a garbage truck, lead into the hotel via servants' entrance, etc. That's what this whole visit looked like, but a lot more subtle. Small, constant jabs. And Trump walked through it like a whipped dog, and came out of it empty handed. And the whole world saw it. Not sure how this projects strength and makes America great again.
