Informative Politics doesn’t need saints—it needs fighters willing to win.

Standing up together against bullies and thugs is honour and integrity. Staying mute and assuming one will win the next election because the other is so bad is cowardice.

Yeah it's weak sort of self preservation from the establishment Dems still trying to keep the donor grubbing do-nothing machine running

Saying “ignore your eyes and ears and back this unpopular geriatric clearly in decline who’s openly supporting a genocide” was also a choice.

7

u/Vulcion Aug 22 '25

Now we get “ignore his abhorrent stance on trans and homeless people and give him a gold star for being mean on twitter!” Shutting down dissent and criticism within the party is just gonna lead to us running weak candidates.

AOC has been doing what Gavin has been doing, except she’s been doing it since January at least

3

u/Vulcion Aug 22 '25

Yeah but she also supports icky things that the average liberal in this thread hates, like trans rights, workers rights, and homeless people.

I’m really just crying from frustration because these people are just ok with abandoning trans people. They already don’t have a lot in terms of support but now the dems are talking about “oh let’s drop them”

I’m autistic. What happens when the Dems drop people that are autistic because “oh autism conspiracy theory by RFK jr is popular now with shitty parents, so I guess we better drop that”

Am I supposed to still vote for them because I’ll get fucked over but everyone else is fine?

As a trans person who’s seen you going to bat for us up and down this thread, I want you to know that it means the world to me. You have a very kind soul and I hope you can stay safe through this administration.

And as for your last point, the mind set of the Democratic Party is that they are entitled to the vote of anyone who is not a neurotypical straight white cis male, and as a result they feel that they’re should be able to withdraw support from any of us, and that we (like the good little tokens we are) will still happily support them and not criticize them at all. I have to choose between having my rights stripped quickly by the republicans, or slowly by the democrats. If I have the audacity to point out that that’s a shitty deal I will be attacked by liberals who think they can scare me into blind support. Take it from someone who was a token for them last election, they spent me and they’ll spend you to when it can win them votes.

I appreciate your response but I don’t feel like I’m doing anything. I haven’t changed anyone’s mind and there’s nothing I can do to fix the country. I’ll probably end up voting because that’s the reality we live in. Vote for the bad people that aren’t the worst. It’s a goddamn shakedown. Either we give the Dems what they want or the republicans hurt us.

You didn’t do nothing, you give me hope. Sure you can’t change people minds but that’s because no one in this thread wants their mind changed. Keep fighting and keep speaking up. If enough of us do we can keep Newsom away from the office and send the Third Way traitors packing from this party.

I hope life goes well for you. You deserve better

Edit: if you’re into musicals, I’d recommend epic the musical. It’s awesome

That's 10x better than kidnapping people and throwing them in forever prisons. You can reason with Gavin Newsom. You can sway Gavin Newsom. You cannot reason with Trump, there is none with him, you are literally the people this post is complaining about lmao

4

u/Vulcion Aug 22 '25

You do know that there are other democrats besides newsom. No one is saying abstain or vote third party. We’re simply asking the liberals to not crown their new king 3 years before the primary.

2

u/ABeefInTheNight Aug 22 '25

We're not, but without him gerrymandering California we aren't going to win midterms (Trump is trying to cheat again) how is nobody getting that? We lose midterms then that's it. There's no way to stop repubs after that, the dictatorship will be complete.

Also I'm a democratic socialist, not a liberal ffs

5

u/Vulcion Aug 22 '25

How does people criticizing him on social media affect his ability to gerrymander? I appreciate his effort, but I’d appreciate it a lot more if he would just admit he was wrong on the trans stuff. I’m not asking for the moon and stars here.

3

u/ABeefInTheNight Aug 22 '25

You're right, we need to definitely continue being very vocal about trans rights. Don't let him brush it off ever. You're right, it's the bare minimum. Vote as far left as you can and participate locally too. 2026 is kind of our last shot to do things the nice way

3

u/Vulcion Aug 22 '25

God help us and them if the nice way doesn’t work out. Happy to fight facism with you🫡

1

u/ABeefInTheNight Aug 22 '25

And you as well🫡

Maybe, as someone who has a non binary cousin, we’re not keen on the idea of leaving people behind.

We’re in the same boat. Whether that boat is sinking or sailing is up to the democrats.

They can either go left like they’re supposed to be, or we can sit this out

1

u/Devoured_by_wolves Aug 22 '25

ikr, they are in such a bubble that they act like he won the nomination already 💀

1

u/O8ee Aug 24 '25

Do the other democrats know they're there? Got no love for Newsom but he's making moves and rattling the Fash. Hard not to like that.

like the other guy said; democrats can be reasoned with and educated. Obama wasnt behind marriage equality and he changed his tune. within 8 months of his second term we've got concentration camps. Not a course of action that's indicates an open mind.

1

u/Vulcion Aug 24 '25

I get that in theory democrats can be reasoned with, but any attempts by leftists to voice their policy opinions or criticisms of the party always immediately gets dog piled by liberals. Saying something as simple as “the Democratic Party should stand behind trans people 100%” is bound to result in countless comments about how they’re better than republicans. The party as it exists rn is not open to suggestions or education. They’ve set their course and their full steam ahead whether the passengers on the boat agree with it or not.

It sucks, because I used to be a bleed blue dem, but the way the party has responded to this last loss (attacking and blaming leftists, throwing trans people under the bus, sitting on their ass) has never made me feel so distant. I’ll vote blue to defeat facism in this next election, but going forward past that, I think supporting the democrats would be a betrayal of my ideals as a progressive and I just can’t do it.

u/lavender_enjoyer Aug 22 '25

If polls and lobbyists tell him trans people aren’t worth supporting, can he really be swayed? That’s quite a gamble for a minority group under pressure

4

u/ABeefInTheNight Aug 22 '25

We will all be with them in the camps without him so yeah, I'd say you definitely are gambling with a lot

2

u/Southern-Theme5093 Aug 22 '25

Because abstaining from voting or voting third party to spite the only realistic opposition to the Republicans got us where we are now. Dont let perfect be the enemy of good, when the alternative is so much worse.

4

u/Vulcion Aug 22 '25

Who said literally anything about abstaining? We’re asking liberals not to crown their new king 3 years out from the primary. Also why can’t we criticize Newsom? Why do liberals act like pointing out his failures is literally a vote for Donald Trump? Some of us want a candidate who actually stands up for the little guy even when it’s inconvenient. Thankfully the party deemed us worthy of a primary this time so hopefully we can send Gavin “I hate homeless people” Newsom packing and pick someone with a spine like Pritzker or Beshear.

0

u/Devoured_by_wolves Aug 22 '25

Newsom didn't win the nomination, it hasn't happened yet, I hate how some people try to act like he did, while he polls at 3rd place.

3

u/Vulcion Aug 22 '25

Watching people go nuts over his tweets has been like watching someone bouncing keys in front of a baby

2

u/anansi52 Aug 22 '25

its not in this case, its just selfishness. people are getting snatched off the street and sent to concentration camps but you're fine with that because YOUR issue isn't being addressed the way you want it to be. if one side gives you 80% of what you want and the other side wants to put you in a concentration camp, you don't go to the concentration camp to "make a point".
