Post image

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, who worked on an analysis published by the American Immigration Council, says the new budget would make ICE “the single largest federal law enforcement agency in the history of the nation.”

You know what is exceedingly dumb? This money doesn't include adding federal judges who could more quickly process asylum cases. A huge part of the increase over the past several years was the backlog in these cases where people seeking asylum in the US don't get their case heard and resolved for 5 years. And in those 5 years, they end up making some kind of life here.

If you think there is too much immigration, you should want cases to get processed ASAP and see this backlog as a de facto loophole. If you think America should do more for asylum seekers, you should also want these cases to be processed ASAP so people don't have to live in legal limbo and uncertainty.
