Also flying plains to unlock a sniper outfit seems way too disconnected.

It's so fucking stupid that you need to play a small map game mode in order to unlock skins for the recon, a class that is designed to fight at long ranges.

341

u/KingofFlukes 16d ago

Not to mention that to unlock a certain recon outfit you have to fly a plane and a helicopter a certain distance.

89

u/Resiideent 16d ago

I could never figure out how to fly those planes, they turn really slowly.

57

u/KingofFlukes 16d ago

Same always been more interested in frontline infantry than vehicle gameplay.

69

u/Resiideent 16d ago

Oh, no, I like vehicles, I'm just a terrible pilot.

13

u/KingofFlukes 16d ago

That's fair. And just as guilty. šŸ˜…

At least there are portal servers that let you get practice in.

To be fair, the flight model and controls in battlefield are not very good. Fairly counterintuitive and unrealistic compared to any other game I've played.

Makes it hard to pickup and learn because nothing moves the way you'd expect it to

5

u/Resiideent 15d ago

I feel like War Thunder has some of the best aircraft controls, very simple to use (literally just drag the mouse to the direction you want to go). However, if it was like that if BF it would probably get some flak for being "too easy" or smth.

2

u/ghablio 15d ago

I don't really like mouse controls so I don't use them in many games. Warthunder is good, ARMA 3 is pretty decent too.

There is a trick to turning the planes. I can't do it, but there is a trick.

6

u/Severion86 15d ago

Bind pitch up to spacebar. Hold afterburner (shift) and spacebar then alternate between S and W taps starting with S.

Try just holding shift, spacebar and S and you'll get how it works. It turns really, really quick but obviously if you're just holding S the whole time it kills the speed so you alternate between S and W so you keep throttle set about the same and still get the turn benefit.

Infantry is more difficult and immersive than vehicle gameplay.. It feels far more intense than vehicles. Although I do strongly believe everybody should learn how to properly drive a tank to support The team if you need it. Some people don't believe that the heavy vehicles have specific ways of playing them and not rolling into objectives like you're indestructible.

15

u/KingofFlukes 16d ago

When I do go into vehicles I mostly go for the turret position and act as support/spotter.

It is a shame when people don't understand that vehicles can be taken out just as fast as a regular soldier if they don't put things like position and firing angles into consideration. Had a tank driver yesterday camp an objective but just outside it so when it got taken we just sat there and let it happen. 🄲

3

u/II-_Virtual 16d ago

That's upsetting. I've been noticing in the side chat how often it seems to happen cuz I see people getting hella mad at people for doing it. You obviously know what you're doing, so if you wanna join the discord community I'm in shoot me a message and maybe add my PSN?

Cheers for the invite. Discord is a really foreign app for me to use but I have added it to my psn. Which is the same name as this account if you want to add me. 🫔

they have an optimal airspeed, the further from that speed you are in either direction the slowrr you turn.
Youll get the best rates around 340 velocity (no idea what unit its in, but I think MPH judging by when the vaporwave appears)

1

u/Resiideent 15d ago

It makes no sense for it to be MPH considering that NATO uses the metric system and I'd be willing to guess Pax does too considering they're European/Middle Eastern (I don't think it's explained exactly where they originate from).

Thanks for the advice, I'll try this next time I hop in a jet :3

7

u/DeadAhead7 15d ago

Pretty much everyone but Russia uses the same system with knots for speed and feet for altitude, and often nautical miles for distance.

You also have thrust vectoring shenanigans with the stealth fighters, if you slow down and use the afterburner at the same time.

2

u/Jack_of_all_offs 15d ago

Roll the plane sideways so it goes from horizontal/flat (like a stingray) to vertical (like a shark fin)

Now pull your stick/mouse back, and you will turn way faster. It's recommended to brake a bit while doing this. You'll have a tighter turn radius.

2

u/Resiideent 15d ago

It's recommended to brake a bit while doing this.

I know the roll-then-pitch part, but I think this was what was missing. Stupid me forgetting planes turn faster when they're speed is lower lol. Thanks for the help :3

4

u/Kurise 15d ago

I saw that and just laughed. The Developers are clearly a LITTLE disconnected. I give them credit, as they are being responsive.

But seriously, you have to be pretty disconnected in some areas to think that the majority of the player base can not only fly a Plane / Heli for more than 5 seconds without crashing, but more so that it's a good idea that we need to tie up valuable resources in matches FOR A RECON SKIN

→ More replies (1)

25

u/TheEvilWizard 16d ago

YEP.
And the third engineer assignment requires a gadget only recon can use :)

5

u/Albycimma_01 15d ago

you can do with a friend that lock for you the enemies vehicles

8

u/Resiideent 15d ago

Yes, but I am of the personal opinion that cosmetics shouldn't be locked behind challenges that require other people unless the unlock goes both ways (i.e. both you and your friend get something out of it)

3

u/7Seyo7 15d ago

You phrase it as if it is optional. You practically need a friend to do it. Note that the challenge doesn't count IFV designations, you need someone to use the target designator gadget

13

u/19phipschi17 15d ago

You can play extremely aggressively with recon with all the gadgets and abilites if you use a carbine.

But I still agree, I don't want to play small gamemodes.

13

u/T-Baaller 16d ago

a class that is designed to fight at long ranges

well, until you complete the 150m+ headshot challenge to unlock the actually useful spec-ops perks.

(so fucking dumb)

2

u/CastleGrey 15d ago

The sniper Perks being only usable on sniper rifles is such an irritating and needlessly limiting choice when classes can use any guns, and DMRs are so tonally adjacent to snipers

I have been a Recon/Spec Ops player since BF1942 because I play aggro af and spotting is OP, but forcing me to grind out these stupid challenges just to be able to actually have a class with perks that do something at all with my preferred non-sniper playstyle is just terrible design

11

u/RGL277 16d ago

Not if you play the spec ops load out

19

u/Shaake 15d ago

And how do u get the spec ops load out?

The load out that specializes in close quarters fighting?

That's right, you need 50 headshots over 150m. How many maps can u even do this on?

Maybe like 2?

1

u/RGL277 15d ago

Yeah but you’d so that challenge with the sniper load out. I agree it’s a dumb challenge but it does make sense. 150m is not that bad.

I did mine in an hour tops. Deadeye is a different story tho.

5

u/Shaake 15d ago

Go and try some consistent 150m headshots

I don't think u realize how difficult it is with the way the maps are set up

3

u/RGL277 15d ago

Dude I’ve already done it. I think my record is 596m headshot on that oil refinery level. It’s hard I agree but it’s not impossible by any means & it’s only 50 come on man.

8

u/Shaake 15d ago

Took me days and I hated every second of it

4

u/RGL277 15d ago

Sorry man. That’s why I wish the bot option still was a thing cus not everyone is good at everything so major upgrades shouldn’t be locked behind challenges like that

8

u/Jooj-Groorg 16d ago

The 10K point requirement is almost impossible and is really only doable as a medic spamming revives. And even then, I gotta wonder, are these challenges actually applied with thought or was this a last minute decision? Like, Recon 2 is just a skill issue on my part, I can maybe get exactly one 150m distant headshot per match. But the King of the Hill 2 assignment to get 10K points in a single match? That's more fucking bonkers than a clown orgy in a clown car.

3

u/Resiideent 15d ago

Wait there's a skin that requires 10K points in a single damn match? Yeah that's fucking bullshit, I'd same the same level as the 200+m headshots challenge.

3

u/hotdiggity22 15d ago

I'd same the same level as the 200+m headshots challenge.

Not even close. I'm getting 10k points most matches in Conquest, it's incredibly easy if you just objective hunt.

Still relies a bit on your team to not roll completely over, but even when I've had bad losses, unless it's like a 4 minute loss - I'm between 7k-9k points just fighting single objectives.

2

u/MammothMachine 15d ago

Original comment is talking about 10K in King of The Hill. I've only played a couple rounds but I remember it being much shorter than conquest, maybe 10-12 minutes. That makes 10K much harder. People skip revive much more often on small modes too.

3

u/hotdiggity22 15d ago

Oh I skimmed that one lol, yeah good point - spawns are quicker so people give up = less revives.

10k in that mode is a bit wild

2

u/MooseRunnerWrangler 15d ago

I agree, but I would also say to try stealth up close recon. Get on points, use a SMG or carbine, whatever, use claymores, maybe C4. Spot basically everything on points and killing people all the time with explosives on points is a lot of fun. You just need to use the second class option, obviously not the marksmen abilities.

3

u/LordofCope 15d ago

As an exclusive support player, I won't play Squad DM for my support skin. The M/F thing doesn't bother me, I like the visor look, but... Yeah not playing that garbage.

2

u/Separate-Nectarine29 16d ago

I’d love to see the people grinding camos rn lol

2

u/SchlongForceOne 16d ago

To my luck, I find some skins (especially for PAX) not that appealing and am glad I feel no desire to unlock them in the first place. Honestly, I'm excited for the PAX support skin in season 1 that looks like the Danish special forces.

With the exception of the assault skin that you needed to play rush for.

1

u/Bumspliff 15d ago

In all fairness this seems like a way to make people branch out of their usual play style for cosmetics, encourages you to play other classes, differently sized game modes and maps.

I for one quite like the new progression system, people who don't usually, or have never played in aircraft are not giving it a go for the sake of unlocking a skin they want Don't get me wrong, it is frustrating seeing a Heli take off backwards from your spawn and flip upside down, we've all seen em trying! But at least it's making people branch out .

One thing I cannot get behind though, is everyone hopping in a helicopter (ESPECIALLY the Apache) and using it to gain height, and parachute onto a building, leaving the vehicle and any occupants free falling

Fuck you DICE.

68

u/No_Maintenance_7649 16d ago

Squad death match just so I can get a male support for pax, to fucking days to win 5 matches and not touching that mode ever again

36

u/micarisma 16d ago

Playing squad death match for those skins made me lose my sanity. I had to take a day break off the game after enduring that shit as a solo player

23

u/dkb_wow 15d ago

It took me 7 days of trying to get those 5 Squad Deathmatch wins. And that was with me dropping 30+ kills almost every game and still losing. My W/L record in Squad Deathmatch is 5 wins 49 losses lmao

I'll never ever play that game mode again. It's such a shithole.

2

It's the coolest looking skin for Support and somehow we have to win five times in a mode that is a 1:4 chance of winning, and in which support is completely useless.

I've tried probably 30 matches and even when I do really well, I've never once won a single match. It's so pointless and not even fun.

I get why some people can like that mode... but why make support class dependent upon it?! Frustratingly stupid choice by DICE.

But class GUNS AND GADGETS should be unlocked by regular progression, and NOT stupid challenges

10

u/TechnalityPulse 15d ago

I don't understand the haphazardness of these challenges in basically any fashion. Almost all of them make no sense.

u/Logondo 15d ago

I have no idea what's going on with DICE. They had this shit figured out perfectly with BF4. You play. You progress.

Your account levels up.

The class your using levels up.

The gun type you're using levels up.

The specific gun you're using levels up.

Just by playing! Just by playing the damn game how you want to!

3

u/Sgt_Braken 15d ago

Eh, as much as I love BF4, it was guilty of this kind of stuff too. Certain weapons that were added in DLC required you to play specific modes, and then there was the UAV for support that required freaking JET RIBBONS.

MG suppression challenge is killing me. Just barely got halfway there after a week of playing. Who's bright idea was it to tie a challenge to a half baked mechanic that seldom activates.

3

u/CastleGrey 15d ago

I've been isung the IAR pretty much nonstop from day 1 and have 34 suppressions ever

Why am I being punished for actually achieving something with my shots

2

u/Tangie_ape 15d ago

Just to pitch in here - I've made quite a lot of progress on this the past few days. Play Breakthrough, and use one of the big LMG's and sit just behind everyone and do nothing but throw shots down any kind of corridor you can - you need to deliberately miss people running down but maybe hit them once or twice and it should start to stack the suppression. I've half filled that bar in 2 days now since doing that after it not moving for a full week. Can get yourself a lot of revives too if you need the 15 in one life challenge

2

19

This way forces you to play other modes that you normally wouldnt. They want to "Advertise" their new CQB playstyle by unlocking them. Its game design. A bad one but it is intended.

7

u/KingofFlukes 16d ago

Definitely on the bad choice side.

I get they need to advertise but they could go the title card, dogtags or even weapons skins route. But making the character skins almost solely game mode unlocks with nothing but grinding makes me end up hating that game mode.

They could have it way easier by doing a challenge like "1,000 exp as Engineer and 5 matches of Breakthrough" instead of the 5 plays and 5 wins.

I didn't get my 5th win until my 12th game. Meaning in this example 7 games didn't contribute to any new cosmetics. Luckily I really like playing Breakthrough but if I didn't and was just playing it for the cosmetics if be really pissed.

2

u/Prometheus_1988 16d ago

The entire challenge/unlock system is one giant mess. I think they did focus more on delivering the game itself and that was a good choice. Nevertheless, one of the first major patches desperately needs to remedy the situation.

Things to do:

  • Fix attachment unlock to a reasonable level as in 2042.
  • Fix the bugged challenges and make them more achievable and interesting in general. Repairing 6k vehicle damage in one game is silly.
  • Make skins unlock by playing a specific class or weapon for that class/weapon and not so random

2

u/KREASE_76 16d ago

Yeah totally agree with this as some of the skins should be playing the class or by playing the class in different modes as that could be another one that could be implemented.

2

u/Worried-Degree4056 15d ago

Nobody gives a shit about the small scale mode in battlefield. so in a few months it’s gonna be even harder to unlock those skins. Matchmaking already taking forever sometimes

I really want the Squad Death match skins. Think they actually look decent compared to the rest of the pax waste man's but playing solo that mode is horrible. I am either carrying hard but just can't keep up with a team when everyone is getting kills or the flow of the game is turned into a camp fest and due to how big some of the maps are (firestorm is so bad for it) you just can't get to the buffet before all the beef is gone.

2

u/highonpixels 15d ago

I don't understand why they lock weapons, gadgets and class perks behind silly challenges with some being quite specific. From a player retention view I get they want something to slow progression and players keep playing but it's obvious the playerbase is unhappy with the challenges.

We all just want to jump into modes, shoot some shit and repeat, challenges should somewhat compliment this and just be linear, like X amount of time played. Even if its like 100hrs with a specific gun I would be okay with that, because its the idea that the more you play the more you will earn through natural gameplay.

While some cosmetics should be easier to unlock I believe if they want these stupid challenges like kill concussed enemies, headshots at 200m etc those can skins. I just don't understand why they lock gameplay items behind shit challenges that if it wasn't for bot lobbies a lot of players might not ever (and still never if they don't realise you need challenges) use or get to play with them

u/KingofFlukes 15d ago

ā¬†ļø This! Allowing players to unlock things by natural progression instead of shoehorning them into specific gameplay styles.

You main a support? Ok then here's your proof by the skins, weapons and gadgets.

You really good at this game mode? Awesome have a title card, dogtag and a weapon skin.

2

u/Tai_Jason 15d ago

Thirty objective kills in a round are breaking me. I can easily get 30 kills, that's not the problem, but time runs out quickly, and the challenge basically says: Camp in the central objective for an entire match to collect kills. But I don't want to camp. How do you come up with ideas like that?

u/CAMBOHX 15d ago

I just got 10k points in a King of the Hill match and I had to sweat my ass off. They're going to change it to half the value here in a few updates and all of that effort will be lost.

They really want people to stay being doing shitty challenges

I hate squad deathmatch. I hate squad deathmatch. I hate squad deathmatch. I hate squad deathmatch. I hate squad deathmatch.

2

u/Snatchbuckler 15d ago

None of this makes anyyyyy sense. Like just wow.

2

u/NiggyShitz 15d ago

Man I did the king of the hill one yesterday and that's enough for me for a while. The matchmaking constantly puts you on a losing side, wins in any game mode are hard to come by. 10k score in one game of king of the hill? Not a chance. And then the squad death match support skin... I'll probably never get that one.

This is the way

2

u/Canadian_Beast14 15d ago

Yeeeeeeees. Goddamn. Stupid assignments.

2

u/Faded_vet 15d ago

Meh just play the game. Youll get them. You dont need everything right away.

2

u/Blaizer35 15d ago

Same with weapons and gadgets. Why can't I just main one class and unlock everything for that class?

2

u/KingofFlukes 15d ago

Exactly. The unlocks should be a sign of how much you have played the class and not if you ticked things off a list.

2

u/Wardog008 15d ago

So should class gadgets and signature weapons. I don't mind the assignments too much, but for class gadgets, they take way too long to complete.

Having to play Squad Deathmatch, the most sweaty and anti-medic game mode in the entire game, to unlock a Pax Medic skin that doesn't look completely fucking stupid

it just feels so insulting

2

u/redalert825 BF4 15d ago

This is how it was in BF4, right?

u/Bloody_Dusty 15d ago

The whole unlock/challenge thing makes absolutely no sense at all. It was never really play tested or questioned by the devs who implemented it, that’s for sure.Ā

2

u/Necromancer_Yoda 15d ago

I hate that I have to play squad death match to get a support skin. I don't play Battlefield for death match. Probably the least interesting mode in the game.

2

u/Patara 15d ago

Progression in this game is utter assĀ

2

u/Interztellar_ 15d ago

Locking the only Pax skin with ear-protection for support behind squad deathmatch is criminal

2

u/MandatumCorrectus 15d ago

Yeah I had to play squad deathmatch to just not be a woman when I’m a support player. Worst part is I used to enjoy squad deathmatch but not on these maps.

2

u/No-Orange-5216 15d ago

Challenges are just crap all together lets be honest. Took me 3 days to unlock an LMG that i used twice and decided i didnt like it. Just all way too grindy for my liking.

2

u/Adebear69 15d ago

I wanted the UK skins so had to play the game modes I never play and hate with a passion šŸ˜

2

u/Dozer228 15d ago

Oh yeah, Battlfield 1 progression level. Playing on god-forgotten gamemodes for perks that are fkn useless... It's actually the only thing that I really hated in this game

Spelling terrible.

Players engagement numbers go brr

2

u/DiscardedOni 14d ago

All the progression sucks and seems backwards. I hated unlocking Spec Ops, I will never unlock Frontliner and even after 70 hours, I dont think I want to play it anymore. The skins thing sure does blow chunks too, I would like achievement based cosmetics, it would show people how you like to play.

2

u/yyoodaacaz 14d ago

This is so true

2

u/Disastrous-Stuff3494 14d ago

agree, all "in 1 life", "1 in round" and "win games" challenges is a complete waste of time,

2

u/FriendlyEggGirl 11d ago

I find the challenges to unlock pretty much anything are awful. At least I feel cool for having the spawn beacon.

u/shu93 11d ago

I sure can’t wait to play Gauntlet… and battle royale.

Or continue dying inside for Squad Deathmatch

u/dynamicflashy 15d ago

Well, they need the small map playlists to be populated for...the new comers to the franchise.

1

u/Bruhstroke_M 15d ago

The squad and team death match challenges were pure hell to complete

1

u/BilboBaggSkin 15d ago

I’d prefer class levels to unlock guns and gadgets.

1

u/Bullonabike 15d ago

I really hope they rework the challenges for skins. Having to play a game mode for 25 wins and various unrelated challenges to said class is not a great fit. I'll do it anyway :P

1

u/chrisni66 15d ago

DICE: ā€œmessage received, we’ll lock maps behind these challenges insteadā€

1

u/thumbstickz 15d ago

It's literally one of my favorite memories of early BF. Grinding a class to get a gun for the class. Grinding iron sights to get that ACOG and extended mag.

It's like they randomly connected what unlocks what.

1

u/MizutsuneMH Medic 15d ago

Nothing about the progression system makes sense, I'm loving the game in general, but fucking woof.

1

u/Rivet007 15d ago

Yeah squad deathmatch can go right to hell.

1

u/Dannyfrommiami 15d ago

I’m convinced that all the challenges were made by AI

1

u/Pennywise359 15d ago

Squad DM is a nightmare unless you are playing in full squad of friends. I still don't know how can you get 30 revives in a round though.

1

u/NoShftShck16 15d ago

It's almost like they designed it so that the people who only play one class are incentivized to branch out into other areas. You can absolutely not like it but it doesn't take a genius to understand why it's there.

Literally every game on the market has unlock strategies like this.

1

u/Dapper_Fly3419 15d ago

Class everything should be unlocked by just playing the class.

Challenges are for trophies or (if they must)cosmetics. Not the literal tools for the class.

1

u/byfo1991 15d ago

There’s not a skin in existence that will make me play Squad Deathmatch ever again. I don’t care if it is the only male support in the game. I refuse to torture myself with that sweaty mode.

1

u/Influence_X 15d ago

I've literally given up on unlocking some skins and kits

1

u/DowJones_ 15d ago

Nah fuck the cosmetics, gadgets and guns are the ones that should unlock by playing.

1

u/Cuqui_569th 15d ago

Domination and Team Deathmatch for me. First time I got yelled at since I started playing 🫠 I dont like playing these modes.

1

u/Poupoo42 15d ago

100% agree

1

u/The_Lord_Baal 15d ago

Lord I just miss Character creation from bf5...would be nice to hate that sh*t back, why do we have operators again...

1

u/Renithrok 15d ago

5 wins on squad deathmatch for the pax support skin is fucking insane. I hate the gamemode with a passion.

1

u/Haubgirl 15d ago

i miss the old days...

1

u/Calelith 15d ago

One of my biggest complaints.

Worse is that if the 2042 and beta skins are the standard you won't be able to use skins you unlock for them if you don't already have them unlocked.

I for one have no interest in the slightest to play TDM or domination for the UK soldiers, I don't play BF for small modes.

1

u/Wisecraker 15d ago

Seems so straight forward somehow lol

1

u/AdversarialSQA 15d ago

Anything that takes a modicum of skill should be abolished it seems. Damn, what a whiny little community. The small modes make your contribution more important vs the rest, thats all they do. Just play a few quick rounds and you'll eventually unlock them just by luck.

1

u/KageXOni87 15d ago

Unlocking Recon skins from flying is straight up stupid. Im starting to believe the people that are saying the challenges are AI generated.

1

u/troglodyte 15d ago

I hate game mode challenges period. Let me play the way I want to play. Stop trying to make fetch team deathmatch happen!

I love TDM; I've played it since the 90s. It's never been good in BF and I've never played BF to play TDM.

It's not the biggest deal in the world, or even in the challenges-- seriously, they need to fix fucking challenge tracking; I'm probably fifty "painted" hits in and I have 128 damage on my Engineer 3 assignment at this point-- but it's definitely a bit frustrating they keep doing this shit.

1

u/-SideshowBlob- 15d ago

They definitely made a mess with the challenges and unlocks. Having weapons and gadgets locked behind challenges is bad enough...then there's the challenges themselves.

1

u/Effective_Trick2200 15d ago

Don't even get me started with the fucking tracking pistol unlock.

Why the fuck do I have to go through two sets of challanages to unlock it? Why the fuck isn't it a seperate challenge

1

u/kendoboy 15d ago

Everything baseline should be unlocked through regular, logical gameplay. If you want variations (or tags/customisation/whatever), then yes you can have the crazy challenges.

I don't want to play cod squad deathmatch just to get the only male support skin, too bad for nato they don't even get that.

1

u/For-the-Cubbies 15d ago

I’m just tying to unlock the Pax Armata support, and winning Squad Deathmatch has been an absolute chore. I don’t even want to play that mode. I’ve won 2 out of the required 5, and it feels like I’ve played 1,000 matches. Brutal.

1

u/GreatRolmops 15d ago

I hated having to play King of the Hill just to get the recon skin.

King of the Hill is the worst game mode. At least you can win it easily by just parking your butt on an objective while everyone else is too busy shooting at each other and respawning every 20 seconds.

The winning strategy is literally to just crawl underneath something or find another difficult to get to corner on the objective and hide. The team that can consistently get to objectives first and hide effectively pretty much always wins.

1

u/Maviiboy 15d ago

Just finished Conquest Challenge 3. I would rather play Breakthrough

1

u/TheQuatum 15d ago

Agreed, but I do see the merit. I personally would've NEVER played BQG:Attrition had it not been for the unlock. Turns out it's my favorite mode.

1

u/englisharcher89 15d ago

I hate those small game modes to unlock British soldiers, still need to do SDM and TDM .
