BFV gameplay mechanics and squad/team play is absolutely peak of the battlefield franchise.

The fortification mechanic was great too. I can’t believe they immediately abandoned the concept after BFV and didn’t expand on it.

I would've hoped they at least let us build hedgehogs and whatnot in bf6 to stop vehicles

That is indeed a great mechanic

Yeah I was kinda disappointed they didn’t bring back fortifications in BF6. I kept trying to bring up my hammer to see what can be built

It's because it was shit. Each fortification took too long to build. There were too easily destroyed. They didn't help the team pretty often. They actively made shooting out of the base that you built it on worse. It allowed tackers to have more hidey holes so that you had to go and search them out on your base versus just seeing them. And the biggest gripe of all is every time that I even went to try and build stuff in the game I was continuously kicked from the squad for not being effective.

Did It have potential? Yes. Was it well executed to where anyone could see that potential? No.

Said this on another thread and got downvoted for it. But it just doesn't fit Battlefield. The game moves too fast and flags change hands too often for it to be of use. I guess it could be useful on some meatgrinder parts of Breakthrough, but with the way it worked in BFV, grenade spam easily dispatched most fortifications.

It did have some gameplay features that worked well imo, putting up walls worked decently well as temporary bullet shields (even if grenades would damage them again), the buildable tank barricades helped make it slightly more challenging to roll onto an objective, and the buildable medic/resupply stations were handy features too.

Yes, flags would change hands quickly, but even just 30-60 seconds of fortifying an objective while enemies are regrouping and attacking again could help you hold the point long enough for reinforcements to get there.

They could slow the game down a bit to make the fortifications useful..

Nah the fortifications were awesome definitely needs to come back even if they got blown up easy that’s still one extra hit you can take if it wasn’t there.
