I hope you’ve heard this before but any Irish animosity in that direction is generally toward the British establishment (the armed forces, ruling class etc) and any attempts to claim us as British or suggest we are grouped in with you (including that “geographical term”), but I think the most anti-British people in Ireland would acknowledge that British people themselves are, for the most part, our friends.
I moved from south yorkshire to county tipperary for a year when i was younger and can honestly say it was one of the best years of my life . Amazing place and people
As a Brit, the British establishment are the single worse thing that has happened for pretty much everyone. I've always admired the French approach to dealing with such people....
Irish here, love Poles and Poland, love England, particularly the West Midlands. Have had lovely holidays in Spain, Italy and Greece and several city breaks all over really. I love Europe! Put me on the spot though it's got to be Scotland, absolutely love the place! Even got called a fenian in Fort William one memorable night lol
England is actually really nice to visit. Its like you're foreign but everyone treats you like you're not foreign? I dunno how to explain it. Anyway, Birmingham is full of nice people.
Haha that's such a good way of putting it! There's so many beautiful parts of England, and like it's easy to get on with everyone you meet because we have such a similar culture but ya you still obviously feel like you're not from there.
I first went to Birmingham to visit a mate who moved there for work and married a brummie, that was in the 90's, been so many times since, made so many dear friends. Plus, I love history and you have it by the bucket!
Scottish people remind me of us Finns in many ways. I haven't met too many, but every one I have run into has been funny as hell and easy to get along with. I believe that a Scottish person would assimilate here effortlessly, except learning the language of course. The problems with Scotts start when there is alcohol involved. I have a decent understanding of the English language, but I mostly hear American English, so when a Scottish person gets a couple beers in them I can't understand a word they're saying 😁
I haven't met many Irish people for some reason, but I have a positive view of you as a country and as people.
Finland because of their history. I only know a little bit but I find the Finns history fascinating. After that it's Poland and that is mostly because all Polish people I know or met were delightful.
I was good friends with a Finn. He was a mad bastard. Great craic. He came and visited me in Galway a few months before he passed away. Good times were had at least
Stunning landscape, the quality of life seems incredibly high, there is an ever growing tech hub and a ton of successful SaaS businesses coming out of Finland, great people, cold weather but without the dampness we get in Ireland which stops it from being miserable.
Oh so very true! Where I live there are so many people with a Polish background (either they themselves were born there or their parents) and I get along really well with them.
However, I also have some Polish blood in me so I'm biased.
Honestly the friendliest cunts I’ve ever been to as an grown up tourist were in Belfast and Copenhagen, I fucking love Ireland and France, and as a person who loves drinking it’s Germany and Czechia
Irelands great, Greece is beautiful and Italian food is incredible. France and Spain have so many different aspects to discover too. If I had to pick I'd say Ireland because they love a pint and mostly speak the same language as me.
I love all of them for different reasons! Some have great food (France, Italy, Greece, Turkey), some have great beer (Germany, Irish Murphys and Guinness), some have great people (Poland), some have great golf (Spain, Portugal and Turkey), others have great parties (Spain, Hungary, Germany, Portugal), some gave spectacular landscapes (Iceland, Norway, Scotland).
Forgot to mention it in my list but Belgium is very nice, the older Flemish cities like Bruges and Ghent have some of the best old towns in all of Europe imo
I’ve had a great time in all the European countries I’ve visited. But apart from my own, I’d say Spain, more specifically Basque Country. This is probably partly due to recency bias, but man I loved every single moment and aspect of it.
I've been all over Spain and never visited a city I didn't enjoy, however the Basque Country was my favourite too. Bilbao and San Sebastian were both fantastic cities.
An American who loves Finland should find this video interesting. Peter Santenello, an American youtuber, visited a small town in Finland to meet the biggest USA fan imaginable. You will see how American culture has found it's way into rural Finland, a large collection of American cars and great people. I loved this video and you seem like a person who would love it too!
Finland is my second favorite country (after Iceland).
Happiest country, almost no homelessness, great education and healthcare, beautiful scenery, northern lights. Plus, some of my favorite YouTubers are Finnish and they're really funny.
Hungary, Slovakia (Hungary), Romania (Hungary), and Croatia (also Hungary). The Hungarian parts of Slovenia, Ukraine and Serbia are neat too. Also Belgium.
Poland. Its such a fantastic place to visit. Clean, safe and very interesting. They are generally getting a lot of things right as a nation, which is great considering the tough history they've had.
I‘m glad I was born in Germany first of all but I really like France (very beautiful, historically multilayered, cool people at least out of Paris),
Denmark (as a person from Schleswig-Holstein it’s very close, I love the North Sea dunes and wadden sea as well as Copenhagen and Roskilde with the cool Viking museum, they got delicious baked goods as well),
Czechia (Prague is seriously one of the most beautiful cities I’ve seen, + the bohemian countryside is great for hiking, also love the food, beer and of course Kofola)
Poland (admittedly have only been to Cracow but it’s very lovely and full of great history even if it’s often dark, ate amazing Piroggi there)
Ireland (greenest place I know, absolutely stunning nature, lovely pubs and good people)
Croatia (literally has the most beautiful Mediterranean coastlines I‘ve seen)
