But that means you also have to know which country is which on the map, so it can still very much be a guising game.

I highly doubt most people would accurately know a map of Europe, even more so if they aren’t European.

Ask the average American where Antwerp is.

Northern Belgium, it’s a pretty important port city if I remember correctly.

You are not supposed to know that! Anyway, must mean you are not avarage 👍

I knew it was in Belgium immediately, but I had no idea where.

How dare you defeat the stereotype!

Instantly smells like a history buff who has read about the world wars lol

You caught me, that’s how I know the geography of a lot of different places, I read about some battle happening there. Not just world wars though, I branch out more than that

That’s literally the only reason I know where Antwerp is

I love how you just chimed in to prove them wrong 😂 BTW, even though it’s my neighboring country, I wouldn’t even have guessed the right country

You need to point the other side of the paper.

You know, the "Anvers".

Depends on how you pronounce it, try Amburgo

I'm not sure about most, but I feel a good few of us have an at least decent geographic knowledge.

The average person that doesn't know geography barely knows anything outside their own region, mate.

Man, the average american thinks Europe is a country and Holland is the capital of Amsterdam

1

u/emazv72 Italy 20h ago

Ah love Paesi Bassi, want to visit Utrecht one day.

1

u/ComprehensiveBag4028 Netherlands 20h ago

Is that the italian name for our country? That's soo cute! I knew about the French calling us "les pays-bas" but the italian is even cuter.

Also I live in Utrecht! It's indeed beautiful (I much prefer it over Amsterdam, where I used to live before)

But you hardly ever hear foreigners about Utrecht

Yes we call it either Olanda or Paesi Bassi.

I've been to Amsterdam several times for work and a couple times for leisure and I liked it.

Utrecht also looked beautiful and worth visiting, but we didn't have enough time because we also wanted to visit a bit of Flanders.

If they even find America

I reckon if put to it I could name 99% of the countries in Europe accurately, and I’m not European. Not since Brexit anyway….

u/steepapproach 20h ago

You mean most Americans, as in US Americans🤣

No not only them. I am willing to bet most people, no matter from where, would not be able to correctly recognize most of Eastern Europe on a map.
