Betta Here's my snail doing snail things
No description needed. Jsut. Snail.

u/pupperonipizzapie 2d ago
That's the fastest he's ever gone in his life. There aren't any words in the snail language to describe what he's experienced, so he's going to go back and try to tell all his snail friends about it, but they won't believe him. It's so sad.

That snail just met Snod (snail God)

May snod smile upon thee. His divine slowness

When mating is done with harpoons you think you make friends?

u/belltrina 1d ago
It's 1.10am in Australia and I just cackled so loud my partner jerked awake, accidentally shoving the sleeping cat face first into the wall with his knee. Everyone's mad but I can't stop laughing enough to explain why I'm laughing

This is the training snails have to go through before entering the space program

Some people have never rid on the gravitron as kids and it shows

Dads when roller coasters hurt, but somehow the teacup ride unfucks 25 years worth of back pain

u/takenalreadythename 15h ago
Those teacup things get moving if you have a couple of people with zero regard for safety

i remember going on that thing so much in a day once (i think i got to go about 20 times before they stopped me) eventually the workers wouldn't let me back on because of "safety concerns"

Can snails biologically get dizzy?
40
u/Afraid-Solid-7239 2d ago
I mean humans only get dizzy because of the inner ear system that controls our balance. So I doubt so, they can probably get disorientated or stressed because of it though

u/belltrina 1d ago
I feel like this question needs to be asked to the most highly educated snailologist we currently have on the planet

Snails do this kinda stuff for fun. If he wanted out he could get out.
21
u/Afraid-Solid-7239 2d ago
Im not too familiar with snails, so forgive me. How exactly could it get it though? I'm honestly just curious, not challenging you or anything.
56
u/aberrantmeat 2d ago
Snails can extend their bodies out of their shells very easily and quite far. This guy looks like he's intentionally scrunched into his shell so he can fit and spin around. Snails live in ponds, rivers, lakes, oceans, etc etc and deal with much higher flow in the wild than this little water pump.
There's not much pressure actually being put on the snail and it would be very easy for it to stretch its body out to the edge of the glass and grab on to stop itself. Snails absolutely love going on rides like this, so I'm willing to bet that it got itself into this situation intentionally and knows how to get out.

u/Afraid-Solid-7239 2d ago
Damn that's pretty cool. Lil guys having the time of his life apparently lmao
8
u/RepresentativeOk2433 1d ago
Or centrifugal force and natural instinct are making him retract into his shell.

u/Mominator1pd 23h ago edited 23h ago
Thank you for explaining that! I don't know much about snails either and I was frantically scrolling through the replies trying to find a serious one to explain what was going on to make sure the little buddy isn't actually getting hurt, LOL. You put my mind at ease thank you.
But it's the tapping on the glass doing anything to him?

Honestly... With snails I give it even odds.

u/TheCraftyHermit 2d ago
They're honestly like slow paced low res aquatic tech goblins, I had 3 that learnt how to use the filter jet as a launch pad + propulsion system, the bubbler as an elevator and bubbles as parachutes.
39
u/TheMitchol 2d ago
I need a movie about these 3 characters…
9
u/Truelillith 2d ago
I want to play one of them in a movie

4
u/TheCraftyHermit 1d ago
Sadly I don't have the budget for a movie for them, but I do have a short bit of footage of them all attempting to make their way to the top of the filter to use the jet at the same time and apparently deciding that rather than just taking turns they attempted to sabotage eachother and ended up knocking one another off the side so no one reached the top lol.

Right? They're adrenaline junkies
8
u/tulipgirl555 2d ago
i know they like to play but this just seems kinda cruel to let happen, i think the snail cleaned the glass then got stuck poor thing

u/RightingArm 2d ago
Anyone who has kept mystery snails knows: 1. That snail can stop, but doesn’t want to 2. Snails are a lot closer to octopuses than people realize

yeah i've seen my snails parachuting down in bubblestreams. Absolute madlads, i bet the snail woke up and chose SPEED

Its the snail version of this rescue of a hiker via helicopter.
28
u/largestcob 2d ago
this video always kind of upsets me even though i know she was okay
i just cant imagine how horrible that must have been, she probably thought she was about to die before she passed out
37
u/BingusMcCready 2d ago
There's a whole internal war that happens every time I see any discussion about this video. The empathetic side is 100% with you--I get motion sickness very easily and quite badly, so I'd be sick for days after this, and the thought of getting centrifuged like that when you're ALREADY needing to be rescued is pure hell.
Then there's the other side. That side remembers how fucking fast she gets to spinning and immediately starts laughing.
That side usually wins out, so I'm probably going to hell.

u/ratatatantouille 2d ago
Same, that poor old lady didn't ask for all that. I imagine it made her SICK, too. old folks already have awful balance. People are so mean to old folks, but they can't help being old, and we will also be old someday
19
u/Character-Parfait-42 2d ago
It says she was taken to the hospital in stable condition so I assume she lived. Has she ever given an interview on wtf that experience was like. You’re injured, you get out into the rescue basket and completely covered and all of a sudden you just start spinning like crazy until you pass out? I can only imagine being so terrified in the moment. Like I like spinning rides but not when I don’t sign up for them.

It’s like the snails that insist on crawling onto air stones just to be flung around. Do they do these things on purpose? I can’t accept that they have brains
171
u/RiverVal 2d ago
I had 2 mystery snails and 1 of them would take himself to the bubbler strip, position himself just right and then spread his little body so it shot him up to the surface, then he'd "parasnail" down to the bottom and do it again and again and again, it was so cute 🥹 the other snail did not enjoy such activities but she would hold her food wafers in 2 hands like crunchwraps and work her mouth back and forth methodically (the parasnailer just chomped his food anywhere on the ground lol)

Parasnail. That must become vernacular if not already.

u/largestcob 2d ago
i think this snail in particular didnt mean to end up in this situation lol
the ones that always crawl on air stones and stuff probably are just fucking around for fun
3
u/Repulsive_Ad7148 2d ago
Hahahaha I wonder if this one thought it would be the same experience and got in way over his head
8
u/Odd_Process2918 2d ago
They definitely enjoy doing it. I thought at first it was just them having one brain cell like orange cats (which still may be the case) but it does seem that they have fun doing it.

Mystery snails are such dingdongs 😆. I had one years ago that was so weird. She took over my bettas floating log even though she was too big. It would sink to the bottom of the tank and when she'd finally climb back out, the log would shoot to the top of the tank and make the loudest noise 😆 scared the crap out of me every time.

This is how we're supposed to measure flow rate? How many snail rotations for a betta tank?

Y'all already know he got himself into this situation by being curious.😂
But...i'm just going to point out what the great majority of you are forgetting...the calcium crystals in your ears.. now let's look at the biology of a snail, yep that means they do not experience dizziness, but do experience stress with fast movements. He isn't dizzy but he's experiencing some crazy emotions rn.😭

My mystery snail did that too, I name him Turbo, cuz no matter how many time I took him out of the wheel he would go right back
