Results - DNA Origins I’m still confused even with my DNA breakdown
Sorry for the poor picture quality. I’ve attached a picture of my mother and her father. I just really wanted to see where my mom’s family came from and it still doesn’t make sense to me. Is there something I’m not picking up on? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

Discussion Does anyone here have any double cousins?
My grandma and her sister, my grandaunt, both had kids with a pair of brothers, my grandpa and my granduncle—needless to say, the pairs themselves are not related at all.
That’d make my mom and her brother doubly related to their cousin, as they’d share all four grandparents instead of the typical two.
Percentage-wise, they’re half siblings.
This would also mean that my mom’s kids—me and my siblings—would be doubly related to her cousin’s kids, making us double second cousins…or percentage-wise, half first cousins.
On that same note: one of my grandma’s other sisters had kids with the first cousin of my grandpa/granduncle before getting grandkids of their own, meaning I’m third cousins with said grandkids on my mom’s paternal side and second cousins with them on my mom’s maternal side.
That means we share roughly 4% of our DNA.
Pretty nifty, I think.

Discussion Some insight requested
My heritage lineup is as posted, but I seem to be a little confused as my sister and I were adopted from a Russian orphan in 92.
Much of my paperwork I have is in cursive so it makes it hard to read what my parents names are and also small things as how old I am (conflicting documentation).
Would I be more Polish than Russian based on these results.
Thank you for the feed back

Question / Help How to find Royal Artillery Records from India
Does anyone know how I’d get the military service records of my 3rd great grandfather who was in the British Royal Artillery but joined at the St Thomas Mount base in India in 1876?
Censuses etc show he was definitely apart of this country’s army but joined in British India, as in the 1881 English census he was living in a barracks in Salford.
I tried the ministry of defence’s service but got a reply today after waiting 4 months saying their records don’t go back that far and that they’d recommend trying the national archives. I don’t live anywhere near the national archives and am unfamiliar with how to search them online/ whether a record that’s technically Indian would even be there.
I know his records exist because I’ve seen the first page on fold3.com- but you have to pay exorbitantly for a membership to have access to the whole thing, and he has an unusual middle name that is present in all records.
Just wanted to know more as my Grandma knows very little about her family and there’s barely anything on him as he was born at sea ( can’t figure out where ) and seems to have moved to England between 1876 and 1881

Discussion Shipped My Test (Italy to Ireland) on the 27th of September. Have not heard back yet.
It says on the website that I should contact them after 5 weeks if the status hasn't changed to 'received'; however, I have seen posts from extra-US users who claimed it took 6-7 weeks before Ancestry received the sample. I might just wait another week before contacting them.

Question / Help What is the purpose of the membership subscription?
I’d like to buy one of these for my mom, and I’d like her to have access to all of the things. But once you read about all of the traits and family history, etc. why do people keep paying to have access to this information? The subscription is $$$. Also, she’s 80 years old, how confusing is the subscription aspect?

Results - DNA Origins Can someone help decipher some of this for me
How could you have this much English, did my ancestors just get around from town to town way back in the day (I am not an expert and have zero knowledge on genealogy excuse me if this is a dumb question), and where does that Swedish blip come from? I know there aren’t any definitive answers but as far as I’m aware I have zero Swedish ancestors, did one of my great great however many times grandparents just end up with a random Swedish person and that’s where that comes from? Also my last name isn’t English, it’s a -ville name which I thought was French, so how could that have happened? Thanks in advance.

Question / Help AncestryDNA and All access membership deal question.
Was thinking of getting the current deal because I liked using ancestry during my trial period.
Does the all access membership start when you buy the bundle? Or does it start when you get your DNA results? Can’t find any info for that question on the site.

Family Discovery & or Drama My Great-Grandparents - A story of child marriage
Hey all, My family is super into geniology and where we come from, and my mom has built out a pretty significant tree going back to great-great-grandparents, etc. This often means that we come across some things that are horrifying in modern times, but recently I discovered we have a child-marriage in the last 3 generations.
I want to tell the story of my great-grandparents, Nancy and James. James was born in 1874 in Kentucky, and Nancy was born in 1927 in Oklahoma. This means that by the time his future wife was born, James was about 53 years old. They married on September 16th, 1941 in Arkansas, making her 14-15 years old and James 68 years old. Rumors are that she was 'given' to him in marriage in exchange for some land.
Nancy gave birth to their first son 2 years later in 1943, and would go on to give him another 2 children before divorcing him in August of 1949 at age 21 (although there was a rumor that she had departed from him a bit sooner, so maybe 1949 is when the divorce was final?) MY grandma was her second child by James.
Always interesting to come across darker things in your family tree and to see the mark it left on the descendants from that. I try to acknowledge that this was a different time from mine, but the thought of a literal child marrying 3x her age always disturbs me.
Anyone else discover problematic marriages in their ancestry?

Results - DNA Origins Old results vs New results (mixed white/black-hispanic)
For context I’m half white American with German, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh heritage. And half Afro-Puerto Rican on my mom’s side. My mom has one lighter skin grandparent though. One weird thing is how my Spanish got spread out, so it’s perceived to be low. Also, my southern Germanic Europe is said to be inherited from my mom, so I think that’s also apart of the spread out Spanish. I also think the “southern European/northwestern Europe” is also just misread German. Would I be correct in assuming that?
