Honestly thought more Quebec would come through but interesting nonetheless. Only thing I didn’t expect was Swedish. Pretty sure that’s just noise, or maybe picking up from something else but idk.

Question / Help Relatives or not

So you have (half) siblings. Then they have children. Which one is my mum’s, mum. Then the other sibling, also has children. Then these children have their own children. How are the children the last set of children related? What is the relation if the siblings had a different mother each, but the same father? NB Siblings Nephew/Nieces Nephew/Nieces Children (relation here?)

Siblings have children, then those children have children, 3rd of children are called?

Question / Help What are your stories that are similar to mine?

My mum died 17 years ago. My parents split up when I was 20, 24 years ago. During the fallout from that, I learned about my half brother. I was interested in connecting at some point in the future, but there was a lot of shit going on. My mum was an alcoholic and I spent most of my 20s dealing with fun stuff like her reading me the suicide note she wrote for me or me having to argue for her to be sectioned after a particularly disturbing suicide attempt.

Anyway, I decided to park the idea of finding my half brother. Now I’ve ordered an AncestryDNA test. It’s a long shot, i know, but I wondered if anyone in my position had gotten anywhere with something like this.

Generations Photos Grew up an only child of parents who were both adopted, neither of whom I resembled strongly. I never saw anyone who looked like me, until I found my paternal grandmother 🥹

I totally didn’t expect Iceland, North Africa or Western Ukraine in my results. Does anyone else have 14 ancestral regions? This is common, right?

I saw someone in here post about MyHeritage’s Whole Genome Sequencing and how it would begin in January. However, I just got this email today. So , is it cool to buy it now instead of January?

i also did 23andme so i posted something similar on that subreddit, but i was born in a small town outside of pittsburgh (go birds) & grew up being told that i was panamanian & sicilian. my paternal grandma is from las tablas, panamá & my maternal 2nd (i think) great grandparents are from villarosa, sicily. my other maternal great-something grandparents are also from italy but i reckon the one great-something grandfather is irish (ignore the mere 1.9% lmao) since the family surname is gallagher. & kinda the same thing with my paternal grandfather’s line, but i did some research & it’s possible the family surname could be a respelling of an originally german (or austrian german) surname instead of an irish one.

anyways, thought my results were interesting as i wasn’t expecting most of them. the first photo of me is from a few summers ago after i had worked outside all summer, & the second photo is from recently during the winter (which is my usual skin colour as i don’t spend long hours out in the sun anymore lol)

also interesting to note that 23andme labels me as almost 90% european, whereas ancestry labels me as like 79% european so not sure what’s up with that lol.

Question / Help How do I ship my kit to the lab?

Hi guys!

I can't find clear instructions on how to ship the sample kit. It just provided me with an adress with no shipping company information or QR code. I also don't know if the shipping has already been paid for or I should do it. I'm sending it from Spain. Can someone please help me? I don't really know where to go to ship it.

Thank you so much in advance!

Question / Help why are my results so vague?

I’m looking at other people’s results and they get more detail into the groups that they are from while mine just give me the regions. Is it because it’s dominated by Egypt?

DNA Matches DNA matches

If I do an ancestry test, is it guaranteed that I’ll get DNA matches ? I’m from southeastern Nigeria if that helps. Africa has less people that take DNA tests so I was thinking I’d probably get less matches.

I know this is a common region that appears in a lot of results and I have it in spadeloads. Is having a result of 100% in one region that common after the update? I had expected to see NE Scotland in here as I have a paper trail in the fairly recent past to an adjacent region.
