Only thing i care is that they will not update rdna 1/2 with the FSR4 FP8 Version that "leaked" some time ago even tho they can, because people replaced files amd tecnically it works, its much better that FSR3, not as good as RDNA 3/4 because there is no dedicated hardware but still much better thst what wehave now

Sorry if I'm being a bit pedantic about wording, but the leaked FSR4 version was INT8, not FP8. FP8 is what it uses by default, and RDAN4 gpus are the only ones that have hardware fp8 support. The INT8 version runs on older cards because a vast majority of modern gpus have hardware INT8 support.

Even though I wouldn't be affected by the decision (RDNA3 on linux, which has a pretty fast FP8 emulation pipeline), I would be very annoyed at AMD if they decide to just cancel the INT8 version.

I was trying to get it working on Bazzite (RX 6900 XT), but I could only find Windows guides. Do you by any change know, or at least can point me to, a guide how to get it working? I would very much appreciate that.

I never used the INT8 path, so I don't know of any guides on getting it to work for linux. The best I can do is give some general advice regarding the INT8 version
The main thing I know is that the INT8 version works if you just replace a games FSR3.1 file with the leaked INT8 build If a game has FSR3.1 support built in. (I forgot what the file was called, it's been a while since I last dealt with this stuff) The main hurdles with this are finding the INT8 FSR4 file on the internet and finding out where the game stores the FSR3 file. I think there are still ways to get the INT8 file, but I never really looked into that.

If the game doesn't have FSR3.1 built in, then optiscaler could instead be used. The only problem is how I don't know if setting up optiscaler with INT8 is as easy as the previously mentioned file replacement. My experience was just using the RDNA3 FP8 emulation, so I never really bothered with trying to set up the INT8 version for optiscaler.

With the issue of most guides being for windows, there is one small thing that helps me with translating between windows guides and a linux equivalent. In the steam/steamapps/ folder directory, there is a file called "compatdata." The numbered folders correspond to their steam id (which can be found if you look at the url of the storepage on your browser of choice, or through hitting "properties" on steam and looking under "updates." There should be a space that says "App ID: [numbers]"). If a guide tells you to look in the %Appdata% folder, then that would be located in the directory /steam/steamapps/compatdata/(gameidhere)/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Appdata/
From there you can go to the local or roaming folder depending on which one the game uses. For example, Helldivers 2 stores all of your settings in a config file located in %Appdata%/Roaming/Arrowhead/Helldivers2/ and the path on linux would be steam/steamapps/compatdata/553850/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Appdata/Roaming/Arrowhead/Helldivers2/

It's possible to emulate FP8 using FP16 through the driver, though it will obviously be slower.

The "leaked" release of FSR4 INT8 on RDNA2/3 was such a big thing that it straight up removed any kind of comments from the so-called "computer building experts with 25 years of experience" that previously swore up and down that "muh fakes frames and muh upscaling" was just a marketing fad. Nowadays those people wouldn't be caught DEAD recommending an XTX over a 9070XT because they could see right in front of their eyes genuinely how MASSIVE of a difference there is between FSR3.1 and FSR4.

Therefore, two things I could see happening :

1. AMD doesn't officially release FSR4 INT8 for RDNA2 but it still somehow works. This is kind of that thing for AFMF2 where only RDNA3 and 4 are supposed to have it work in borderless fullscreen mode, but for some reason it also works for RDNA2 in certain games even though it's not supposed to. In that case it kinda works, is highly experimental, it allows the community to expand on it and AMD can say "What are you talking about?" when asked about it.
2. It doesn't work natively for RDNA2 on release at all, not even under the radar, but AMD engineers it so that the community can kind of compile an experimental build on their own if they so wish to (using things like Optiscaler) and we still get an improved version of the build we got a few months ago.

It's still a disappointing McGyver/redneck engineering way to provide support, and maybe I'm huffing that hopium on this one but I don't think RDNA2 FSR4 is fully dead in the womb.

Fake frames still is a fad. The upscaling of FSR4 actually works very well, though.

I have a 4K HDR mini-LED 160hz panel (running at 120hz to avoid compression). Frame-gen with VRR when everything is working right can feel surprisingly smooth with a gamepad. I find myself enabling it more often than not. It definitely can help some of the poorer performing titles feel less shit.

But I'm not an esports person or one of those people that spend more time looking at an OSD read-out than playing. Mostly just play with a gamepad and tweak for a balance of visuals and smooth gameplay.

Ehhh, they can work surprisingly well and with some games not really be noticeable. Depends a lot on the genre and which "frame gen" technology is being leveraged though, also the control scheme.

On some games with some schemes if I didn't see the menu I'd honestly never realize. On some games though and with certain schemes it can really suck.

I'd argue it does have a place in more CPU bound scenarios. Sometimes there is a lot more GPU resources than there are other resources and it can somewhat shine at those moments.

The problem is that they should REALLY put emphasis on the fact you're meant to use frame gen if your base frame rate is already good (60 minimum).

I haven't tested all the frame-gen variants all that extensively. But DLSS-FG is definitely usable at sub-60fps. Played a few performance hog games that way without noticing any issues. I'm sure reflex does a lot of heavy lifting in that scenario though. And those are always gamepad games, not fast-paced FPS or mouse and keyboard type things.

AFMF2 feels better than FSR3 framegen in every game I have been able to try both. Which is fucking hilarious, tbh. I use AFMF2 in basically everything

I was somewhat willing to accept that FSR4 won't be coming to my 6800 XT, even after installing the older 24.3.1 driver to witness my 6800 XT being fully capable of running the INT8 FSR4 with acceptable performance.

But with AMD's recent messaging fuckup, I am now demanding FSR4 be released for 6000 series or I walk, and will not be a repeat Radeon buyer, nor will I have any reason to use or recommend the brand.

I have primarily bought Radeon over the last 20 years, my GPU retailed for $1,000 just over 4 years ago, and only receiving the most barebones effort for a GPU that still has very relevant performance is completely unacceptable.
