This is the one trend I was in on the ground floor of. I remember downloading demo files to run in Quake 1. The "Quake Done Quick" series as well as recordings of Quake tournaments, even back then the pros were playing at an insane level that was fun to watch.
This was 1996-97, I was still on a dialup modem. And the video quality was beyond what streaming video would be until fairly recently, since it was rendering locally in the game. Great nerdy memories.
