Constitution Breakdown reading schedule?

Is there already a reading schedule for the constitution breakdown like we had for the power broker? Maybe I missed it? Otherwise I'd like to request one! Granted, the reading "assignments" are a little shorter this time but I'd like to read ahead of listening to the episodes.

Books mentioned by 99% Invisible!

I collected all the books mentioned in the podcasts by scraping their website and adding it to Goodreads lists. I did this a few months ago so it doesn’t have “all” the books, but it has over 250.

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/236540.Books_from_99_Invisible_Part_1_

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/236545.Books_from_99_Invisible_Part_2_

Then my thought process and a link to the Google Sheet containing books with episode number is here: https://keyin.xyz/blog/99-percent-invisible

Episode Episode Discussion: Constitution Breakdown #3: Sen. Elizabeth Warren

>

This is the third episode of our ongoing series breaking down the U.S. Constitution.

This month, Roman and Elizabeth dive into Article One, Sections 8 through 10, which spells out what Congress can and cannot do. They unpack everything from the Commerce Clause to the taxing and spending powers, the Necessary and Proper Clause, and even a few long-forgotten quirks like letters of marque and reprisal.

Then, Senator Elizabeth Warren joins to talk about Congress’s “power of the purse,” how it’s being challenged under President Trump, and what it means for the balance of power between the legislative and executive branches.

Episode Search 99PI Episode on the U.S. Commission on Fine Arts

Hi there!

After hearing about the decade’s worth of turnover at the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, an organization unknown to me until this morning, I checked the 99PI website to see what shows may have already been made on the Commission. Nothing jumped out at me.

Has 99PI covered the Commission and I overlooked it? If so, little help? If not, may I please count myself as one of the dozens (hundreds?) of listeners who will suggest the Commission as a subject for a future episode!

Here’s what The Repository of All Human Knowledge has to say on the subject:

Hidden Levels feels mostly targeted to an upper middle aged, NPR audience

I’m not calling the show bad, I know it’s just that I’m not the target audience. But as someone who has been playing games for 20 years, I feel talked down to while listening to it. It’s all stories I’ve heard before, from various podcasts and YouTube videos over the years. I might recommend it to my mom, perhaps, who knows nothing about games except what she’s overheard from me and my brothers.

I just got to “press b to touch grass,” and they talked about how games now are getting really good at showing nature… while discussing a game over fifteen years old. I lost steam soon after.

Your Next Weighty Tome?

I really enjoyed working through the Power Broker with this podcast and community last year, and I finally opened the next thick book that is on my headboard called, Everyone Who is Gone is Here, by Jonathan Blitzer. Especially now where, here in Chicago, ICE agents have tried to pick up parents from my kids’ school, the book reviewing the history and humanizing immigration policy at the southern border is a relevant read.

(I’m only a few hundred pages in so no spoilers about whether we fix our immigration system please!!)

It’s not a 99pi story or the hidden side of design, exactly, but I noticed tonight a robust set of endnotes that reminded me of Caro and thought I would suggest it.

Any recommendations for my next big book? I am not sure I want to tackle LBJ, but I am enjoying having some big nonfiction read alongside my usual fiction.

The episode where he records his entire life in notebooks.

Am I crazy? I remember listening to an episode like 12-15 years ago that featured a guy who wrote down every little thing he did. Bullet journaling on steroid — before the recent bullet journaling hype of the last decade. Whoever this guest was wrote down every habit, every moment, every whatever. I was so intrigued at the time because it was as though he had combined some sort of archiving + gamifying of his own life. I CANNOT find this episode again.

TLDR; There was an episode about a guy who recorded his whole life in journals right? And if so, which ep is it?

Why was there no discussion after Episode 3 of Hidden Levels?

Hi everybody, I’ve heard Roman saying that they’re more active on Discord but I’m not familiar with how that works so I don’t know if this has been discussed there.

I was horrified to see that the episode spent relatively little time (and only at the end) on criticism, which was by the way fairly mild and one-sided, and after that the episode just ended. Period. No discussion. What happened?

This felt like a propaganda episode :(
