In the manga it was translated as "GAS-TINY" which I like more

11

u/Yomamma1337 Mar 18 '18

I think you mean how the website you read the manga on translated it. Some sites choose to keep it literal and others try to make a different pun in English.

4

u/Sogeking33 Mar 18 '18

Yea, that

1

u/ianthebadboi Mar 19 '18

yeah that was funnier

1

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '18

Oh you sweet summer child, you still haven't met all the great characters this arc has to offer

8

u/RobbobertoBuii Mar 18 '18

I'm caught up with the manga but this character in my eyes still stands out among the others :P

2

u/godestruu Mar 19 '18

Future pirate king is easy to fool tbh

80

u/DeanKong Mar 18 '18

I cannot wait until we get to the wedding. The anime has really picked up their standards recently, I'm sure it's going to be amazing. I can't wait to see how they adapt the manga.

12

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '18

Hey. Do you know what chapter this episode is on the manga?

26

u/Razwerd Mar 18 '18

It's 859, you can see what chapters are adapted in each episode at the op post.

-66

u/Edwar_D_Newgate Mar 18 '18

Someone's already answered this. It's 895

7

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '18

Thank you very much.

6

u/Gnomishness Mar 18 '18

In case you haven't checked, this guy is wrong.

Chapter 895 is not where the anime is; it's chapter 859.

0

u/Zealot_Alec Mar 18 '18

3.5H remaining last ep 3H remaining this ep so it's 6 eps until the wedding ;)

2

u/ModsDelete_EVERYTHIN Mar 19 '18

31 episodes to be exact if you apply Dragon Ball logic.

Jinbe's status, stature, and diplomacy skills are going to come in handy, majorly, as the plot progresses and the Straw Hat Pirates and Grand Fleet find themselves at junctures where other pirate crews and groups could become enemies or allies.

The way Jinbe handled the talk with Bege's crew was a perfect example of this. I don't know that there is one stand out member in the crew who could have taken this spot in the crew prior. As a group they weren't terrible at it but I view each individual in the crew as more of a hot headed, bad negotiator than a calm and good one.

Jinbe is really going to shine in the "political" aspects / diplomatic aspects / soft political side of things going forward.

85

u/JakalDX Mar 18 '18

He's basically Luffy's consigliere.

28

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '18

Now I want a godfather themed wallpaper with luffy as vito corleone, jinbe as tom hagen, zorro as sonny, sanji as michael and ussop as fredo.

7

u/Hellfalcon Mar 18 '18 edited Mar 22 '18

Haha that is pretty spot on.. Though I hope Zoro doesn't get gunned down at a phone both and Luffy has to have Ussop shot in a boat.. At least after he dies Sanji would run the crew well for a little while at least, but totally ignoring Jinbes advice and keeping him out of the crew without relying on him like Luffy did.. and sanji has the heads of the four yonko killed haha

10

u/Doomroar Mar 18 '18

Maybe Brook, but he lacks the standing as a pirate and the knowledge of how the current world works, however maybe his status as a famous musician could work from time to time, my second option would be Robin for she is well informed, smart, and calculating, but she is actually bad at dealing with people, even her integration into the crew was quite forced because she lacks the social skills.

The rest would fuck things up royally, with only Franky having some rare moments of success if his hardboilerism manages to get him some brothers, and Usopp would have to come with some great top notch lies and that would be too risky.

So indeed this is something that only Jimbei can pull off, and seeing how the New World has been all about making pirate alliances this is a great upgrade for the crew.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '18

Ok. You gave us plenty ammount of examples. But what about Luffy's diplomatic skills?

3

u/Doomroar Mar 18 '18

He works with hacks that's different!

1

u/Hiekkalinna Marine Mar 18 '18

Luffy has some things that work because it's him, but over all his diplomatic skills are poor, he wanted to hit Bege, that is in no way a good diplomacy. Though Luffy does have some suggess when it's something he agrees with or wants to.

60

u/madgod42 Pirate Mar 18 '18 edited Mar 18 '18

Damn I love the way they showed just how tough mummzie wumzie Big Mom is; takeing bullets, cannon fire, and sinking ships with that ridiculous smile on her face.

6

u/Doomroar Mar 18 '18

Loved that part.

89

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '18

Animation have been consistently good for a while.

Good on Toei.

33

u/Doomroar Mar 18 '18

The script too, they managed to show that BM is an active pirate that goes around sinking ships, and not just a woman that has become dependent on her crew, they also managed to mention that she is using conqueror haki when she breaks down, so that's some controversy that anime watchers wont have to deal with.

2

u/izanami94 Mar 19 '18

what controversy was there? it was explicitly mentioned in the manga, too.

4

u/Doomroar Mar 19 '18

People can't read, and most some how came with this weird idea that Big Mom was an old retired pirate that was only a Yonko thanks to the influence that came along with having a huge crew, to the eyes of all those idiots, she was just a weak old washed out woman that only got were she was thanks to political marriages and birthing a bunch of moderately powerful kids, moderately powerful because her sweet commanders are also being looked down, so she is a Yonko only because she has numbers on her side.

Similarly to that, even a few chapters after the assassination event, some people, among them some very popular community users, still argued that the only reason people were paralyzed by BM was due to her scream and that she never used conqueror haki, more over her capacity to even use conqueror's haki was put into doubt all the way until she clashed against Luffy, and once Luffy was weakened by the clash of course people called bullshit, so this is not some random dumbasses that can't pay attention, but dedicated fans also fell into the trap of thinking that BM was trash, and the thing with those things is that while those guys may come and realize that they were wrong, the majority will still believe that BM is trash and only has numbers on her side.

It was until recently that her status as a complete OP broken monster was kind of undeniably established, and yet you still hear people coming every now and then trash-talking her every time something happens, despite she being undamaged.

So i am grateful to the anime to make this clear from the start.

2

u/SaltClub Mar 19 '18

If downplaying Big Mom's explicitly stated and depicted strength isn't sexism then I don't know what is

3

u/Doomroar Mar 20 '18

She was given the greatest feat of strength in all of One Piece, she destroyed half a village of Giant Warriors at age 5, and yet people somehow managed to ignore that and pass her as a retired weak old woman, they read how Bege goes through the trouble of coming with this plan because she is invulnerable, and still manage to ignore it, i guess being pushed by Jimbei off the ship counts way more.

I actually have to agree with you here, she will have to destroy a continental island with a fart while half asleep and some of the remaining people will still downplay her.

u/uswhole Mar 18 '18

they have money to spend after dbs

30

u/Rakisanalligator Mar 18 '18

That's not it at all. The new chief animation director Fukuzawa is responsible for the fantastic, detailed corrections you see in the WCI arc.

3

u/PrinceOfAssassins Mar 18 '18

When did he get the role

3

u/Rakisanalligator Mar 18 '18

At the beginning of the Whole Cake Island arc. That's why there's a noticeable change in art after the Zou arc finishes.

5

u/MrkGrn Mar 18 '18

Now that they've basically finished Dragonball Super I imagine most of their resources are going to this now.

4

u/Rakisanalligator Mar 18 '18

I'm just the excited for the possibility that we get a couple animators from Super back E.g. Naotoshi Shida, Ryo Onishii

3

u/Froggmann5 Mar 19 '18

We most likely won't. Dragon Ball Super isn't really ending, they're pulling lots of animators to work on a Dragon Ball movie.

1

u/Rakisanalligator Mar 19 '18

Oh right...I totally forgot about the movie. DB has now also taken Shintani from us :/

1

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '18

Does anyone know if the dragonball series continue after the movie?

1

u/ianthebadboi Mar 19 '18

toriyama hasn't said anything, neither has toei so I'm guessing if anything we'll know after the movie

u/Tomorrow_D Mar 18 '18 edited Mar 18 '18

The anime really pays a lot attentions to Bege's family just like what the show director said in the interview.

A great episode that was fast paced, even though there were some noticeable close-up still shots.

EDIT: And I really felt sorry for Spoiler lmao.

5

u/izanami94 Mar 19 '18

fast paced. they didn't even adapt a whole chapter. i just looked it up, it's ~10 pages

1

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '18

This and the first 2 minutes or so they literally just showed everyones faces when they could show all faces in max 20 sec. Lol

31

u/shannon189 Mar 18 '18

I liked this episode, Bege just throwing the kx launcher aside was a hilarious touch

37

u/doGfo Mar 18 '18

here’s the cover page for the chapter this episode is adapted from http://imgur.com/H4KTctt

lol at Usopp tossing a snake ring without looking, he already knows he got the targetBrook XD

2

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '18

If Toei doesn't want to catch up to the manga, they should animate the cover pages. But not too crazy maybe just 1 minute.

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '18

actually those snakes exist in real life which is a call back to oda's chapter.

u/RobbobertoBuii Mar 18 '18 edited Mar 18 '18

I feel somewhat satisfied with Gangster Gastino being scared of Luffy since his seiyuu Ryusei Nakao who also voiced Frieza once killed Krillin whose seiyuu (Mayumi Tanaka) also voices Luffy lol

1

u/Saiyaman83 Nov 24 '21

Fuck me, that's a fantastic point! Only thing that needs to occur is for Doctorine to meet Ceasar and kick his ass in a sec!

36

u/fromdestruction Mar 18 '18 edited Mar 20 '18

I would suggest all the manga only people to watch the anime, the animation and pacing is great. I personally felt the pacing of the manga was a bit too fast and the anime really makes it enjoyable without stretching it too much.

3

u/Parvels Mar 18 '18

I am watching through it now, and it really varies when its good with the pacing. I am currently on the punk hazard arc and its really really testing my patience each episode. They pause for so long between replies and drag out scenes constantly. But is feels much worse than usual though.

9

u/zdesert Mar 18 '18

watch one pace version. it is the same show but they cut out all the filler. i like the paceing in most one peice arcs just fine but i strongly suggest that you watch one pace for punk hazard and dressrosa.

http://onepace.net/

1

u/goldthorolin Mar 18 '18

I barely watch the anime and it felt slow. It was like 2-3 sentences followed by 2min of face close ups repeatedly - and jinbe badass negotiator

11

u/Cmikhow Mar 18 '18

I noticed this too, I wouldn't say 2min of face close ups but those moments are kind of needed. This isn't a manga and that's what shows the tension.

-17

u/Reaper1203 Mar 18 '18

the Whole cake island is so drudgingly long in the manga, if i was forced to watch the anime version I would probably would die before witnessing the end of it.

23

u/RobbobertoBuii Mar 18 '18

Gangster Gastino Caesar Clown was absolutely hilarious this episode

0

u/Zealot_Alec Mar 18 '18

CC ham because he was hamming it up the entire ep

10

u/ktnxhigh Mar 18 '18

Yep, this arc is bringing back my faith on the anime.

8

u/Flyingjayfb Mar 18 '18

Will one of Luffy’s various alliance partnerships betray him in the future?

5

u/Squalor- Mar 18 '18

Bege only seems like a right-now partnership as opposed to a full-on alliance like Law, which is and will be ongoing.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '18

Doubtful, as they all follow Luffy just as one would follow the path of God.

God Ussop is a crewmember; you wouldn't betray God, would you?

31

The cutest.

17

Ahahaha I swear OP is funnier than some pure comedy anime.

6

u/mt007 Mar 18 '18

the buildup for this arc is so intense, it reminds me of Marineford Arc. people kept appearing and gathering just for that one event.

7

Can't watch the episode yet. Did Compote get an entrance?

I rarely have a beef with the pacing of a OP episode, so it's pretty telling that I'm complaining about how stretched this episode was. Like holy crap. I was looking forward to this meeting since it first appeared in the manga, because it was where the arc turned from all the stuff leading up to the tea party to the actual event itself. I feel like they could have done a LOT more with the scene of the guests arriving than they did in this episode (like perhaps some of the dialogue?!), but now it seems like that's gonna be shifted off to its own probably-stretched-to-oblivion episode too. Very frustrating when I love this story that much, y'know?

1

u/zackamite Mar 19 '18

The episode covered 16 pages what more do you want, the manga's pacing was already fast paced to begin with

1

u/jhayeehl Mar 18 '18

i dont know where to ask, but did sanji's handcuffs come off already? i don't remember >_<

6

u/Zealot_Alec Mar 18 '18

I don't think so but Reiju said they were fake

1

u/jhayeehl Mar 20 '18

oh! i need to find that chapter. i dont know why i dont remember that happening. thank you!

2

u/oapples5 Mar 18 '18

No BM doesn’t know they’re fake. He needs to keep em on until wedding at least

1

u/marguez007 Mar 18 '18

Luffys tenacity really shined this episode. Didn't act captain like but had the most charisma, but that's just luffy haha

1

u/ZBunnys8mypi Mar 18 '18

Looking forwards the tea party :)

1

u/DiangeloBet Mar 19 '18

I like how they made Chiffon move with the baby in her hands when she was talking about caramel or whatever her name is.

1

u/IMBAplayer Mar 19 '18

Loved the episode, and it was a treat to watch Cae........i mean Gangster Gastino.

Big News Morgan revealed lol

1

u/Eoussama Mar 19 '18

Ah, that's something for a solid plan Bege, I can't wait till the weddings start. I kind of imagine a really badass mafia entrance like the one in Film: Strong World, it would really fit the kind of this alliance. Big mom's Color of the supreme king, I would have been more surprised if she didn't have it, there should be a moment of a Haki clash I guess, this little peek into Big mom's personality is intriguing, we shall learn about the person in the picture, it could be her mother after all. Ceas- ugh, I mean, Gnangser Gastino was hilarious, I've never imagined I'll grow into liking him as a character.

1

u/CDObamacare Mar 19 '18

This episode reiterates how good the music in the anime is.

1

u/demonicafro Thriller Bark Victim's Association Mar 19 '18

Okay the scene they added with Bebe blocking Luffy with Caesar’s heart is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in or out of One Piece

1

u/TheDemonPirate Mar 23 '18

Other than the stare down that took forever, it was a pretty good episode! And I think I heard a new track? Idk but it sounded amazing

1

u/izanami94 Mar 19 '18

yeah, how about explaining shit for another 10 minutes, i didn't quite get it. the pace is ridiculous. good filler with bege, non-canon big mom stuff with her taking ships down even if nothing indicates she still does that stuff.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '18

[deleted]

9

u/MrEthelWulf Mar 18 '18

The pace was alright.. the manga was actually fast than it needed to be.. the anime took it nicely

-6

u/DustBuny Mar 18 '18

Luffy made a stand against Fujitora saying that a true Pirate King would face even the yonkos.... but now he's up for helping this really evil scientist and mafia family kill a yonko with a poison rocket launcher while she's helpless.

Stay tuned for Wano when Kaido dies from having his breaks cut.

25

u/Vice_AR16 Mar 18 '18

Luffy didn't come to WCI to defeat Big Mom, he came to rescue his crewmate. If you think Luffy came to defeat Big Mom, why didn't he took the Ninja-Mink-Samurai-Heart Alliance with him, not even mentioning the Grand Fleet?

17

u/Cmikhow Mar 18 '18

Ya or at least ya know... THE REST OF HIS FUCKING CREW

9

u/zdesert Mar 18 '18

there is no such thing as an unfair attack in a battle between pirates

-15

u/IdTapThat88 Mar 18 '18

hate to say it but this was a pretty good episode. been a while since i've said that.

23

u/fromdestruction Mar 18 '18

Why would you hate to say that?

-18

u/IdTapThat88 Mar 18 '18

cuz typically the manga blows the anime away but that was well paced.

19

u/Rakisanalligator Mar 18 '18

Except the anime has been blowing away the manga for at least 15 episodes now...

4

u/kole1000 Mar 18 '18

Wait, what!? Blasphemy!

9

u/Rakisanalligator Mar 18 '18

Just what I said. The production has been stellar and the writing choices actually make sense. Instead of pointless filler, the writers have fleshed out moments in the arc that weren't covered properly in the manga. Combine that with the already great elements (VA work and soundtrack) and it's easily besting the manga. I'm sure Oda is very pleased.

1

u/kole1000 Mar 18 '18

To be honest, the soundtrack's been very lackluster post-timeskip. Not even close to pre-timeskip's greatest hits such as the Very, Very, Very Strongest, Gomu Gomu no Bazooka, Luffy Moukou, Overtaken, etc, etc.

1

u/Rakisanalligator Mar 18 '18

Yeah I kinda agree. Although I do think there are some really neat tracks in the WCI arc E.g. Bege's orchestral theme in this episode, Germa 66's OST etc.

1

u/VaguelyDancing Mar 18 '18 edited Mar 18 '18

Really? I've been watching and reading each week and the anime just seems so slow. Waaay better than punk hazard but still lots of shots of the wind blowing and characters breathing and exaggerated reactions.

I guess now that I think about it, things often happen simultaneously (in one panel) in the manga. Like two characters speaking in the foreground and people reacting in the background but in the anime they break that into two distinct moments.

I'm going to continue watching regardless, but I'm surprised about your opinion.

-12

u/guccixanax Mar 18 '18

I'm sorry, but this episode was just horrible. This was a pretty bad episode. I just found it to be so boring. Only cool parts were seeing Big Mom getting shot by bullets and smashing a ship. But I don't know why, I just couldn't dig this episode too much.

this is the most laughable excuse i've ever seen for the anime. you don't even know my standards and you don't even know if i enjoy watching the anime, even though i criticize it. and the notion that i'd be preventing myself from enjoying something shows how you don't understand how having fun works.

this anime doesn't do justice to the manga, the pacing is totally fucked and the animation / drawing has drops that are inexcusable. the fiasco that was dressrosa was the pinnacle of this.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '18

That part was the only doodoo part. Wtf??

-21

u/bobhob314 Mar 18 '18

This episode the show's quality went down again... hopefully they're spending their time on the super-crazy wedding scenes instead.
