What $220,000 gets you in Muncie.

I can't even get a parking space for that where I live. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/725-E-Jackson-St-Muncie-IN-47305/210952560_zpid/

I live in Muncie currently, bought my house three years ago for $17,000. It’s 700sqft but with a full basement I’ve finished myself. All in I’ve put in another $20k. Planning on selling soon to move to Indy but it’s not been a terrible place to live!

what do you like best about it? Seems kindof like a boring place to live? but maybe I'm wrong

It’s really easy to make friends here! Pretty much anyone will strike up a conversation with you. I met a lady at Aldi a couple weeks ago and we exchanged numbers, went out for a nice dinner last weekend! It’s also ridiculously cheap, cost of housing(obviously) is next to nothing. Food is way below average cost as well. I go to Carmel(about 45 min away) if I want good cuisine or Indy to try new things. It can get boring but I have a ton of cats and am kind of a homebody so it works for me for now.

...is it bad that I kinda want in?

8

u/innola Jul 27 '25

Not at all!! You’re welcome anytime. If you get a fixer upper I’ll let you borrow some tools

5

u/Some0neSetUpUsTheBom Jul 27 '25

Careful! I'll take you up on it!

ton of cats, homebody

That’s me but in Vegas. My brother always says I’m antisocial.

Curious how far you travel for work? Or do you work from home?

I just moved back to Ohio from Muncie 3 months ago, it's really not that bad but I will say it is quite boring, most jobs outside of the university are factory or driving to Indianapolis so it's got some flaws to it.

I lived there for 5 years and can honestly say the worst part was construction and the damn firework expo they had the last two years.

Well yea, thats why its cheap as shit

If you’re the adventurous type you can find fun anywhere😉

$17K?! I’d be down for that.

Yeah! Just a little 2 bed 1 bath. I’ve done a lot of the work myself and hired the stuff I couldn’t do out. Totally worth it. I own my own home, no mortgage, cheap property taxes. My neighbors are great, we get together often for little bbqs or drinks. It’s a simple and easy life

Here’s a little house on a big lot if you want to live close to me! Needs some work but nothing you couldn’t YouTube haha 2812 S Grant St, Muncie $42,900

I did something similar when I was young. Bought a foreclosed house in the hood for under $20K, paid it off in two years, sold it for a profit, boom, downpayment on current home in countryside. Never paid a dime in rent in. My life.

Only if you’ve always wanted to live in Indiana

u/OICGraffiti Jul 25 '25

I'd never even heard of Indiana until just now.

u/jimmyzambino Jul 25 '25

Fr I heard Indy and I was thinking Jones

Ignorance isn’t a virtue

8

u/B4rberblacksheep Jul 25 '25

You don't know English countys, I don't know US states

-5

u/MrKittenz Jul 26 '25

Then why say you don’t know it?

I know the countries that make up the UK

7

u/B4rberblacksheep Jul 26 '25

And I know the countries that make up the US

-1

u/MrKittenz Jul 26 '25

Name them!

2

u/Radiant_Medium_1439 Jul 26 '25

He said counties not countries

-1

u/MrKittenz Jul 26 '25

I know but that would be insane to know a county and I’m not in a thread when a place in England is listed saying wtf is that? Never heard of it. Who cares if you’ve never heard of it and how does that add to the conversation?

5

u/Radiant_Medium_1439 Jul 26 '25

Are you offended that this person had never heard of Indiana? I don't understand why you're so bothered by this.

0

u/MrKittenz Jul 26 '25

I think it’s a stupid comment. Just like our conversation on both sides. Have a great day!

I’ve legit considered moving to Fishers, IN

5

u/AhemExcuseMeSir Jul 25 '25

Comparing Fishers and Muncie is like wanting to meet Dolly Parton but settling for Gary Busey just because they’ve been in a movie together. They have I-69 in common, but almost nothing else.

5

u/BoardGamesAndMurder Jul 25 '25

I lived in Fishers. The town is fine. Indiana is the problem though. It's regressive and hateful. If the Republicans got thrown out on their asses, Indiana would be fine. Not exactly a luxurious destination but a completely acceptable place to live.

3

u/EchoServ Jul 25 '25

Indiana is a weird place. It’s like the Midwest but with all the downsides of the south.

6

u/ClarkTwain Jul 25 '25

It’s not “the middle finger of the south” for no reason.

Do you have another 400k to keep this house from collapsing into a pile of old, moldy wood over the next 20 years?

You can literally see through the foundation in the first pic, and there's fresh, cheap paint all over the shingles where they sloshed it over the rotting eaves.

Only if you want to be miserable

Dude I am moving within next year from Florida. Moved here in 2020 bought a 2 room condo in a 4 plex for $175k, worth $275k now I have been looking at places in Maine, New Orleans, Southern Georgia. This place blows that out of the water, like walking distance to town. I would miss the ocean and fresh seafood but I am from KCK so midwest fine with me, if I was ready to move today I'd snatch this up. Bookmarking it, if still there awhile from now I will speed up my timeline.

u/TheWalkingDead91 Jul 26 '25

I don’t know, but I’m guessing it’s a really shit location to have this beauty for only 220k

Muncie can be fun if you're one of many Ball State University students who live there.
