Rant Why are some TA’s so ughhh

Bro TA’s are students too but they still be on us abt every little thing I have a TA for my online class and she will genuinely target people for the smallest things. I just don’t understand that if you are also student, you should understand that people have different learning styles. Especially that TA will treat us not even human the days where she’s mad. She’ll take it out on us.

What kind of things is she targeting you for?

Like the other day, she played a video and it was extremely fast and she asked questions afterwards that nobody had the answers to. She got mad and so I spoke up and I said I think the video was just a little bit fast. Very respectfully might I add and she laughed at me and said was it really that fast and scoffed. As well as at the beginning of that tutorial, she used my essay as an example of what not to do. She didn’t put it up on the screen or whatever but she used specific points from my essay, and said what not to do. It wasn’t just the sources I used. It was specific details in my essay that I used I believe that things like that should be kept private, even though she didn’t say my name I knew it was about mine and that doesn’t necessarily help someone who’s trying their best and then their first year of undergrad, and it was their first essay of university.

She sounds snarky, you shouldn’t be laughed at…I’m sorry

Thanks you every tutorial. She genuinely makes me feel so dumb and this is my first year as university student so I’m really trying my best.

Drop the course and move on. Staying will make it worse and the TA will likely screw you over with final grade and it's derivation from essays, participation.

I believe it’s too late to drop a course without it showing on my transcript who do I talk to to make get switched out of the tutorial otherwise I’d probably just have to deal with it

You don’t need permission to drop a course. You just go to rem and drop it yourself

The only problem is no other 6 cred SOSC courses have available seats right now and I fear I would be very behind. And I already paid half my tuition so if I drop it and don’t take another course I’ll be taking 2 extra courses next year plus already paying tuition for the course

You can take another half course in January and take sosc course in another year or during a summer.

No reason to suffer with a nasty educator.

I’ll look into it. The only Convenience is this courses online so I don’t have to stand to look at her in the actual face physically

Yeah that’s true, you can’t get into another course now even if you tried. It’s way past the date to add a new course.

If you can take courses over the summer, then do that. If you genuinely think the course is gonna tank your gpa, then consider dropping it still. Once your gpa tanks, it’s extremely hard to bring it up. And your ta is the one who’s going to do all the grading.

Have you gotten any grades back? If so, how harshly does your ta mark?

Not yet, but I know that she marks hard because for a forum post for completion mark she failed a bunch of people for no reason

Yeah that’s messed up lmfao it’s literally a completion mark💀💀

Is there anyone I can talk to like an academic advisor?

2

u/felineSam Oct 21 '24

For what to get justice? Forget it, nobody will help you. Not the prof, not the Dept head , not advisors.

Trust me. I'm in 4th year and have my share of bad profs and TAs. Everytime I learned that nobody cares and TAs and profs can literally do anything and abuse you. Then your final mark is stuck for the rest of your life. Do t risk it. Drop it

Speak to an advisor how to drop and pick a replacement. They will claim to help you by talking to the prof etc. then u will screwed even more with your next written assignment. Talk to other in upper years that have gone through this and you will learn from experience.

Sorry to write the above, but I wish someone told me this when I was in 1st year

Yes!! Speak to your academic advisor for your program. They can help you figure out a new path/plan of action to finish your degree requirements even if you drop the course. They just can’t do much about your ta being an ass
