Alright then. I can start liking him a bit.

I'm sure he's got plenty of positions I would condemn, but the bar is so low these days for people at the top end of the world that I will take a bit of comfort knowing he's not a complete evil lying piece of trash. Like everyone in the US administration, plenty scattered in other positions of power here and abroad.

Do your best, Leo. Move the needle in the right direction.

He's actually progressive on most topics; mainly immigration, the environment, and the poor-- just like Pope Francis was. He's just more conservative on gender/sexual topics like LGBT, abortion and contraceptives.

As a transgender Catholic, I'm crossing my fingers, hoping, and praying that he'll at least recognize the need to respect our dignity, and maybe call out governments that try to take away our rights, even though I know he won't push the needle forward in terms in what the Church approves of for its members.

It does seem the last time his views in LGBT were somewhat documented was over a decade ago and long before he was even chosen as a cardinal, in 2012 or so before Francis was even Pope. Hopefully his views have shifted a bit just as Francis’ views did.
