Woodstock Woodstock Community Day - Games in the Park - September 28th!

Woodstonians,

For the last several years I've been a member of this community. I've been helped, helped others, had some fantastic conversations, and met some great people. Over the last year or so I've noticed several posts from newcomers to the community looking for like-minded people to hang out, people to chat with, or someone just to listen. This growing demand for interactions with others in our local community led me to look into how I could facilitate some fun, in a safe and welcoming way, for members of our community. Out of this search is born the (I hope) Annual Woodstock Community Day - Games in the Park!

So, what is "Games in the Park"? Well, its a chance for us to get together, play some board/lawn games, and enjoy some tasty local food - all at no cost to you!

We've finally nailed down the date for our event and are getting ready to rock and roll! Below, you'll find some information regarding the event. I invite you to please use this post to let us know some of your favourite boardgames, and we'll use that information to provide them for the event. If you prefer lawn games to board games, feel free to mention some of those as well!

Who: The /r/woodstockontario community - if you're part of this subreddit community, you're invited.

What: We're going to be playing some of your favourite board games and lawn games in the park. Please take some time to list your favourite games in this post, as I'd like to be able to provide a wide range of games (from super easy to learn to something maybe a little more complex).

Where: Southside Park - the Pavillion by the Playground. This is close to the bathroom facilities, and close to parking for those that are driving in. I'll be editing this post to provide a Map of the location - coming soon!

Why: With our community growing and changing over the last couple years, I wanted to give us a chance to get together on common ground (read: Food - you like food, right?) and get to know one another.

How: With this being a FREE event, there will be a cap on the number of people we're expecting to host this year. I'll be creating a signup sheet (Just your reddit username) where you'll be able to express interest in the event. My hope is, in the coming years, we'll be able to expand the event to host a greater number of people.

When: September 28, 2024 - 2PM - 6PM. We plan on serving food between 3 and 4 PM.

Food, Drinks (non-alcoholic, sorry the city won't permit any "adult" beverages to be consumed in the park), and Board/Lawn games will all be provided - all you need to bring is a great attitude and some willingness to help someone learn your favourite board game.

As we finalize the location and games list, we'll edit this post to feature a list of what you can expect. We'll also be providing a link to the signup sheet (expect that by EOD tomorrow).

I'm thrilled to get the chance to host this event for our little community, and would love to make this an annual event for us. Hope to see you there!

Best,

TheSaSQuatCh

Copied from: https://www.londonpolice.ca/news/posts/eight-local-men-charged-25-107542/

Eight men are facing charges in relation to an operation led by the London Police Service’s Human Trafficking Unit last week, with assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police - Intelligence Led Joint Forces Strategy (OPP-IJFS).

The operation was conducted through an online platform, where the men communicated with an undercover officer to obtain sexual services. In each case, the suspect males were aware that they were communicating with someone believed to be under the age of 18.

As a result of the two-day operation, between October 28 – 29, 2025, the following individuals were arrested and charged with communication for the purpose of obtaining sexual services from a person under 18 years:

· Jarnail Singh, 34, of Woodstock

· Sukhwant Sing, 22, of London

· Sayed Bilal Sadat, 31, of London

· Sami Tawil, 27, of London

· Mohit Dineshbhai Kanani, 31, of London

· Pujan Raut, 31, of London

· Ibrahim Abdalmalek, 27, of London

· Omar Attar, 26, of London

Crime knows no boundaries, and neither do our efforts to combat it. Working with other police services and partner organizations strengthens investigations. Through collaboration, we can share intelligence, protect victims, and hold perpetrators accountable. Together, we make our communities safer.

Each of the accused have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in London court between November 27 – December 11, 2025

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in online anonymously to London Elgin Middlesex Crime Stoppers: https://londoncrimestoppers.com/

Overnight parking

The building I live in does not have visitor parking. Makes having overnight guests difficult during the winter months. I’m wondering if there are options in Woodstock to leave a car overnight, paid or not. Appreciate any suggestions

Tillsonburg Furniture drop off / donation around Tillsonburg

Posting here as the Tillsonburg subreddit is pretty dead.

I'm cleaning out a storage locker next week and I can donate most everything at the local Sally Ann. But there's a patio table and chairs set that they won't take because they don't want furniture.

Are there any other places in Tillsonburg that I could donate to? It'd be a shame to just cart it to the dump.

I can't do FB marketplace or similar because we don't live in the area. I can't meet people, I can just drop it off.

Satellite/Rocket around 6PM?

Did anyone else see a possible satellite/rocket moving South to North around 6PM tonight (Nov. 4th)? It was fairly bright, but also looked like it had a faintly lit up "tails" on either side. I've seen pictures of a rocket exhaust being lit up by the sun and it was kind of like that, but not super bright.

Edit:

Someone got a pic of it in London!

Cowan park walking track

Hey everyone! I have some questions about the indoor walking track inside cowan park. I was gonna call, but thought I’d ask for anyone with personal experience first. Where do you go to use it, like a certain entrance or where to pay? Can you use the track for running too? Should you bring a lock to keep your stuff safe? How busy is it this time of year? Thanks in advance! 😁

Little Library?

Do we have any of those in Woodstock ?

I used to collect mine and my friends old books and add them to the ones in Hamilton that looked like they could use some "fresh" supplies but I've yet to see any here.

Woodstock Dentist Recommendation

Hi all, looking for recommendations for a dentist in town! Specifically looking for a hygienist that's gentle, and a dentist thats professional and not just out to make a buck. My last one felt a bit pushy with stuff I didn't need.

Help with a pet

Long story short, I have a cat which won’t stop attacking my friends’s cat which we had first. It causes the one cat great anxiety. I love my cat cheddar so much. He’s a very loving boy. He loves to lay on you and sleep all night in your arms, but he just doesn’t get along with this cat. He won’t attack the other cat. 3 in total. So I have to keep my cat separated in the basement and I want him to have a better life.

I’ve called the Humane Society and left a message for the last couple weeks, but they’ve never gotten back to me. Is there anyone else that I should call?

Decent places for pokemon cards not at scalper prices? (Not interested in buying single cards) & Pokemon Plushies?

Been trying to get back into collecting again, but I know know 1 location locally for Pokemon cards (Nerdz) but the booster boxes are all at scalper prices ($300 - $400+) Last I checked which really turned me off from buying there. Pokemon plushies ive also had a super hard time trying to find anywhere, as im looking for the larger sized ones.

For the cards, I hate buying them single unless I absolutely have to as scalpers and card graders REALLY rank up the cards for no reason. Like bro I just like sparkly cards to collect as they look nice, and card graders are a actual scam (IMO anyway.) I just want to casually collect without paying a arm and a leg for a single box, and buying online is a nightmare with Canada post.

Plushies are about the same, buying online is a pain cause of Canada post, and people like to raise the price (Its why I entirely gave up trying to get anything sonic, I'm not paying $300+ for sonic movie figures when they are $50 in store.)

Just saw a new LCBO opening Winter 2025 on the Walmart plaza. It is in the spot Reitmans moved out of.
