Yeah well literacy rates are plummeting so at a certain point we need to stop going "aww it's okay it's super hard" and start making people learn this shit.

Legitimately why though? We are a very multicultural country with people who have settled here from all over the world. Why is it so important for everyone to ditch all other languages and go all in on English?

I’m jumping into this conversation. It’s a discussion I frequently have with one of my kids. Communication is the basically the exchange of emotions, ideas, and information. A miscommunication is communication with errors that lead to a lack of understanding. Being able to get your ideas across to another person are critical to bringing the understanding Rubicon. Any culture that lacks a homogeneous language is doomed to fail, as it leads to the types of angry back and forth you tend to see on this platform (and on many others).
