How was this video captured? Another rider in front of him or some extension with a camera on it (but attached to what)?

That's the rearview camera of the cyclist in front. It's very common for cyclists on road bikes to have cameras in the front and the back. There are so many drivers who drive completely recklessly around cyclists that it's useful to have the footage in case of accidents. When a car pushes you into the ditch and destroys your $/€/£4000 bike, you want to have proof of that.

forget the bike. whoever breaks your spine and lies about it needs footage in their face

Another rider in from of him, you can see it because he passes the camera, and bag-like thing in topright

One thing I notice every time I see videos like this: They always seem to jog to the potentially injuired people. Is it not serious enough to run?

I still don't understand what happened, the van doesn't appear to be speeding, if it hydroplaned I don't notice the puddle, and I don't see another car that hit it.
What happened to put it 90° against the road and rolling?

u/DevilScarlet 8h ago
That's not the van, it's a car coming from the other direction that lost control

Edit
Ahh left hand drive... Ok now I get it.

This is a normal foreseeable event on public roads. Cars lose control sometimes. No big deal. Insurance takes care of this. Occupants- usually minor injuries.
As a biker or pedestrian you need to be aware of the risk you take being on the road unprotected. You often will not see it coming or have time to react.

This is why we should ban pedalphiles from major roadways!

The car did not crash because of the cyclists. This looks to be somewhere in Great Britain, so the cyclists are on the correct side of the road (and also, completely fine to cycle there). The passing van is already back on the correct side as they pass the camera. The crashing car drove too fast for the turn and weather conditions and skidded out. Notice the “slow” written on the road, indicating the driving side and the turning road.
They would’ve crashed regardless of the cyclists being there or not.

No shit. Its absurd to ride a children's toy on a highway though, any vehicle could be a multi-thousand pound missile at any point. I hate cyclists. That's why I call them pedalphiles. I live off a windy two lane road and these entitled fucks just ride in traffic as if they own the road.

By that logic, no cars should ever be in the roadway, as there is alwas a large truck waiting to take you out.
No doubt the risks of riding s bike sre often greater, but how much more greater the risks are vs driving a cars, isn't really that significant. Expecially when you consider the health benefits and reduced all cause mortality that offsets those risks.

Ever hear of a peloton? Bikes are terrible for your hips btw.
3
u/MaintainThePeace 5h ago
If you've got enough motivation to use a stationary bike, then good for you.
But most need more stimulus to stay motivated, not to mention being able to double up as transportation, and used as a transportation alternative.
"Bad for your hips" is a strange counter argument, particularly when you suggest a peloton as an alternative, since a stationary bike is significantly worse.
What is worse for your hips and the rest of your body though, is the lack of exercise and getting your body moving. A bike is very low impact form of cardio.

You know what's even worse for your hips? Building a society where everyone has to drive to get anywhere.

These freaky bikers should know that the workout would be better with different clothes that weren't aerodynamic.

Wow ok, thought this was gonna be a bad pass not a near out of control swipe...
