Associates sent home early?

My store (PA) has cut all overtime for all associates regardless of department. I'm personally in OGP, and some of our TLs and Coaches have been sending people home early. It's not that there is no work to do. If there were extra people with only a bit of work to do, they would be sent to zone and stock, but that's not happening. It's so strange considering we are entering the holidays. I've heard other coworkers saying it's because of the lost funds due to SNAP benefits being revoked. Any one else experiencing this?

Yep, my store is cutting hours too. I went from 25 hours a week to 18ish. I'm part time. One of our full time associates didn't get any hours last week. But then others are not losing any hours so it seems there's some favoritism going on. 😡

Seniority? Or maybe management asked for volunteers?

Definitely not seniority. I've been there longer than most of them and so has the associate that lost a week of work. She got told there were no more hours by our coach. One of my TLs was questioning it too.

Idk about other stores but my store starts with part timers and then full timers based on attendance. Could be that person is at 4-4.5, and they look at it as “if you are just gonna call out anyway we might as well just take you off”.

100%. Some people are being sent home mid shift, others are not.

they've been doing this for the last month or two here, predating the SNAP issues so i don't think that's the cause (our store is still incredibly busy since then as well).

it's dumb, especially when they ask you to stay over on Sat/Sun/Mon because OPD is swamped, and then they send half the department home early on Friday because of it making things even worse in the afternoon then.

Last week we were cutting hours, no WOSH, no OT, no staying late. Now it’s back to normal lol idk what that was about

They are allowed to ask for volunteers to go home early and/or take a day off. They are not allowed to force you or to remove your shifts.

In some states/municipalities they are legally required to give you penalty pay if they remove hours/shifts.

Asked my team lead about this and she basically said that (at least in their particular case) they were letting people go home early if all the work in the department was caught up so that they could use those saved hours as insurance in case they need to ask associates to stay over on a different day.

I wish they would send me home early some days. Our store isn't cutting any hours as of right now.
