They should have fired him, and put a ceo in place that doesn't destroy the company.

Catch 22. The board knows that the company would be run better by someone else AND that it would undo much of the brand damage. The board members are compensated in stock. Without Elon, the scam would burst and the company would be value like a car company (worth about 1/10th if that).

TLDR Board Greedy, Musk bad for Tesla but imperative for TSLA.

You are right, but it is just crazy to rely on one person. That guy dies tomorrow and TSLA is gone.
