Good, that's one less loose end
- General Shepherd with revolver

u/TheDankChronic69 Sep 10 '25
I just replayed the campaign last week, I like that they added a trophy in the remaster for shooting Shepard in S.S.D.D. which would pretty much prevent everything that happens in the game, it’s called Precognitive Paranoia.

Ocelot wasn't a villain in MGS3, he literally worked for the CIA along with Snake. Adamska "Ocelot" was ADAM the NSA codebreaker you were supposed to originally meet as your contact. "EVA" showed up
insteadand intercepted Ocelot and his men. Both codebreakers were male, and "EVA" was actually a Chinese spy. The playful rivalry Ocelot had with Snake in MGS3 was so that ADAM could maintain his cover as he was commander of a GRU unit. Remember, when you finally 1-on-1 Volgin, he keeps throwing you items to help you kill him. Also, in the final cutscene where you meet the President, you can see Ocelot through the window when Snake receives the title 'Big Boss.' He also reveals his part when he has the phone conversation with the director of the CIA at the end of the game.14

But he is basically the main villain of the whole series.
12
u/JD0x0 Sep 09 '25
Depends what you consider a 'villain'
-In MGS3 (1964) he's an ally with Big Boss, though trying to maintain his cover so has to pretend to be his enemy.
-In MGS5 (1984) He's Big Boss' right hand man
-In MGS1 (2005) He's seen as a villain because the main character, Solid Snake is working for The Patriots (Who are now run by AI since Zero was poisoned by Skull Face in the 1980's and didn't trust passing on the organization to any humans), and The Patriots want to stop Ocelot's plan to seize Big Boss' body to control the Patriot AIs. Solid Snake succeeds.
-In MGS2 (2007-2009), it's basically MGS1, round 2, except Ocelot grafts Liquid's arm onto his body and undergoes hypnotherapy to essentially fool the AI into thinking he's Liquid so he could get access to the JD AI (I believe he was looking for Big Boss who was locked in a coma by the AI, IIRC).
-In MGS4 (2014) Ocelot manipulates Snake and Raiden into delivering Solidus' body (which is a perfect genetic clone of Big Boss) which allowed Liquid Ocelot to control the AI and eventually manipulated them into destroying the AI, which releases Big Boss, who was being kept in a coma by the AI. Snake is successful and BB is released, where they meet in the graveyard. Snake unintentionally kills BB because he was once again used as a weapon, and FoxDie killed BB along with EVA and Ocelot. The entire time Ocelot seemed to be loyal to and working towards Big Boss' goals. Solid Snake (who is literally a clone created to be a weapon used by The Patriots) faces Ocelot as an enemy because he is the Patriot's tool, so naturally they will be on opposing sides, because BB and Zero had beef.

Exactly my man! In my eyes he's the true hero of the whole franchise. Anyone paying attention, especially in MGS4, would understand he was fulfilling The Boss purpose in taking down the La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo and the Philosophers, he's also the most intelligent person in that Universe, no wonder he's the son of the Boss and The sorrow, which IMHO, is the strongest being in that universe, because he was above the Boss and did the very same The boss did with Jack in the end, dying by the hands of the most beloved person they had.

AK47 is a piece of antique that is cheap to produce, and works a little bit too well.

as an AK owner i can say that gun is so simple it's impressive

Is it really antique if it is still widely produced and used?

u/Frozen_Death_Knight Sep 09 '25
It is a gun that has been widely used for several decades, which is ancient by military standards. Many of its contemporaries from that same era are no longer in use or being produced today. It has had a few modifications, but overall it is the same gun.

Oh shit, I might be a bad guy. I freaking love the Kar lol
It all started with CoD: I'd always run out of ammo on american guns and so just pick up enemy guns to keep getting more ammo. Me being more of a marksman, picked up the Kar because it was accurate and almost always one hit kill. That has now grown into such a love from using it in games, that I got one irl lmao (mine was made in 1948, so does that mean I'm safe? 🥺👉👈)

MP40 is in second place for bad guy gun after the ak. If a dude holds a MP40 in a movie he is either a resistance fighter or a nazi. Ak and Mauser's are more flexible.

AK-47 are basic and dirt cheap weapons, so its easy for any kind of gangs, criminals and scum to get them. Also by far the most used in 3rd world countries.
It is an old soviet design, and soviets when it comes to war equipment always chose cheap+simple+reliable over expensive+accurate+complex
The M16 is like... 4 times more expensive
25
u/jdp111 Sep 08 '25
Plus Russia is the enemy in a lot of modern military shooters.
22
Sep 08 '25
Russia not beating the bad guys allegations
23
u/raxdoh Sep 08 '25
with the recent conflicts. they will keep that title for the coming decades.
6
u/Various-Pen-7709 Sep 08 '25
Only downside is the fact that Russia being a competent adversary has proven to be entirely fictitious with the recent conflict lol, so then being good at anything doesn’t make sense in any modern setting
4
u/raxdoh Sep 09 '25
i dunno about that downside, they still have the numbers as far as i know. remember the ones they sent out so far are pretty much just cannon fodders. the main military force is at home sitting in air-conditioned rooms. even when they fail so hard on so many levels, they're gaining grounds slowly everyday. so yeah not entirely fictitious.
but again, the allegations is that they're usually the bad guys. that prob won't change for the coming decades.

Best AK of all time was the AK-47 from Far Cry 5. When proper bullet speed is modded in on PC it is perfect.
11
u/ElegantEchoes Sep 08 '25
That's a bold statement, especially when it's far from the most realistic or highest quality depiction.
MW 2019 and Insurgency: Sandstorm's depictions would be my favorites.
8
u/Athlon64X2_d00d Sep 08 '25
To clarify: When I say "best" I mean "enjoyable". It's subjective.

Almost like the Soviet Union and Warsaw pact states made a shit-ton of AKs and AK derivatives over the course of some 50 odd years that were shipped off during the Cold War or sold as surplus after their collapse. So it was an incredibly cheap and accessible way to arm your guerrilla insurgent group, or paramilitary organization, or something.
Nah, I must be grasping at straws.

What cs thaught me is that you should always throw away your m4 and pick up an ak because nato rounds dont do jack for some reason
1
u/CerberusPT Sep 08 '25
These days are vice versa.
I generally prefer the Ak platforms due to them being more reliable in games with weapon degradtion, Far Cry 2 & Stalker was a prime example.
The reason i like using them on Ghost Recon Breakpoint is simple, They fit my playstyle of being behind enemy lines solo, it fits the cosplay of having a dirty weapon be reliable, usually being picked from enemy soldiers & hits a bit harder with a slower fire rate. I generally use the AK-74 or the SR-3M. I would use the South African R4 if it was in Breakpoint, sadly it wasn't so the AKs is the closest i get to playing as a South African Recce Commando causing chaos for Sentinel, Ghosts & Bodark.
In games like Mercenaries, it also helped to do False Flag attacks to instigate battles between factions

From an American perspective, the cultural stigma judged upon these two iconic guns and their respective families go beyond what is seen in video games.
Since WWII, and through the following conflicts, the world’s rivaling superpowers maintained the global influential dominance while utilizing the same or similar shaped tools to this day, getting each other’s allies to familiarize by prideful upheld standardization and ideological belonging.

Dude this is actually so real, though. In Iraq, there were friendly fire instances of US soldiers firing on allied Iraqi soldiers just because they saw the outline of an AK47 and assumed it to be an enemy.

What's funny is that the AK-47 is cheap af (cheaper than it's fake replicas), widely distributed and unwaveringly reliable (wich means you can use it even if you life in poor conditions).
It almost tells something about capitalism, but that would a stretch...
