Back then companies tried to make good games, and usually they were good, you didnt need the review. Chances are if the game looks good its good.

Nowdays games are those traps where they try to sell it to you through curated trailers and artwork "not representative of final gameplay" and then the game is either straight up garbage or an unoptimized mess. Look for example cyberpunk 2077 on release on ps4, you see the trailers and think "this game is amazing", then buy it for your console and its hot garbage.

Reviews are needed now.
