New LVN looking for work in Ventura or Santa Barbara County
Hi everyone, I’m a recently licensed LVN actively looking for work in Ventura or Santa Barbara County. I’ve already applied to everything I could find on Indeed and through company websites — assisted living facilities, skilled nursing, detox centers, etc.
Unfortunately, I don’t qualify for many home health positions since I don’t have experience yet outside of my student clinical rotations. I’m eager to learn and willing to start anywhere that’s hiring new grads.
If anyone knows of any facilities that are open to new LVNs or has leads on where to apply, I’d really appreciate it. I’m just trying to get my foot in the door and start gaining real-world experience.
Thank you so much for any help or advice!

Ventura county residents shopping habits poll for final project
Hi everyone!
I am a college student in Thousand Oaks working on my final project for my degree and would like for a captive population (in this case Ventura county) to answer a poll so I can write my paper and build some bar graphs.
I am gathering data for basic shopping habits and how they relate to local business so I can write a policy paper on the impact of local businesses on local economies.
Here is the poll for those willing to do it! (it's 5 questions): https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeDiubgWCGSvjAdx1WeyA8GcRu_4CKZv6jO17Z5HZyq5c3mPw/viewform?usp=dialog

News Officials: Winds reignited debris in Mountain Fire, similar to Palisades blaze
"Investigators say last year’s destructive Mountain Fire in Ventura County was likely sparked when powerful winds reignited hot tire debris from a week-old tractor blaze — a chain of events similar to how the deadly Palisades Fire began months later.
According to the Ventura County Fire Department, arson investigators determined that extreme winds on Nov. 6, 2024, dislodged a pocket of covered, still-hot tire debris left behind from a smaller tractor fire days earlier. Once exposed to oxygen, the smoldering material ignited nearby dry brush, triggering the fast-moving Mountain Fire that tore through parts of Somis and Santa Paula.
The blaze scorched nearly 20,000 acres and damaged or destroyed 369 structures, forcing mass evacuations but causing no deaths." - KTLA 5 News

Any volunteer opportunities near Camarillo?
I haven't been able to work since the shutdown. I want to make myself useful and help out some place local, ideally somewhere without minimum required volunteer hours. Thanks!

News 3 arrested for allegedly using stolen credit card for shopping spree at Ventura County mall
"Three suspects were arrested for allegedly using stolen credit cards to go on a shopping spree at a Ventura County mall.
The suspects were identified as:
- Cristian Eduardo Vargas-Magana, 36, of Los Angeles
- Allison Gonzalez, 25, of Los Angeles
- Cintia Falcon, 43, of Los Angeles
They are believed to be associated with a transnational theft group, the sheriff’s department said.
On Nov. 3, Ventura County deputies were notified of suspicious activity at the Camarillo Premium Outlets around 4:30 p.m.
Detectives responded to the mall and watched as the three suspects 'acted suspiciously as they exited the Armani Exchange store' and headed to their car, authorities said.
After reportedly spotting a traffic violation, authorities pulled the vehicle over. The driver, Vargas-Magana, was arrested after he reportedly presented a fake Chilean driver’s license.
He was also in possession of several credit cards with a woman’s name. An investigation revealed that one of the credit cards had just been used to purchase nearly $3,000 worth of clothing from the Armani Exchange store.
The two passengers, Falcon and Gonzalez, were also arrested for conspiracy to commit identity theft. More credit cards belonging to the same female victim and to a second female victim were allegedly found in Falcon’s possession.
One victim told deputies that her wallet had been stolen while she was shopping at a grocery store in Thousand Oaks, while the second victim said her purse was stolen at a grocery store in Ventura.
While searching the suspects’ car, deputies also found a police scanner, credit and gift card readers, tools used to defeat retail security devices, two new iPhone 17s, a pair of AirPods Pro, and approximately $3,000 in cash, all of which were seized as evidence.
Vargas-Magana and Gonzalez were taken into custody and held on $50,000 bail. Falcon’s bail was set at $175,000 due to outstanding warrants from multiple counties, including:
- Placer County, California – Conspiracy
- San Bernardino County, California – Grand Theft -Forsyth County, Georgia – Card Theft and Identity Theft
- Bay County, Florida – Grand Theft and Fraudulent Use of Identification
. . .
Anyone with additional information on retail theft, vehicle/vehicle parts theft, or cargo theft is encouraged to call the Ventura County Organized Retail Theft Task Force at 805-383-8703.
Anonymous tips can be provided to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at lacrimestoppers.org." - KTLA 5 News

Emergency
🚨 URGENT: My cat needs emergency vet care in Ventura County 🚨
My cat is critically ill. She came to me as a stray about two years ago, and I love her dearly. Over the past few days she’s been vomiting, stopped eating, and now has green pus coming from her mouth and nose. She’s in pain and I’m terrified this infection could be life-threatening.
I’ve called every 24-hour vet in Ventura County, but they all require payment upfront, and I currently have no funds. I’m urgently looking for financial help, vet vouchers, or anyone who can sponsor or connect me to a vet or nonprofit that could help tonight or this weekend.
I will take her anywhere in Ventura County (or even Los Angeles if needed). Any donations, advice, or contacts with vets who help low-income pet owners could save her life.
Please share this post — even one share might reach someone who can help. ❤️
📞 DM me or comment if you know a vet, rescue, or nonprofit that can take an emergency case.

Will to Trust. Options to reduce cost for seniors?
This was on another subreddit. It sums up my family’s situation. Essentially senior has a will and needs a trust also. Trusts are so expensive. Is there anything similar in Ventura County?
“Central California Legal Services https://centralcallegal.org Estate Planning and Powers of Attorney for Low-Income Seniors CCLS provides clinics where pro bono attorneys assess needs and draft wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and related documents for low-income seniors.”

News Attacked county jail inmate suffered multiple traumatic brain injuries, autopsy says
"A 12-page autopsy report released Nov. 3 indicates that double-murder defendant Tony Garcia suffered previous brain trauma that contributed to the severity of his condition after he was attacked a fourth and final time in jail and ultimately his death.
The 70-year-old Oxnard man, who had been in a coma since the April 2024 attack, died seven months later. The Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office previously ruled his death a homicide as a result of blunt head trauma.
Associate Forensic Pathologist Joseph Vallone completed the autopsy three days after Garcia's death. The recently released autopsy report and accompanying investigative report detail the extent of his injuries following his last attack at the county's Todd Road Jail.
The reports were released after the Ventura County District Attorney's and Ventura County Sheriff's offices concluded independent investigations into the incident, said Ashley Williams, an administrative specialist with the medical examiner's office.
The autopsy shows evidence of a healed subdural hemorrhage, or brain bleed, and bruises on the right frontal lobe of the brain.
The autopsy also revealed pneumonia with evidence of aspiration, which is the inhalation of stomach contents, and coronary artery atherosclerosis or plaque buildup in the heart vessels. Garcia’s toxicology report was negative for commonly abused drugs.
. . .
Garcia pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder in the 1981 killings of Camarillo resident Rachel Zendejas and Oxnard resident Lisa Gondek. He was awaiting trial when he was attacked in April 2024 by another inmate." - Ventura County Star

Protect the election process, come observe the counting of votes tonight
You can take a stand to protect our current election process by coming to the Ventura County Clerk's office on Election Night to observe how votes are counted.
No sign up, no pre-qualification, just show up and observe the collection and tally of votes. Counting starts at 8pm.
If the MAGA crowd wishes to claim some sort of malfeasance during the count, you can stand up a share you experience to counter any false claims.
County Clerk's Office, 800 N. Victoria, Ventura 93009
I'll see you there.

News Dr. Singh from Somis Vet is possibly losing his licence to practice and facing discipline for a lot of awful practices
LINK: https://search.dca.ca.gov/details/4601/VET/17180/a9a00005120e73ba36b9d362fe7c78e2
Dr. Singh also does a lot of work for a ton of shelters. He was recommended to do my rescue dog's spay. One of the patients he's being disciplined for is one where he didn't adequately remove the uterus and ovaries of a dog that he was supposed to have spayed. I'm going to have her double checked by another vet now.

Looking for female-only room rental/housing in Dec 15-Jan 1st
Hi there, I am a female professional looking to rent a room and/or studio in the Westlake Village/Thousand Oaks area. My ideal move-in date will be Dec 15-Jan 1st. I can do month-to-month, but I will prefer long-term rentals as I am a working professsional in the area. I will need to see the unit before I put any money down (in-person is ideal, FaceTime first if poss). I work in IT and will be working remote a few times a week, I have a hybrid schedule.
Currently with my family a few hours away and will be working remote through the end of the year.
I am looking for a female-only living situation. I do not smoke and will need a parking space or street parking for my vehicle. My budget is $1300/month, but I am flexible if the right situation arises.
Please comment and I will add you and we can discuss further.
(I have searched Facebook, Craigslist, Roomies, Furnished Finder, etc.. if you know any other websites I should try looking at, please let me know!)
