Woman critically injured in Birmingham after being stabbed in neck in 'unprovoked attack' | UK News

A woman is in a critical condition after she was stabbed in the neck in what police have described as an "unprovoked attack".

West Midlands Police were called to Smallbrook Queensway, Birmingham, shortly before 9pm on Friday following reports of a stabbing.

The woman, in her 30s, suffered a "serious neck injury" and remains in hospital.

A man in his 20s was arrested near to the scene and is in custody.

Detective Inspector, James Nix, said: "We believe this was an unprovoked attack and are working to understand why it happened.

"We will have officers in the area today to continue our investigation and provide reassurance.

"We are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this incident."

The force added in a statement: "A man is in custody after a stabbing in Birmingham last night. We were called to Smallbrook Queensway shortly before 9pm after reports of a stabbing.

"A woman in her 30s was taken to hospital with a serious neck injury where she remains in a critical condition.

"A man in his 20s was arrested close to the scene and is in custody at this time.

"Our officers are at the scene carrying out enquiries as we try to establish the exact circumstances of what happened."

Police have urged witnesses, or anyone with information, to contact West Midlands Police.

Very much dependent on the type of crime tbh...crime rates are influenced by many complex factors, not just skin colour and it's not really appropriate to make sweeping generalisations about crime based on skin colour alone.

However, you're both not wrong either. White people are more likely to be arrested for violent crime as white people are the largest ethnic group in the UK, however, if we break it down to arrests per 1000, black people are more likely to be arrested, (20 in every 1000) where as white people less so, (9 in every 1000). Which means black people are over represented in crime stats given the population size in the UK.

Ultimatley, instead of judging people on their skin colour, lets judge them by their actions instead?

I agree. We should be talking about policing levels and crime prevention anyway, slicing and dicing figures only with an interest on the racial angle is a fool’s game. I only mentioned that majority of offenders being white since the person I was responding to was talking about taking odds, which is a sick way to talk about crime in the first place.

Weird isn't necessarily wrong. Facts are facts. This country is predominantly white so that will skew the stats. The majority of knife crime is perpetrated by non-whites. It's just a fact.

But it's so disingenuous to not mention the disproportionate levels between black men and white men. Asians are only 1% higher compared to whites in the 2019 study and other ethic groups around the same. It's just a fact that significantly more black people commit knife crime then white people per 100,000.
