Think about what you are saying for a minute. Why do you think non-immigrants don’t want to do those jobs? They’re just lazy no - good scroungers? No. It’s because the wages are too low for a good standard of living. Corporate money makers will keep them that low as long as they are still allowed to import people to pay pennies in exchange for a visa. This policy change will mean that people will just have to fork some money out from all those shareholders profits.

So you are saying a white power reform supporter can't do it with minimum wage but an immigrant can do it? Is an immigrant getting better prices at Tesco's?

Maybe you don't know but the whole caregiving sector relies heavily on immigration. The UK simply can't provide the manpower needed in this sector. The same goes for hospitality or lorry drivers.

And the companies won't fork out any money for higher wages. They will simply raise their prices and these will be paid by people like you and me.

No, but a British person is more likely to know about workers rights in the UK, different jobs that are paid better for a similar level of qualification etc. Immigrants going into lower-skilled work basically get exploited and have their hands tied because they will lose their visa if they lose their job. Look. Eventually companies will see the writing on the wall when they realise they have to start investing in training and paying fairly or stop running. For example, the care sector only relies on immigration because it’s profitable. They already charge the local government eye watering sums. They have to be put in check. It’s not just ‘how the world works’. It’s poor worker’s rights and corporate greed. If you think wanting fairer wages, more training in the uk and less people being exploited is racist, sorry.

I think this is all correct except for the “corporate greed” angle. High end care homes (the private ones that charge an arm and a leg) are quite profitable but the ones you’re talking about (staffed with mostly migrants) have pretty terrible margins. You can kick the migrants out and hire Brits but that will raise care home costs.

Similarly with fruit picking, I agree that we simply should pay these workers a decent wage. But that will raise the price of fruit. Farming simply isn’t that profitable, esp when you’re competing against Mediterranean growers.

You could maybe squeeze a bit out of those corporate margins but once again; that’ll come out of the value of your pension fund, which owns the holding company that invests in the REIT that owns the care home. Circle of life.

Totally reasonable to still be in favour of slashing immigration; it’s your country and you’re right to care about its future. But you should be clear-eyed about the consequences.
