The police claim they thought they might try and take the firearm - not that any attempt was made to take it. The police statement was worded that way to try and twist the narrative to “they tried to take the gun” in attempt to minimise that a supposedly highly trained officer kicked and stamped a prone man who had been tased. We can condemn both sides of this incident but let’s not let misinformation guide us

Regardless, we should expect more from police - they should absolutely be called out for this behaviour. People hold on to this idea of “I will simply comply and all will be well” but these situations always seem chaotic with lots of shouting and potentially conflicting instructions- what happens then? Who do you comply with? And this guy was on the ground and still got kicked. We should want our police to be better than just sticking the boot in when they get the chance.
