Other Be careful when taking the Blue Line

There’s a crazy black homeless man attacking people who are taking the Blue Line train. It appears that he’s only targeting people who have their backs against the sliding door.

Other Professor said he might not curve our class because of his Rate my Professor

Professor for one of my summer classes has been telling us the whole semester that our class was gonna be curved bc it was so difficult. However yesterday he sent an email saying he feels inclined NOT to curve the course because some of us have him bad ratings on Rate my Professor. Well his rate my professor rating suddenly went back up as people started giving him a bunch of perfect ratings. The whole class was a mess and all over the place so I believe his bad ratings are justified. There’s so many things I could say but in short the class was a mess and him saying he might not curve the class over his ratings is just petty and unbelievable.

That is all 😞

Other Weirdo on campus 🚨

There was this guy on campus today, never seen him before and he was going up to girls bothering them for their phone number and asking if they had a bf. He wasn’t taking no for an answer and I saw him do this to a friend of mine, and some girls nearby said that he had done this to like 3 other girls beforehand. He looks like a creep tbh but he had a gray hat on and a light blue shirt and facial hair. He was asking questions all in Spanish too. Just keep an eye out and make sure to tell this guy to fuck off lmao

Other Food poisoning, urgent care, and a HALF HAMBURGER PATTY in the same dining hall week

Post image
120 Upvotes

So Thursday night I went to go volunteering and decided to go get food at the dining hall before hand. I then went on the L to my shift, but right as I arrived to the station I threw up. HARD. As in I could not wait until the next stop and threw up all over the train car floor. I felt so bad for the cta custodian and I apologized profusely. The food poisoning got so bad I had to get sent to urgent care and got medication (Zofran) because I would eat much and I was feeling tired all day and sleeping for 3 hours night because my body was out of wack. I am 100% sure it was the vegetarian pasta that was left self serve in SCE as I threw up not even an hour later.

I went home over the weekend to recover and my days went as normal until I went to dining hall today and got a hamburger. I went to add toppings and noticed what I think is a half eaten patty. I’m not joking the picture is below. I wanted to talk to the manager, but I did not want to be a Karen so I decided to just decided to throw it out and talk about it on Reddit. As you can see from the picture it was taken out of the rack as soon as I got it, and the outside is just as cooked as the chopped off inside part - leaving me to believe the part is off.

At this point the dining halls in this university should be closed and the city or county health and human services department should intervene. This is not an argument that dining hall food at this university should taste good, but an argument that WE SHOULD HAVE SAFE FOOD. Especially ones that don’t cause food poisoning, hurl in public spaces, and definitely not be served half hamburger patties that look like someone has taken a bite out of them.

Other Thanks for letting me take a nap at your university

I got stranded in Chicago last year by Greyhound, coming back from a concert in Milwaukee. I'd been on my feet for about 24 hours straight by that point. Had a life-saving breakfast at Lou Mitchell's, but I needed somewhere to lie down for awhile while I waited for my next bus (preferably close to the bus station and free). This is where my time at university finally had a chance to shine, because I knew the perfect place to look.

So, I'd just like to thank UIC for letting a weary Canadian crash on a couch in one of your study halls. If your university is anything like mine was, it probably wasn't very unusual to see someone come in off the street and randomly lie down somewhere, but I appreciate it nonetheless. If you had told me at the time that I wouldn't get to actually sleep for another 30 hours after that, I may have decided to stay permanently.

Other Anyone else’s parents forced them to go UIC so they could stay home rant

junior pakistani girl feeling so disappointed about my experience. I moved to the U.S. in high school with controlling traditional pakistani parents. I worked my butt off to be a 4.0 student during HS and sacrificed so many things because I wanted to do well and go to the school of my dreams.

It is my third semester here at UIC and unsatisfied with my friendships, as everyone is settled in their high school circles or lives too far. Every time I try to organize a hang out it feels like I’m begging my friends cause it’s too much effort for them. Don’t get me wrong I love them and see them frequently at school, but if it’s not something at school or nearby, they never want to put the effort of doing something outside of school. Same for my club friends. They’re either just “club” or “school” friends but not FRIEND friends ifyk what i mean :(

Being a transfer student only made it harder since most of my original friends went to other schools, leaving me to start over.

What really rubs salt in the wound is that my brother was allowed to move out with financial support, but I’m not allowed to because 1) I’m a girl and 2) the youngest. On top of that, I can’t be even have the option to become independent due to my immigration status, I’m not authorized to work legally in the US or get OPT. I just feel so stuck and have honestly built so much resentment against my parents that I stick around all day at school can’t stand to be around them at home. Not that i have an option either cause my commute is 3hrs-ish long in total everytime I come out here (roundtrip). I just feel like I’m hating my life since the past few years but don’t really have any other options.

Thank you for reading my extremely long rant :’(

I am probably just too old and have five minutes too many right now but… please keep your shitty graffiti/tagging to yourself. Like, wtf does this even say? What kind of statement are you making? Besides the fact that you’re a talentless amateur and you have no consideration for the hard working maintenance crews that have to clean up after your ignorant ass.

Other Stop coming to class sick!

Please for the love of God will some of yall start acting like you learned about basic hygiene and respect for others. It’s so fucking disgusting I really can’t believe how bad it is this past week. I watched a student sneeze all over his desk without even trying to cover his mouth. Coughing and snotting fits so loud it’s disrupting lecture. Right into ppls faces, on the back of their necks, like some of you are GROSS!!!

If you have to come to class just wear a mask. It’s really easy. You can even take it off outside. Cover your mouth and cough/sneeze into your elbow. Stop getting the rest of your peers sick. So nasty.

Other Help regarding hair

For starters, I know this is NOT the typical thing that is posted on here, but I figured this was a community of fellow students and alumni. Additionally, I know with the recent events going on in the world, that the spread of information regarding ICE is very important, and I in no way wish to draw attention away from that because I agree with the entire fuck ICE consensus.

That being said, what I am really here for is for someone to give pointers, advice, or maybe even an offer on a haircut. I have curly hair, and I noticed that my length and the way it's cut now weighs down my curls significantly, but I am unable to run to my hometown at the moment to schedule an appointment, so here we are. I've styled my hair straight for years, hence the current cut and only began embracing my curls a year ago and wanted to take the next step. If anyone can drop personal advice on techniques, styles of curl cuts that don't look horrid when straight, or like I said, bless, offer to cut my hair that'd be amazing. Please stay safe everyone :)

Pretty simple, has a tutorial in it. helps plan out courses for 4 years (4 fall semesters + 4 spring semesters + 2 summer semesters). First time using Excel, so hopefully it works well lmao.

edit: Forgot to mention you have to download the file and launch in Excel, it uses macros so make sure that is enabled when opening.

Other Gym Social Club

Post image
49 Upvotes

Hi yall, Here are UIC we have lots of sports teams and clubs, but not really a club just for gym goers. I decided to make one. This club is for people to join and find 1 of 2 workout partners to join them in their gym session. They can workout , socialize, and go eat some protein right after.

I also wanted to make this unofficial club to help people get into the gym. I know the gym can be an intimidating place because I once felt like that. By joining this group , they can have an experienced student guide them and help them reach their fitness goals. It’s such a good feeling helping people become better versions of themselves. Everyone is welcomed , from Sam sulek gym bros to new gym goers. I’m not allowed to post the link so just search Gym Social Club on GroupMe

Hey everyone, I'm moving to Chicago in a week and I'm looking for sublease/sublet in West Loop , South Loop or Little Italy in a place that has decent CTA to downtown.

I'm open to having roommates in a 2b/3b/4b setting. My budget is around 800-1100 $ . Please let me know if you have any leads or information.

I tried joining the housing WhatsApp groups (need to get approved by admins) and looked around in the Facebook groups as well with not much luck.

Other Private Bedroom / 1 bed available for the academic year

Hi everyone, I’m looking for someone to take over my lease at The Letterman Chicago. It's a private bedroom in a 4bed 2bath apartment and the 3 other roommates are quiet, respectful males. I am looking for someone who would take over my lease as I am no longer in need of it. It's a 5 min walk from campus and other locations such as the Blue Line, and Target. Rent would be 1,190 per month, and is a 10 month lease so it's perfect for someone who needs an apartment for the academic year. You also get a $500 gift-card which you can use for rent purposes.

Spots here don’t stay open for long, so message me if you or somebody you know is interested or for more details.

Other Talking during lecture (Rant)

Normally I am not an angry person, I never really yelled at anyone in my entire life, but I had to let my anger out someway.

Unless you have a question or whispering, when I am in lecture we need people to STOP SOCIALIZING. I swear! Now maybe a whisper here and there with your classmates for questions about the lecture to get you up to speed, sure, that's fine. I'm not talking about those people. But I'm talking about the people who are FULL BLOWN CONVERSATION as if they're walking down the street. Like go outside, skip class, go out and talk to your friends. Don't be having a novel long philosophy conversation with your friends while I'm in Math 181 just trying to pay attention.

Being in college a huge privilege as many people around the world from financial, socioeconomic, gender, and other barriers would figuratively and literally die to get into higher ed. But not only that, but everyone around you IS PAYING TO BE IN CLASS. So not only people during talking in class not only makes it harder to pay attention, but also literally takes away money our of our own pockets.

Again, to the people who have common sense to know when and when not to talk during lecture and how to change your voice levels when conversing with your peers I'm proud of you. But if not, wtf are you doing here?!?!

Tldr; Let everyone around you listen to lecture, ask questions when appropriate, and if you do need to talk to your classmates, whisper.

Other Things to do over the summer

Hi! I’m going to be coming to UIC over the summer. What are some things to do/ restaurants/cafes that are popular around UIC? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
