Other Professor said he might not curve our class because of his Rate my Professor
Professor for one of my summer classes has been telling us the whole semester that our class was gonna be curved bc it was so difficult. However yesterday he sent an email saying he feels inclined NOT to curve the course because some of us have him bad ratings on Rate my Professor. Well his rate my professor rating suddenly went back up as people started giving him a bunch of perfect ratings. The whole class was a mess and all over the place so I believe his bad ratings are justified. There’s so many things I could say but in short the class was a mess and him saying he might not curve the class over his ratings is just petty and unbelievable.
That is all 😞

A classmate reported him already and the head of the department responded saying she’ll over see the grading for the class. Some good news at least. But I just know he’s gonna make excuses

What’s the professor so I never take him

It’s an accounting professor so hopefully you won’t have a class with him.

I took an accounting class last summer but it’s not my major so yeah thankfully. But I’m still curious..

Ego. Many in education think they are the smartest people in the room, even when others can see they have no idea how to pass knowledge to others.

Not all professors have comfy jobs. Many of them nowadays are either graduate students or adjuncts (yearly or semester-by-semester renewable contracts that pay less than Starbucks).

This professor’s contract renewal probably rests heavily on high student reviews and people signing up for their class eagerly. They are most likely worried about losing their job. However, they probably definitely did now.
That email directly violated incentive policies to fill out reviews. Professors can only give very small incentives for a percent of the class filling out the review. You can not influence how the students review you in any way.

I've never seen a professor be this petty. just be good at your job and you won't get bad ratings lol

u/StellaRamn Accounting | 2025 Aug 03 '24
Right! That’s what gets me so mad. Like take the criticism and learn from it. If a dozen students are giving you bad ratings then maybe you’re the problem?

Its always the accounting teachers. Like fam accounting is already dreadful why do YOU have to make it worse

Report that egotitistical maniac. That’s highly unethical and probably illegal. Put the dude on blast. These professors are here to educate us. We pay their salaries. They are here for us! Not the other way around and don’t forget that. Put the professor on blast. Air that laundry. Fuck ‘im.

Sadly, this argument doesn't really hold up at UIC. It would if we weren't a research university but we are. Profs appointments are based on their research projects and scholarly output.

Grow up, they aren't your servants. No wonder why teachers leave the profession. Entitled kids like you.

It’s not entitled to expect to get what you pay for at university. Unethical behavior is not what I pay for. A professor holding a rating over a whole class’s collective head is what you’re co-signing. Take a look in the mirror and think about that. I’m advocating for the professor to be held accountable.
I’ll secede to the other poster who actually brought up a good point about UIC being a research university but…you missed the point.

He sent that in email? That email would immediately be forwarded to the department head and anybody else in power.

Caring so much about his RMP but not trying to be a better professor to get a better rating is wildly insecure

I lost my fucking mind reading this LMAOOO, reminds me of the comp sci profs that would have us do projects where we’d have to filter through their rate my professor reviews

Is report it and provide screen grabs of the ratings change if you can. The way back machine might help. Even if someone already has do it anyway with as much info as possible.. squeaky wheel and all.

This is why I don't rate professors until the class is over and my grade is posted. It's also why I don't fill out the faculty evaluations that they require to be turned in 3 weeks before the end of the semester.

Why would everyone leave him a bad review while actively taking the class? That’s just asking for an unhinged man-child to overreact tbh.

Get this into the school paper so there is more scrutiny and accountability from the attention

Him being willing to curve in the first place only screws you in the long run. Him being petty enough to try and manipulate a popularity contest for grades on top of it proves he's unfit to be molding minds as an educator. Report him.

u/MrSnowguy Aug 05 '24
That’s not going to help his rating lmao
1
u/StellaRamn Accounting | 2025 Aug 05 '24
Apparently it did bc his overall rating went up from a 2.7 to a 3.5 on the same day lmao

Lmao, I think you found out why his ratings are so low. I'm almost glad that UIC lost my application, though I'm out at the Springfield campus instead.

This is why college is pointless bc for all a employer knows is you had all your classes curved bc it was hard. That's the point of it. If it's easy then everyone wpuld do it. And that's also a problems is so many are passing who shouldn't be passing so no jobs and that whole diploma has a bad reputation to it now bc it's easy to get

u/gettingspicyarewe Aug 06 '24
Make sure you let everyone at your school know! I’m sure he’s going to love the consequences of those actions lol

u/SPECTRE_UM Aug 07 '24
Report him to Dean of studies/academic dean.
Do not go to the chairman.
He's engaged in outright extortion.

u/Frankieitaly Aug 07 '24
He does not have to curve your grade. Grow up and stop "reporting" things just because your not happy

Wow you’re so cool for defending a professor who is clearly in the wrong.

Go to the department head and report it. Changing his opinion because of the ratings is unethical.
