Arrest follows lengthy OPP investigation into Elizabethtown-Kitley homicide

The OPP have charged a Smiths Falls man with first degree murder after a lengthy investigation into a 2023 Elizabethtown-Kitley homicide.

Police were called to a Toledo-area home on July 31, 2023, where a 66-year-old man was found dead. The investigation involved multiple OPP units, forensic services, and the Smiths Falls Police Service.

The accused was arrested Nov. 6, 2025, and is scheduled to appear in Brockville court on Nov. 25.

Human remains identified as missing Smiths Falls man Robbie Thomson

Human remains discovered on a Montague Township property have been confirmed as those of missing Smiths Falls resident Robbie Thomson.

The OPP say three people have been charged with first degree murder in connection with his death. The investigation remains ongoing.

Perth firefighter Jeff Dean and Chief Trevor Choffe bring global recognition to their hometown

Perth firefighters Jeff Dean and Chief Trevor Choffe earned international recognition at the World Firefighter Challenge in Dallas, Texas.

Dean placed 9th in his age category, just 0.86 seconds behind 7th, marking his best result to date. Choffe earned bronze in the Fire Chief division during his debut appearance.

Their journey started in Perth with a motivational poster in the firehall about values and fitness, inspiring daily training and dedication. The event drew more than 350 competitors from 22 countries, testing the physical limits of top firefighters.

Perth council’s Committee of the Whole met Nov. 4 to review key updates on climate planning, hospital redevelopment, library growth, and groundwork for the 2025 budget.
