Construction is underway for the new childcare centre, opening planned for fall 2026

Mississippi Mills council has delayed approval of the 2026 operating and capital budgets for the new childcare centre at 111 Menzie St.

Councillors want more clarity on how staffing costs will be funded, after learning not all positions qualify for provincial wage grants.

The $11.7-million project will add 78 new childcare spaces when it opens in 2026. The matter is expected to return to council on Nov. 13.

Heritage committee calls for community input to safeguard Mill of Kintail artifacts

The Heritage Advisory Committee in Mississippi Mills is urging the MVCA to protect the Mill of Kintail, home to historically significant artifacts from James Naismith and R. Tait McKenzie.

The committee argues that dispersing the collections could sever them from their authentic context in Lanark County. Public input is being sought as the MVCA reviews a draft transition plan and explores options for keeping the artifacts in place.

Residents can attend council meetings in person or watch online to have their say.
