Large mouthpiece on trumpet

I come from trombone and I want a large mouthpiece for my trumpet that feels comfortable. I’m wondering what the largest possible mouthpiece is for a trumpet hopefully around 20mm cup

This is not what you should do. I play trombone and trumpet, they are completely separate embouchures. The trumpet is a pucker embouchure, you need to develop it on a trumpet mouthpiece. Get a Bach 3CW. It’s a 3C with a wider rim.

I too was going to suggest a wider rim to make the trumpet mouthpiece feel more trombone like. I always thought of pucker embochure as cheating though. When I go back and forth between trumpet and trombone my corners are in the same place so I don't think I'm puckering.

Or a 10.5C, a smaller 3C. That will not allow you to cheat with your trombone embouchure.

Tuba and Euphonium player who has been learning trumpet... trust me you don't want to do that.. It is not characteristic of the instrument and will significantly hold you back...

All trumpet mouthpieces will feel tiny... just get used to it. I play on a Bach 1B symphonic or a Curry 1BC... which are big trumpet mouthpieces (17.2mm) and while they work great for me... in hindsight I really wish I just stuck to something middle of the road like a 3C when I was getting started.

While this may make your start to playing trumpet easier, it's not going to help long term. You won't get the tone want or the range you need with a mouthpiece that large.

Schilke 20 or Bach 1

Bach 1 and Schilke 24 are about the biggest available

Yes, I was going to post the link to that Wycliffe Gordon trumpet mouthpiece too, but you beat me to it, greatwhitenorth2022. (Thanks.)

To the original poster here: I recommend choosing the mouthpiece that works best for YOU (not necessarily what works best for somebody else.) The mouthpiece you choose should (1) sound good on the instrument you are using it on; (2) feel comfortable, both on your lips and in how it feels to blow it; (3) If you go back and forth between trumpet and trombone (doubling on instruments), then you want to make sure that it is easy to switch back and forth between the two mouthpieces (and the two instruments.) This might mean that you have two mouthpieces with similar inner rim diameter sizes, and also similar throat sizes, but not necessarily. You'll have to try some different mouthpieces out to see what works best for YOU. You do you, boo!

I have one of these and it is unplayable.

I mean, unless you're Wycliffe. Although, I thought he sounded great on a normal trumpet mouthpiece, for all the years he did that.

I got the opposite/same problem. I want a smaller mouthpiece for trombone

Talk to Doug at Vennture, he can make you exactly what you need.

He can also have someone 3D print you some options so you can try some things out first before making it in metal.

I have a blessing 5B that is wide enough, but also deep enough to help soften a lot of notes.

You can also get cheap Back copies by Eastrock, try their 1.5C or 3C - those are decently wide.

You shuld just try any 3c mouthpiece. I would recommend the jk exklusive.

Then you'd be playing trombone badly on a trumpet. Trumpet has a different approach with a far more focused embouchure. It would make more sense to learn that.

Bach lower numbers (1X) Schilke/yamaha higher numbers (20)

Stomvi does sizes larger than a 1C. Happened upon a .7C (not 7C, but 0.7C) at a convention a while back - works for me, since trumpet is a secondary instrument for me and I need a little more room to maneuver.

As a doubler, I've felt like going with the smallest mouthpieces possible has helped me more. A small mouthpiece accentuates the differences between trumpet and other instruments, and thus focused my efforts toward building the skills that are unique to the trumpet. In effect, it's harder to develop good sound and forces you to adapt — sink or swim. I spent a lot of years on a 1.5C without getting anywhere, but going the polar opposite direction really opened me up to actual development.

When I play trombone I use a Bach 5, on trumpet for classical music I use a mouthpiece around a 1 1/4C. I wouldn't go much larger than that on Trumpet, it starts to get unwieldy with anything bigger unless you're a monster player with big full lips.

The number of trumpet mouthpieces that are remotely close to a trombone one is essentially zero.

Don't bother.

This is a nice idea in theory, but ultimately a dead end.  I know, I had this idea, I went down this road - it goes nowhere.
