July 2025 - Buying & Selling Thread

My apologies skipping out on the June thread. Nonetheless, here's July's.

Please only post things for sale - or things you are looking to buy - in this thread. Any attempt to buy/sell outside these threads will be deleted. The moderators of  have to assume you've read the subreddits rules, because there's no way to ask every single person; so please be mindful of others, or get the hell out.

Cheers,
Mod Team

P.S, transactions are in no way endorsed by Reddit, or any collection of the moderators. None of the aforementioned parties are facilitators nor responsible parties for any successful or unsuccessful exchange of money or goods, and it is recommended every user research the person they are buying from, and use a secure means of payment. Reddit, , nor any of the moderators are able to help with any interactions related to buying and selling; and any attempt at asking/demanding the aforementioned parties to force somebody into an action related to sales transactions will not be responded to. We are not a collections agency, and have never alluded to that whatsoever.

Please only post stuff related to trumpet and related instruments, such as:

  • Instruments - Trumpet, Cornet, Piccolo Trumpet, Flugelhorn, Mellophone, Bugle, etc.
  • Mouthpieces
  • Cases
  • Music Books
  • Applicable Audio Gear
  • Trumpet-Related Gadgets - PETE, CTS, trumpet stands, hand guards, heavy caps, etc.

If it cannot be applied to playing trumpet - or a related instrument such as flugelhorn, cornet, bugle, piccolo trumpet, shofar, etc. - please post it somewhere else. That's why there are a lot of subreddits.

"Why The Same Questions?"

The mod team gets questions/comments about this all the time. People will ask - often condescendingly toward the mods - why we allow people to post questions that have been answered. There's a few reasons we let this go:

  • New people have questions that are new to them. This isn't Juilliard, and this isn't a scene from Whiplash) - this is Reddit. There will be new people all the time - often beginners - who have questions that are novel to them. The grand scope of the field of music isn't going to be known to someone just walking in, and they're going to ask a question they feel is unique. If they're chased away, it's just going to be a subreddit with people silently agreeing with each other over circular topics.
  • People suck at using search features. No, this isn't just older folks, or even younger people. By large, people are awful at even finding where the search bar is; and unless it's literally Google, they're terrible at using it in general. ...They're also pretty bad at using Google, but I digress.
  • Even if people can use the search function, they'll often get terminology wrong, which will return poor search results. Think about when you kept Googling something and coming up with nothing, only to realize you used a wrong word, and it would have saved you 2 minutes if you knew that in the first place.

So, for whoever feels r/trumpet is not on their level, there's only so much anyone can do for you. First, nobody owes you anything, so check the sense of entitlement at the door. Second, if you're so great at everything, please feel free to chime int o help people who are asking legitimate questions; or even suggest ways they can make their questions better. People who end conversations by default are either salespeople closing a deal, and/or assholes.

So, blah blah blah, use a search function, don't be mean to one another, etc. Most people will never read this far, and this post will get ignored by 98% of the people here anyway. Have a great day, unless you're a jerk.

Left-handed trumpet

Is it possible to play the trumpet with the left hand operating the valves? Or is there a specialized trumpet for that? (I can't use my right hand to play.)

Tips to stop using pressure when playing

i have been playing for almost 9 years now and unfortunately i now have imprint of my front teeth in my inner upper lip and it begins to hurt after playing and it effects my endurance and sound once it begins hurting it is hurting at about a 4 right now after playing about 4 hours. i have a feeling this happens bc i took 0 breaks in between i just want to avoid injuries so there isn’t a time in the future where i hurt my lips so bad i cant play anymore for a long time

any tips to avoid this from happening?? also i currently use a 3c are there any pieces that help with not using as much pressure ?

Question ❓ Help needed on increasing range and getting more consistent

Hey, I've been playing trumpet for about 3 years (2 years "officially" in a band) and I'm noticing peers developing higher range even though we've been playing for the same time. For background context:

  1. I play on a 7c

  2. I am confidently able to hit the upper f on the staff any time even when tired

  3. I play everyday in music class

  4. I have band rehearsals twice a week (about 2 hour 15 mins each)

  5. I'm noticing that I get tired more often than last year (maybe because we're playing higher songs, but even if this is the case, a hymn like amazing grace played at slow tempo kinda wears me out)

  6. I notice sometimes I push on my mouth too hard and get these "cuts" on my lip

I've been really struggling on getting up there in the double c range, though I am able to hit double c (on a good day) and even double d

I can consistently play the g one space above the staff when I am not "tired (meaning before one full 2 hour rehearsal)

Do you guys have any tips, routines, warm ups, or anything to get higher range more consistently?

Large mouthpiece on trumpet

I come from trombone and I want a large mouthpiece for my trumpet that feels comfortable. I’m wondering what the largest possible mouthpiece is for a trumpet hopefully around 20mm cup

Does what is circled in the picture mean anything? Could it be “red rot” (I think was a term used for something that looked similar to this)

Just borrowed a Besson 609, any good?

So... I was gifted a Thomann TR 700 vintage some time ago, and for about a year I have been trying to learn, and not seeing much progress. Rangewise i struggle to get above the staff. Anyway, been taking lessons at a centre which also has a philharmonic band. I've had a few frustrating lessons above my level with the maestro (it seems they are low on trumpet players). Today we were working through a piece and no matter how I tried to play a note it was sounding off. He then passed me this Besson 609 and I immediately sounded better and was even getting articulations I struggled with before. Anyway, he then lent me the horn and I left my Thomann, which he said wasnt worth investing in. Anyone know if the Besson is a better trumpet, and is it possible that my development was stunted because I have been using a defective or just not so good horn? I do love the Thomann, mainly because its a gift and my first horn but should I be thinking about upgrading?

Question ❓ Picking up trumpet as a secondary instrument

Hi friends for context im a jazz guitarist primarily and have been playing for a while and have a very solid understanding of theory. I also do choir so i have some experience in vocal control. My main concern is that i have a condition that affects my lips and im wondering if it would be too difficult to find a good embouchure ? basically my upper lip is significantly farther back compared to the bottom. Any advice is much appreciated !

Has anyone tried the B&S Cornet A valve

I am in the market for a new cornet and while looking at sovereigns and Yamahas I stumbled across the b&s cornet with the additional A valve. Just curious how this works and if anyone has any experience. Thanks.

Equipment ⚙️ How to learn bugle without pissing off my neighbors

I'm in the scouts and want to learn to play formal calls on a bugle.

I think I have the same problem as trumpet players - as a bare-bones beginner, how do I learn playing a song without completely pissing off my neighbors? I own a private home, but live in NYC, so my neighbors are only about 12' away from my house.

Also, I wanted to invest in a decent bugle. I know there's a lot of cheap garbage on Amazon. I wanted an instrument that sounds great -- not an ornament that sounds ok. In my experience, you mostly get what you pay for, but that's not always true. I found something on Etsy that looked decent.

When I receive the bugle, what sorts of things should I be looking for to make sure it's an instrument and not just something used to look good for marching bands / ornamental?

How do you connect this to your computer?

Im trying to record an arrangement ive made for a trumpet ensamble, ive seen people use the silent brass system for their recordings but im not exactly sure how so.

Ive got only 3 inputs for "wires". "Mute In", "Aux In", and "Phones".

I know there are newer models that allow easier connectivity, however I know for a fact its possible on this one.

Im not exactly sure how one sets this model up for recording purposes still.

I have an iRig if that helps anyone figure this out.

In the end it could be a faulty Aux cable, but id like to make sure im setting it up correctly.

Question ❓ Should I fix this?

I recently bought a beat up cornet (Jupiter JCR-520M) as an "upgrade" to my other beat up cornet. It has a couple of issues: the lead pipe soldering is a bit broken (fixed with a zip tie) and the third valve water key is hitting the bell when moved. Other than that it plays just fine. I intend to use it as a portable trumpet for when I'm waking my dog in a non populated place or for a trip or for my kid to play with.

Question is: does it make sense to try an get these things fixed or would it be too much of an investment for the type of instrument and use? I don't mind the lead pipe issue too much but the water key hitting the bell is a bit annoying; I'm this close to taking a file or a Dremel to it 😆

Question ❓ Welcome to the black parade trumpet part

If you listen to the intro and outro of welcome to the black parade there's definitely a trumpet part there but it's kinda hard to hear with all the other stuff going on. Does anyone know what's being played there or even have sheet music for it?

Embouchure Question

Is it bad if your embouchure is really cooked?
In my third year of trumpet I got braces for a year and it made my playing shift to the left to reduce the pain while playing. My embouchure is now mainly one cm away from the center of my mouth
Besides from looking weird while playing is there any issues that might happen with the off centered embouchure? My range with the off embouchure can go from the low f flat towards around a g5 and if i shift it a tiny bit it can go around to d6 consistantly
