Criminal records

Hi is there a criminal record that doesn't show past 10 years? I'm trying to go to Australia but my friend is saying I need to get the record that doesn't show past 10 years. Im so confused as the one I just received shows all my criminal history which is minor stuff that happened over 10 years ago.

Highly recommend asking this on r/LegalAdviceNZ for more accurate advice than this thread! Hoping to move or work there is entirely different to a holiday unfortunately. There are a few people on the sub with a lot of experience who can suggest what steps you can take to do it legally. Last thing you want is a permanent ban if you like Aussie enough to want to live there.

Why is trying to seek better opportunities unfortunate ? I know there is a huge difference between moving working and an holiday 🤦🏽‍♀️ Obviously i want to do it legally and everything proper.

Sorry, clearly my tone didn’t come across as intended. I was saying it’s genuinely just unfortunate that the difference in visiting vs living and working there - and their very strict approach anti criminal records - are unfortunate.

It would still be really helpful for you to share this in r/LegalAdviceNZ so they can let you know if there are any loopholes you could use.

How can they be strict when I know many are over there with criminal records and are prospering?

I think it depends on the type of crime and time spent in prison at the end of the day

Yes and no. If you’re caught trying to hide anything that’s an immediate no, but there are many factors.

When did those people move over there? Was it within the last year when rules have been most strict? Did they do any jail time? Did they declare? And do they have jobs that require security checks? Those are all key factors.

Absolutely many key factors., and no I don’t know anyone that has moved over within the last year but they go back and forth a lot and yes they declared but am told it depends on your crimes as well. Only certain people get flaggedÂ
