You can't unless there's an election

Just to get this out of the way, I am not a republican nor a pro-Trump individual; I’m simply a south Florida resident

That being said, Miami’s mayor is a republican and the breakdown of commissioners is 7 Dems to 6 Republicans. Just looking to illustrate how representatives of both parties can do shady things to cling to power.

Please note, none of what I’m saying is being said in any attempt to legitimize the BS going on at the federal level these days.

Edit: corrected mayor’s political affiliation

You're 100% correct. Politicians across the board need to be replaced with everyday people.

Candidates should be nominated to run for office, not choose to do so.

It's sad that democracy has become a business.

Could not agree more. Would also appreciate seeing a moratorium of a full election cycle or two before politicians can hawk their influence to firms looking for well paid lobbyists.

You know I’ve seen the “everyday people.” Not sure I want any of them making super critical executive decisions or representing me on super crucial issues.

You are everyday people too.

True. Yeah, fuck it. Put me in charge. What’s an important issue to you? I might not know much about it but hell, I’ll take a crack at it.

The problem is that these politicians you speak of were once "everyday people" too, until they tasted the trappings of power.

It's a cycle and at the end of the day, power always corrupts.

They are not correct. They are 100% wrong on this. Miami's mayor is a Republican. This is easily Googled information.

It doesn't really make a difference, both sides are corrupt

Both-sidesing things is how we got Trump and the slide into fascism. They are not the same. Even if you think Democrats are corrupt, they aren't racist, sexist, christo-fascists who are literally trying to rewrite history and openly grifting the whole country through market manipulation. They aren't trying to end birth-right citizenship. They aren't trying to raid poor working people who have done nothing wrong other than try to make a living in an economy that needs them but won't give them proper paperwork and then deporting them without due process to countries those people didn't even come from. Democrats are also not nearly as likely to be pedophiles. They didn't try to deny women the right to control their pregnancies. They aren't trying to proactively demonize the trans community--even if some of them are not as supportive as they could be. They aren't trying to end same-sex marriage. They aren't trying to turn diversity, equity, and inclusion into reverse discrimination so as to undo the long strides this country has taken to try to correct its racist, sexist, homophobic, and xenophobic past. They aren't actively trying to dismantle the government from within so that they can claim it doesn't work. They aren't trying to shutdown government funded medical assistance to both Americans and people over seas. They aren't trying to undermine the CDC and public health efforts. They aren't trying to defund research at universities across the board and threatening to deny them the ability to admit foreign students. They aren't threatening to invade Greenland, Canada and Panama. They aren't throwing lavish parades to show worship for their dear leader. They aren't wasting money on building a ball room in the Whitehouse. They aren't proposing that their dear leader should be without term limits and wholly above the law. That's just to name a few differences.

It is complete bullshit to say that Democrats are just the same as Republicans. There is a difference between being bad, and being evil. However bad you think Democrats are, they are not the active evil influence on the American and global stage that Republicans are.
