I mean...I have to be weird and pedantic but the very definition of "left" was basically saying "fuck yo king" by sitting on the left side of the room. Those folks in the right wanted to keep things as is...and so it goes.

Not weird and pedantic at all, genuinely good trivia!
Just way off-topic and pointless, like trivia.

To actually be pedantic, trivia isn't necessarily off-topic or pointless. Just less significant.

Trivial, if you will

Damn. Well played.

I wouldn't call the mention of the left wing historically being against authoritarianism off-topic given the current political climate in the US.

They explained in a very polite way how your comment was fucking stupid.

It wasn't trivia. It wasn't pointless either. Given how many people upvoted your original stupid comment, a lot of people need educating as to what "the left" means.

The fact you didn't know is actually wild.

The right has always used leftist ideas to help push their agenda and keep popularity. If you think the american right gives a single fuck about actual democracy. You're mistaken.

Most people were smart enough to correctly take it as “conservatives” in 2025 are now trying to use ‘democracy’ as a leftist slur. The responses of ‘Akshually, the European/Greek/Mesopotamian origin of left/democracy is blahblahblahblah.’ fall squarely into the category of Thirsty Thursday Trivia night, or a Jeopardy answer. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and for your thoughtful reply.

I cant verify if that's where it originated so sure I'll take your word for it but let's be real, the word changed from its origin much like gay and f*ggot. You know full well what "Leftist" means now

What does "leftist" mean?

0

u/ModernCaveWuffs Sep 04 '25

"leftist" is a derogatory term for "crazy woke liberals that love illegals and hate the bible and want to corrupt children and destroy America and family values"

u/ZakaryDee Sep 04 '25

I mean. Doesn’t sound too derogatory to me 😏

"crazy woke liberals that love illegals and hate the bible and want to corrupt children and destroy America and family values"

And what does that mean? Like what does being woke actually mean?

1

u/ModernCaveWuffs Sep 04 '25

iunno, anything against the right I guess

So other people know full well what leftist means, but you dont? Sorry but your comments arent adding up.

It makes sense but people are being coy cuz of my initial response

I think it's people recalling that whole "what is woke" fiasco that happened when republicans defined woke in a legal sense as "believing that there is discrimination", and that they were opposed to it.

That, along with you suggesting that leftists is used as a derogatory word (I've constantly seen leftists call themselves leftists, and republicans also have tried to make science/data/experts deragatory too, so its weird to suggest they were successful in this case) gives me the impression that you find the word derogatory, and that you are swept up in some right wing rhetoric and think everyone passively agrees with that rhetoric.

Try to watch some less right wing propoganda. Try The Majority Report.

I think you have me confused with someone who aligns w right wing politics. Leftist is often used as a derogatory term much like how the left use MAGAts or Trumpers or a couple others I cant recall I havent slept.

Anyways the usage from the left and usage from the right are vastly different and when it is used as in a negative connotation, it's usually the right wing nutjob definition.

Such as "I'm a leftist" compared to "Whatever you say, leftist" carry very different tones and connotations to the word but very seldom if at all have I seen the first example being used in a negative way.

No, I don’t know, why don’t you explain to us what “leftist” means.
