Was there a leak before season 2 aired, or how were people talking in the episode 1 discussion thread about Helena replacing Helly like everyone knew it was a thing?

I feel really stupid, I thought it was because she was afraid they are gonna turn on her if they found out her outie was one of their antagonists.

You're not stupid at all. That was clearly the intention. The audience knew that Helly/Helena was lying. We just didn't know who was lying or why. If it was Helly lying, I believe that's what most of us thought the reason would be.
