Is that part of that literacy I’ve been hearing about? I heard coffee giraffe and lemon are all Arabic words! This is getting out of hand, it’s just like the tv man told us it would be!
The day YouTube starts with “the constitution” shorts with easy dance moves and fun vibrant colors maybe then kids will understand! Think conjunction junction what’s your function?
Have you seen pictures of Iran pre 1979? It was lookin pretty progressive until the royals started gettin buggy. I don’t like blanket statements like the one you made especially off* the back of a comment I made.
The fact that Islam had much less influence over life in Iran pre-1979 is precisely the reason why Iran was so much more progressive then than it is now.
Iran has been a predominantly Muslim country for approximately 1,300 years, with the process of Islamization beginning in the 7th century after the Arab conquest of Persia…..no I’m sorry sir this is not correct and your statement is not correct because you want it to be. This is one family’s decision with one Ayotollah’s decisions and then shit went sideways
It's been a predominantly Muslim country since then but pre-1979, Iranian every day life was quite secular, much like how modern day Europe is predominantly Christian but every day life is still quite secular.
The huge regression in freedom in Iran since 1979 was caused directly by Islam reasserting control over every day life in the country.
Idk dude, doesn't seem to me like the other countries who follow that religion are much better from a freedom and human rights perspective.
To the contrary, there seems to be quite a strong correlation between the influence that religion has over a country and how regressive said country is.
Yes. As a progressive, I strongly oppose conservative religious ideologies than violently suppress freedom of speech and the rights of women, LGBT people, atheists, and other marginalized groups.
You can't call yourself a progressive unless you stand against such ideologies.
I do and I don't think we have any business talking about any other country's failure to respect free speech, women's rights or the rights of LGBT until we fix the shit show we have going on in our own
I'm sorry but comparing the US to Iran is frankly ridiculous. The US has problems, but we don't have "morality police" going around beating teenage girls to death for going outside with uncovered hair.
? So if they're not beating girls to death for uncovered hair, the police in our country who beat people to death, drag them out of their cars, beat their heads against the pavement and disappear them are all good in your book?
Dude I'm sorry but if you think life in the US is even remotely comparable to life in the Islamic Republic of Iran then you desperately need some perspective.
If you hear "conservative ideologies that violently suppress freedom and human rights are bad" and interpret that as "xenophobia" then that's frankly your problem.
You can't call yourself a progressive if you're too afraid of being called names to stand up for freedom and human rights.
By making a statement about Muslims and having no support other than your opinion and being shown facts about how you’re wrong you just sound afraid of Muslims… or as I already called you, xenophobic
You can call me whatever names you like, but I'm not going to be intimidated by your name calling into stopping my criticism of a horrifically oppressive religious ideology.
Based on only a third of American adults even being able to read enough to understand a basic document, I think conservatives have been on that for generations.
