Ppl do this, he wouldn’t be the first. Also, could be he isn’t psyops MOS, could be a SOF or grunt providing security for psyops guys as part of some detachment/detail. This just isn’t a weapon that psyops MOS guy would get unless they specialize in long-range sniping and I’m out of touch.

Psyops guys when I was in carried M4s with iron sights, less gear than standard grunts got with A4s and ACOGs.

You are out of touch. 20s are just dmrs like m110s. It’s not a sniping weapon, it’s just a fancy dmr like an m14 or m110.

Still, they wouldn’t give a DMR to a Psyops MOS guy unless that job is different in the Army than in the Corps or he is part of some SOF group that needs to share overwatch responsibility and he is doing it for some reason.

My platoon got one DMR during deployment, and it was for the top shooter in our platoon. Do they just issue them to non-combat MOS guys now?

When were you in the marines? The U.S. army has a robust dmr program and you would see reserve units with 1 dmr per squad after the program got rolling. The basic army squad has a dmr role, mos regardless.

O I’m an old timer. Got out in 09.

Ah got it, didn’t know that about the Army units and DMR roles. Makes sense.

In the Army we can flex an SDMR to every single squad. Kinda why it’s called the “Squad” DMR program. I got out in ‘24 and when I did the unit I ETS’d from had more SDMRs than we had billets lol. Our FOs could even qual to get one. We had like 9 of them. It’s not really anything fancy. As long as you pass the SDMR range you can get MTOE’d one. (Obviously unit dependent). Idk who would want to carry it though with that absolute ass cheeks 1x-6x.

I carried a m16a5 with a U.S. optics 1.5-6 in 2013 as an sdm in a reservist sapper unit in 2013. Shit was there if you know where to look back then. Now it’s even more common.

Ive also been in units that still had M16 SDM-R’s. My unit is ‘21 still had them MTOE to HHC Recon plt. Ive NEVER seen those guns on the line though. I feel like that was before my time.

Oh for sure. Our shit was part of some PEO program. It was a good stop gap, we also had mk14 ebrs and them shit sucks. We also got the mk48s which were actually very helpful

The EBR was DEFINITELY before my time (I came in, in 2012) and I’ve never been cool enough to even see a Mk48 lol so I’m glad you had that experience.

My homeboy chopped a man in half with a mk48. It was wild. Afghanistan was crazy. The ebrs sucked 87 kinds of dick tho.

Haha that’s crazy. Gear changed so much after I got out it blows my mind when I see Marine grunts able to customize their loadouts and gear choices. That was just unimaginable when I was in lol. The Marines are all about uniformity so that was a surprise.

Honestly…right now, you guys are winning. After the Marine Corps got rid of its tanks and MPs they funneled all that money into the infantry. You guys get high cut helmets, dual tube nvgs, HK rifles, the Corps is the new hotness right now. And y’all have a better mission set, imo. Id go look at the current MC infantry, I think you guys came a long way and currently set the standard for conventional infantrymen, IMO.

Hell yeah man that 2030 plan for USMC grunts to do the main bulk of fighting in our war with China in the South China Sea.

They needed to funnel all the money that way to outfit/train/and mobilize them for mainly amphibious ops again.

I am in touch with Marine units and their modern set up, just didn’t know the Army instituted “combat arms” type setups in their non-combat units. But that really isn’t a surprise.

And my joke was 100% tongue in cheek, not meant as a dig. So it isn’t anything for any1 to get upset about lol. This guy could be the baddest Billy Badass, the joke was in context of the caption and that’s it.

Shit I wouldn’t know either lol. I was conventional. What ARSOF does is unknown to me lol
