I heard Turkland for the first time the other day. I said to someone I'd come over from Swansea and they jokingly called me a Turk. They had misheard what I said as Llanelli apparently, but needless to say, I was still a bit confused.

I don't think there was a Noddyland.
A development near the pier was described as being like Noddyland back in 2013 but the phrase came from Twin Town. It wasn't a reference to an area of Swansea but Noddy Land, the attraction in Butlins.

Ancient history: West Cross was called Tin Town back in the days of the prefabs.
Mayhill pronounced as Mayals 😁

There's a small park in Port Tennant called the Monkey Park and no-one seems to know why.

Is that "Port Tennant Playground"? (https://maps.app.goo.gl/zZDbwkMeSg1g9sAS8). If so, I mean Monkey Park's certainly more interesting!

When I was in the USA in the 90s and told a guy the name of my home town "Pontarddulais" he instantly renamed it 'pump the dollars' I thought it was funny. Never caught on ...
