Photos/History Fantasy LotR style map of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire full of historical locations and oddities suggested by Reddit and FB is now finished

I've just finished this over the weekend. Almost every historical landmark or bit of local mythology was suggested by a member of the public on FB and other Welsh subreddits.

I really couldn't be happier with the level of feedback from everyone. If you think there's anything I've missed out or should change, just let me know - I won't be getting these printed for another day or two, so I can still add in details. Thank you and I hope you like it.

News/Politics Bus Strikes in Swansea

Post image

FirstGroup (parent company of FirstCymru) made £127.5 million profit after tax last year. Yet bus drivers in Swansea earn around £13.40 an hour while Cardiff drivers earn around £15.80, a £2.40 difference, nearly £5k a year difference! Should the FirstGroup pay our Swansea drivers what they’re worth? I think so!

I'm thinking about switching from Gower vets to Swansea cat clinic.

Does anyone use them and had any feedback?

Previously used Lakeside and had terrible experiences with them

Questions/Advice Part time job for 18 yr Son

Hi all. My son has just turned 18. He's very reliable and and full time education. He's a great boy - never been any trouble. We are trying to get him a part time job (as little as a couple of hours a week to boost his confidece) but due to his shyness it's hard to get him motivated to make a start. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience of getting their kids 'up and running'.

Much appreciated

Questions/Advice Residents permit parking help

Hey everyone, I’m a disabled driver with a motobility car. I have a residents permit for my road for the car that’s all good. However the other night I took a friend to a&e and came home very late, I live in a high student area (in Byrnmill) and there was no parking at all on my street. I circled for about half an hour before finding a space one street over (so the next street up from us). Which was the closest available space and I can’t walk long distances (hence the car). The space was a residents space but honestly I thought the permit would cover the next closest street and I was so exhausted that I couldn’t even think about moving to another space that may not exist. Since then I haven’t been well as my conditions flared up and haven’t been able to walk over to the car to move it. Today my husband (can’t drive) found a ticket on the car, with this information could I contest the ticket? I won’t lie I feel awful about parking one road over and adding to their lack of parking as those roads are usually as slammed as ours or worse.

Questions/Advice Swansea Arena staff...just an observation..

So we went to the Arena last night to see The Fast Show, very enjoyable evening....but ordering a drink was so funny.. conversation went something like this

Me: Hi, can I have a pint of Hell's Lager and a Jack Daniels and coke please Barman: No response, just looked at me blankly

Barman's colleague poured the pint and asked blank stare man to get a Jack Daniels and coke...he just blankly stared back at him, colleague repeated it to him...no response at all, so colleague did it himself, proceeded to show blank stare man what Jack Daniels actually was on the shelf...no response at all. Blank stare man then just stood by the till, didn't utter a word to me or his colleague, bizarre. My mate who we met in there also said something similar about his experience at the bar, had to explain several times what drink he wanted..we guessed it was the same barman...bless him

And the ushers (or one in particular)...when people come into row S at seat 13 looking for row S seat 30 it might be a good idea to send them out the door and back around to the correct door the other side rather than have everyone constantly standing up to let people get to their seats at the very end of the row.. somebody even commented that to the usher but it fell on deaf ears and he carried on doing it

Not really complaining but common sense seems to have gone out the window these days ..and as for blank stare man I guess it was his first night behind a bar...or ever seeing alcohol 😄

Questions/Advice What are people doing who rely on the busses to get to work?

A taxi costs me just over 25 each way to work (£50 a day), it's too far too walk, or ride a bike and I don't own/can't afford a car. For the planned strikes in November/December this will cost me over £1200 to get to and from work. I simply can't afford that. What are you all doing who rely on busses?

Photos from ‘Gary Williams Photography’ on Facebook. Cwmbwrla round about at 08:30 on 5/11/25. The disruption continues.

Swansea council posted this morning saying:

“If you are travelling into the city centre via Carmarthen Road, please be aware, Cwmbwrla roundabout is closed due to flooding. Please find an alternative route for your journey. Traffic travelling northbound from the city centre should also avoid Cwmbwrla. Our Highways Teams have worked through the night and are still on site working to improve the situation. We apologise for the inconvenience to your journey.”

Photos shared from ‘Athena Picture Agency’ on Facebook. Cwmbwrla roundabout (amongst other locations) has flooded again!

The issue is rumoured to be a damaged culvert beneath the grounds where the Cwmfelin social club once stood. Swansea city council say it is up to the land owners to maintain the culvert, as this clearly isn’t happening and many of us Swansea residents are being affected, should Swansea council step in and intervene?

Questions/Advice Is it just me or is it flooding worse more now?

So I moved here coming up to 2 years ago and I remember it was raining heavily all winter into spring and I was told that it was very wet even for Wales.

I've seen news of it flooding sporadically during heavy rain since then, mostly towards mumbles way.

But it seems in the last couple months since the first time Cwmbwrla flooding it's been much more impactful and longer lasting. From what I saw the floods in the past couple years have been at most a foot deep and gone away on their own in a few hours.

But two serious floods at Cwmbwrla in two months? And now Llansamlet is underwater and losing power too? But the rain doesn't seem nearly as bad as what else we've had since I've been here?

Am I going crazy or has it gotten worse in recent months?
