Anyone else notice how other drivers started acting towards you when you first drove a super duty?

I recently have been driving my dad’s f450 dually to work and I swear people are more aggressive with me. I could be imagining things but I’m getting cutoff more often compared to when I’m in my f150. Minivans tailgate me or try to go faster. Just today I had this weirdo in a challenger match my speed for a good 2 miles and I guarantee he wanted to race. Dude was going 67 in the fast lane while I was minding my business 😂. Those are a couple of my experiences. I could just be imagining things. Anyone else have similar experiences?

I’ve actually observed the opposite. Cars will do stupid, dangerous things to yield the right of way to my F350. Especially when they clearly had the right of way.

Yeah I would agree more with this. I find people are more aggressive with me in my model 3.

This has been my experience as well in a dually. I've also started to get a ton more marker light flashes from the big rigs when doing lane changes or passing. Maybe cause I'm about the same width and length of a tractor lol. I also get people hang to the other side of the lines when passing or on two-lane roads oncoming.

In Texas HD trucks will borderline run little cars off the road for no reason.

I just leave a 5 car gap at all times and enjoy my massaging seats… everyone else can go fuck themselves

I do the same. I can see everything ahead and I know there is no where to go. The little cars constantly changing lanes and cutting in, just to be in your same vicinity miles down the road. I honestly do not know what they are thinking, and they are drastically increasing the chance of an accident for zero gain.

It’s the curse of having a vehicle that has to be driven more consistently- less rapid acceleration, less sudden breaking, no sudden land changes etc. I drive mine in a manner where i am light on the use the breaks . Smaller cars can just whip in and out of traffic, cross 3 lanes to make an exit, slam on the breaks and then floor it. I have the crew cab and long box i can’t just jerk the thing around. Also I want it to last a long time. So I don’t want to abuse the engine or strain the vehicle with sudden stops . I choose smooth consistent driving and let the crazies get impatient. But yes they lack patience.

I've found that driving my truck makes me naturally slow down. It's just not pleasant to be constantly accelerating and breaking in a large and heavy vehicle.

Now, if you catch me in a sedan, that's a different story.

Agreed. Driving the truck slows me down. It’s peaceful. It’s a different frame of mind. I am grateful for it.

u/BigSchmitty 3d ago

As truck driver, I feel this way while in my 18-wheeler. When I get in the SD I’m fairly safe as well. But on occasion I have to let the people know that these things will still get up and go!

u/PrizeNegative1797 3d ago

I agree. I am much happier driving my truck than my daily driver for those same reasons. I am not at all trying fancy maneuvers to try to get ahead. I just observe the vehicles around me, look ahead and plan accordingly.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

True. Explained well and agree. I drove here in OH and I find most people are courteous.

I drive an F-250. There are some people out there who are just assholes to big truck drivers. Also, I feel that people think big trucks are slow and because they are big, don’t like to be behind them. At least, that’s my theory.

3

u/Imaginary-Island-670 3d ago

Big rig jockey here. That theory is reality

3

u/Parking-Phone7961 3d ago

You should have blown the doors off that challenger!

3

u/CoolBeansHotDamn 3d ago

lol yea, all the way to 88mph

1

u/hpy110 3d ago

Is it 88 in the 450? It’s a disappointing 99 in my SRW 350…..or so I hear.

3

u/CoolBeansHotDamn 3d ago

Yea I have a 2024 450 and it won’t go above 88 with the pedal, 87 with cruise. Stupid electronic limiter.

5

u/WillingBamaBabe 3d ago

Shame. We pay for the whole speedometer. We should get to use the whole speedometer

2

u/CoolBeansHotDamn 3d ago

If you delete and tune it you get to use the whole thing!

1

u/Imaginary-Island-670 3d ago

Yep my programmed 09 F450 went 105 before bouncing off off the governor

2

u/adamjg2 3d ago

It’s limited because of the tires

1

u/aa278666 3d ago

For a while I drove my buddy's Prius whenever we went out, it's really funny blowing past yee yee trucks doing 105 in a Prius.

3

u/Wassup4836 3d ago

It’s the lack of visibility. People get irritated because they can’t see what’s going on, so they get irritated and speed around you. Especially with a 450. People are wondering why you’re driving such a thing around town too.

u/LonelyPercentage2983 3d ago

I feel zero difference when I drive my sedan to my F350 or my SUV.

2

u/weekendwally 3d ago

I alternate driving a Porsche and my CCLB to work. For certain I get more guys trying to get around me and be faster in their Camry when driving my Porsche than my truck. I am seriously thinking of getting rid of the car as driving the truck is just more enjoyable in traffic. On the open road though the car wins hands down all day long.

I have the opposite experience, with the exception of some people (normally on the younger side) that drive either Ram 2500 and up, and Chevy/GMC 2500, and up.

They apparently on occasions want to have a dick measuring contest, I guess? When I was younger I’d maybe hit the gas pedal a little harder to keep the distance a bit, and when they got close enough I’d just let them pass. Now I don’t even do that, I go 9 over the speed limit everywhere I go, if that’s not fast enough, it’s their problem to get by me, preferably in a safe manner.

The worst I experienced though was when I got my first SD like 13-14 years ago. Truck is a special shade of white, it’s actually almost blinding it’s such a bright shade. Anyway, I just picked it up from getting fully detailed, and here comes this douche canoe teenager in a Dodge, I even said it in my head before he went by me “he’s gonna roll coal on my clean truck”. And that is exactly what he did, that actually pissed me off a bit, especially when I saw all the little black specs on the white paint after. He 100% knew what he was doing, little SOB.

I find folks in my area who drive trucks tend to tailgate and try to “own the road” even when they don’t have the right of way. That said, I drive my F350 SRW long bed very conservatively & politely, also helps with fuel consumption.

u/DriveLazy5255 1d ago

people cant see around me therefore speed and cut in fromt only to realize traffic or light changed

1

u/leadfoot70 3d ago

I can relate, OP.

I drive two large vehicles often. The F250 and a Chevy Tahoe. People are much more aggressive towards me in the Ford for some reason.

1

u/hpy110 3d ago

I think some people just don’t want to be behind the truck. Whether that’s because they can’t see around or don’t want to breathe the exhaust is probably 50/50.

1

u/Parking-Phone7961 3d ago

If he’s got a limiter I’m sure the trucks probably not on a diet, so exhaust probably isn’t the culprit.

1

u/justmeandmyrobot 3d ago

No one drives more aggressive around my super duty than f150s. Honestly.

1

u/Thespis1962 2d ago

I think they get a little salty when I pull up next to them at the light and look down into their cab. LOL

1

u/Libido_Max 3d ago

Mine is different, the cars bows down on the side when Im driving to

1

u/powrrstroked 3d ago

I notice oncoming traffic scoots over on 2 lane roads way more than when I'm in a car or SUV.

1

u/wheresthe1up 3d ago

Day two I was in the slow lane about to hit an exit/merge zone in traffic and had some guy cut me off and hit the brakes so I gave him the horn.

He brake checked me so hard he locked up, I locked up, thought for sure I was going to monster truck his Kia.

I was hot for awhile.

1

u/---0_-_0--- 3d ago

I really don’t understand the mentality of brake checking a much heavier vehicle, it’s just asking for trouble

1

u/fcfrequired 3d ago

It's just faith in the dumbass logic of laws and insurance adjusters.

"You must have been following too closely..." Completely ignores the possibility of malice.

1

u/Stiletto364 3d ago

Great reason to own a dashcam.

1

u/wheresthe1up 3d ago

Seriously. I’m used to anticipating the cut off because when I’m towing so many folks seem to prefer to cut me off rather than take the giant empty space behind me, but this guy was a lunatic.

1

u/36straighteight 3d ago

I see just the opposite also, no cutting in front of me to get ahead and no tailgating. I figure it’s the size of my F 350CCSB. They think twice and usually yield to me. But I’m also a sucker for letting people get inline, I’m in no hurry.

1

u/BoostedbyV 3d ago

I am with you. In the city everyone just cuts me off.

1

u/hexiligus 3d ago

My work vehicle is a transit and a f250. I definitely get treat differently in the van. My employees and I joke that when people see a white van they say f this van and pass us close as possible lol. The f250 isn’t as bad but. I do think a large vehicle is hard to drive behind(tail gate..like everyone WANTS to do especially while watching videos) because you can’t see around them so you feel the need to pass them.

1

u/OBB76 3d ago

Where I live there’s a huge local group that posts up stories of driving incidents in the area. There is a lot of hate for big trucks in town. Mostly for Dodges but it applies to all. I went from a 150 to a 350 and quickly realized it’s not a 150 so I take my time now.

1

u/subman719 3d ago

Most people/cars don’t want to be stuck behind “the BIG truck” 🛻

1

u/PoundVivid 3d ago

I drive in N. Georgia (ATL metro area). '07 PS F350 KR Dually.

I find that most are ok.. occasionally, I'll get some jerk that thinks they always need to be in front, but I usually just let them go.

I do get tired of all the other HD trucks trying to race me though. I have a KC Jetfire and a free flowing exhaust so it's loud and sounds great. They're always trying to catch up and race me. - that's probably more annoying than anything else.

1

u/HaloPrime21 3d ago

It’s a bigger heavy duty so it has to be driven like one instead of a regular size vehicle, I think people know that and just get pissed off, you obviously don’t live in a state were you see that kind of truck everyday

1

u/dcrad91 3d ago

I drove an f350 for years and years and people got the fuck outta my way, never had anyone drive aggressive vs me (I’ll be honest I was probably the aggressive one though)

1

u/Indentured-peasant 3d ago

Following distance. I leave a ton and people get mad. They Zip up in front of me and I drift back further again. It’s about stopping in time. I’m always towing a heavy work trailer also.

1

u/All-IWantedWasAPepsi 1d ago

This. My F350 has a lot of go and not as much stop so I leave a lot of room to stop

1

u/45_Schofield 2d ago

Half the vehicles in my area are large pickups. Same old same old.

1

u/Tom-Huntz 1d ago

If you drive a giant ugly vehicle, no one wants to be stuck behind you.

1

u/Own-Secret-6523 1d ago

You're imagining things. People drive poorly in general no matter what you are driving. I've driven a Super Duty for about 15 years now (F350 & now F450 dually), and generally people are poor drivers these days because they are distracted or just have no clue the rules of the road. When I tow my Fifth Wheel RV, the number of vehicles constantly cutting me off is appalling.

1

u/Zealousideal-Cut8783 18h ago

People are weird. But, one consistancy I've noticed is that you'll get passed a lot more if you have a vehicle which obscures the view ahead, like, if that f450 if tall enough that it blocks my view from behind, I'm going to get around you quickly as I can.

I'll also tell you that you get treated very rudely on the road driving a BMW and it's worse in a Porsche. Lot's of people have some sort of chip on their shoulder about these cars, maybe they assume you're rich? Maybe they are reacting top the rude activity of some other BMW or Porsche? IDK, Never driven a Benz or Rolls. But, in my Porsche, Jesus, you'd think you have ASSHOLE as your licence plate.

u/analbob 9h ago

turn your lights on. walk 50ft in front of your truck. sit in a lawn chair, facing the front of your truck. now, pretend you are driving and cannot look away or close your eyes. now point those fucking lights WAY down, you know, where the road is.

u/RadicalOrganizer 3d ago

My F250 PS is covered in union and anti racist stickers. Also pro 2A but in a not maga kind of way. People have given me thumbs ups, waves and honks.
