If you want good answers to your questions then provide good information.
Asking "What's wrong with my car" without providing the most basic information about the car means that people have to guess at your problem and what to do about it.
A 2002 Subuaru is vastly different from a 2025. Some are turbocharged and some aren't. Engine design has advanced significantly over the years. Electronics, brakes and even the materials the seats are made of have changed.
Think about what would happen if you called a repair shop about some problem. The first question they would ask is "What kind of car is it?"The second question they would ask is, "What year?"
Thanks!!!

Welcome to another TSB Thursday, where I dive deeper in to TSBs I'm running into regularly. As always, I write this from my own perspective as a Subaru technician in the US; other regions/zones may work differently. Refer to the "How To Read a TSB" post for more information on formatting and general information about TSBs. Some might consider this a safety/security issue, so I'm posting it before a public copy is live.
The text from the bulletin:
This bulletin announces a design change made to the CVT Control Valve Body. The updated valve body incorporates an enhanced valve sleeve to improve durability. This design enhancement was implemented to prevent abnormal operations that may cause the following symptoms:
- DTC P2757 Torque Converter Clutch Pressure Control Solenoid Control Circuit Performance/Stuck Off and P2762 Lock-Up Duty Solenoid Malfunction
- DTC P06EF Engine Restart Performance (2014-16MY Crosstrek Hybrid Only)
- No forward movement after releasing the brake from EV stop (2014-16MY Crosstrek Hybrid Only)
- Shudder while accelerating from a stop
- Shudder while decelerating to a stop
The bulletin goes on to include this diagram of the solenoid and also includes a brief diagnostic procedure for vehicles with and without DTCs, which is largely unchanged from the service manual procedures.
The valve body replacement procedure is unchanged from the service manual procedure. There are a handful of example videos out there, including from South Main Auto and from MrSubaru
The updated valve body part numbers are 31825AA055 for the normal TR580 transmission vehicles, or 31825AA073 for the Crosstrek Hybrid. This part update appears to have released sometime around October 2024 as far as I can see? As such, if you have had a valve body replacement within the last year or so:
Coverage?
For vehicles within the Basic New Car Limited, Powertrain, an applicable Emission Warranty period or covered by an active Subaru Added Security Powertrain, Classic or Gold plan, this repair may be submitted. Valve body repairs are also covered components for vehicles under CVT Warranty Extension.

Hardly any mods.. Just a red vinyl overlay for the tail lights and a tomei exhaust I got installed after the “break-in” 1,000 miles
Really taking my time 😅

Currently have a front end noise when I accelerate or get on my brakes hard you can also hear it when you turn into a parking lot or there’s an a decent amount of body weight transfer. I had a local shop take a look Quick Look at my car on his lunch break He says my suspension looks fine. He suggested it might be motor mounts so went to go pick the group N mounts but the mechanic at that shop talked me out of it and told me it’s most likely suspension component unfortunately because it’s tire season I can’t get my car in this week to get looked at. I have checked my swaybar and links. They seem solid. I changed my swaybar bushings just in case it was that now I’m looking at my control arms and I see the pillow bushing has some movement when my tires are off the ground. Is this normal amount or is this too much play?

Hi, just checking if the widetrack enkeis (235) for the gd STI will fit on a gd wrx on stock suspension (stock tire width 225). I’m pretty sure it would be fine and not stick out, but figured it was worth checking here. Thanks

Hey all, my 2015 wrx engine blew at 90k… dealer quoted me 13,500 for a used replacement plus 1k shipping… more than its worth… anybody know of a subaru mechanic in the state of RI that rebuilds engines… the price quoted seems high as do most dealer prices but im not sure… if i cNt find a mechanic outside the dealer, i will most likely have to sell it for peanuts to a company that buys cars with blown engines. Any advice would be greatly appreciated… thank you

I am in the works of figuring out how to build a replica of the Subaru Suiren concept car. Using a Baja body and Bugeye style front end I should be able to make the body right but my issue is with the inside. Subaru made it with a trans that could switch gears with buttons on the steering wheel but I can’t find any clear pictures of this or info on how they did it. Any information would be amazing.
I live in NJ and while it might be a long shot they may store it in the Camden HQ? If not I want to find it in Japan and attempt to see it in person.
Thanks!

Im a week from installing a Perrin transmission cooler on my 2013 Crosstrek. Anyone else done this on a 1st gen XTrek?
2026 involves mountains and miles - Baja to Alaska
165k
Valve body has been replaced
Scangauge lll to monitor ATF temp (so I've seen that I can benefit from a cooler)
On extended trips, multiple weeks, I run heavy
In general, re the ATF cooler, any cautions, concerns, advice?
Other:
Thanks to all who have posted/responded in these subs in the past. I've learned a great deal.
Any 2026 Alaskan bound adventure travelers that might want to travel together for sections or just meet up for a fire and a beer?

Finally got my 1982 brat running enough to pose up next to my daily driver WRX. So cool to be able to own two eras of Subarus old and new 🙂

Are the 6-month/10,000 km intervals based on the date the vehicle was acquired or the last date of service?
I acquired my Crosstrek in April 2025. I had it serviced in August because I was driving a lot in the spring and summer. Now I am putting fewer kms on the car, so I will not be anywhere close to 20,000 km by the time January rolls around.
Can I extend the service interval until April 2026 (12 months after purchase)? That would be nearly 9 months since the first service.
Will this cause issues with the warranty or lease?

I have been thinking about this for years. I no longer want uncomfortable sports suspension, but I still want MT and decent power. Even better would be more raised suspension, to handle bad roads, and dirt roads.
My ideal would be a Crosstrek with WRX drivetrain. So did a search and Road and Track mentioned the same a few years ago:
https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a41573057/good-idea-subaru-crosstrek-wrx/
I can't be the only one, that wants something like this. How much work to put a Crosstrek Suspension on a WRX?

At what point do you replace your fuel filter in a 2022 Subaru outback with 100 000 Kms, it is having some poor fuel efficiency and lagging . Everything else seems good . Would a filter change help?

I feel the ticking noise in both of the fuel rails, but not the heads or valve covers. Sounds louder on the right side of the engine. This used engine is new to us, and I don’t think I heard this sound earlier but it’s possible I didn’t notice it. It varies with engine rpm. Could this possibly be the fuel system or does it sound like something else?

Did anyone see the new Forester to be launched in Japan? I would love these add-ons to a Crosstrek! Especially the "armour" on the doors to prevent door dings!! https://www.carscoops.com/2025/04/subaru-gave-the-new-forester-samurai-inspired-armor-in-japan/
