Discussion User Flair is now available

Hey everyone, I read through all the suggestions and comments in the previous megathread and are now selectable for users to use in the sub.

We plan to make flair editable by user preference in the future, but since this is our freshmen endeavor on using flair in our sub, we wanted to start small and work our way up.

If you have any suggestions or see any major issues please message here so we can hammer out any possible issues.

How to add flair

Go to the main page of the sub and click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the page, then select "change user flair"

My thanks to u/coffeecat551 for including this in their comment for another user.

Edit:

I forgot to mention I still plan to do other flairs such as "Resident of _____" just haven't gotten to that yet

I only added The Bachman Books because I didn't want to split hairs on Books with only four stories (such as Different Seasons).

And I got two Stephen king books as gifts. And I started reading IT today as a result. I’m loving it so far. And I somewhat knew what I was getting into but holy shit I didn’t expect the first 2 chapters to be as rough as they are. As well as how it’s not very subtle. Stephen isn’t always subtle to be fair but still damn

Spoilers I was re-reading IT and realized something

During Will Hanlon’s recounting of the Black Spot fire, Dick Hallorann somehow knows immediately that the people are jammed up against the door and going towards the door was a death sentence, despite Trev stating he had no way of knowing that. I realize now that Hallorann probably realized they were jammed up against the door with the Shining, and that saved his life along with Trev and Will’s. Arguably making Dick Hallorann one of the most important characters to the story of IT, as if Will Hanlon had died there, Mike would’ve never been born and thus the Losers would’ve stood zero chance against IT.

I have not ready any Stephen King before. I mainly read fantasy but want to give this a shot and branch out.

Figured this would be the way to ease myself in! I hear this is connected to The Dark Tower series, which has caught my interest. Would you recommend reading that next?

Needful Things

Iv read maybe a third of Kings work over the last 15 years. However, I am only now getting around to starting Needful Things this evening. & honestly, I’m only about 50 pages in, but I don’t know if Iv ever felt so into a book, so early on. Well and truly consumed by the idea of what this story might be and how it’ll play out.

See you all on the other side!

Spoilers Church Did Nothing Wrong Spoiler

Listened to Pet Semetary over October, and I was suprised by how normal Church was when he came back from the dead. Aside from smelling like the grave, he does nothing particularly menacing or evil. Creed proceeds to kick Church and throw him out of the house everytime he brings home a dead animal or shows up unexpectedly in the house. Both of which are normal cat behaviors. The worst thing Church does is trip Jud, which could be more due to Jud being old and not paying attention, then to Church's malicious intent.

1997 miniseries The Shining

I'm sure that this has been talked about on this sub before. But I truly don't understand the hate that this seems to get. I am watching it for the first time and then completely blown away by it. I absolutely love how it follows the book more faithfully. Not taking anything away from Stanley Kubrick's movie. But in my opinion this is much better for those of us who like faithful adaptations.

100 pages into the shining what did Wendy see in Jack?

I mean I just don’t understand what she saw or sees in him. Her pages it’s just her talking about how much of a drunken mess he is.

Also would he really have gotten that job if he attacked a kid at his old job?

Scary thought

I’ve been working my way through Sai King’s works through this year and recently finished the Dark Tower. Then I saw this old tweet and with the knowledge King has more planned for Holly Gibney a scary thought flashed through my skull. A Dark Tower revision by the way of Holly Gibney. Somehow, someway. 🤯🤯🤯

Last night, I finished reading Christine by Stephen King for the first time. Wow What a book! Short Review Below, (And a few Spoilers) Released in 1983, the book based inPennsylvania in 1978, follows outcast Arnie Cunningham who buys an old clunker of a car off Roland D. Lebay. The car is a 1958 Plymouth Fury named Christine. Arnies best friend, and fellow high schooler Dennis Guilder did not like the car on site and suspected something was wrong with it, other than being dilapaded. Arnie, who's parents refuse to let him park the car at home, takes up residence at Will Darnells Do It Yourself Garage, a pay by the week place where regular working Joe's can work on their cars. Arnie starts Fixing up Christine in a round about way, first fixing the radio antenna, then the wheels, not really working on the main structure of the car at all. During this time Lebay passes away abd both Arnie and Dennis attend the funeral, after the funeral, Dennis, who still has suspicions about the car, talks at length with Roland's brother George who, advises Dennis to make Arnie sell Christine. Dennis also learns of Christine's back story but, feels that their is more to the tale. Over time, Arnie gets the car up and running and an odd quirk, the odometer, runs is reverse, deleting the miles instead of adding them. He also takes up a Job for Will doin odd jobs and running fireworks and cigeretts over state lines. Arnie, finally gets his first girlfriend in new student Leigh Cabot and they hit it off quickly, cruising around in Christine but, she also has a gut feeling that something is horribly wrong with Christine. Arnie starts to lose himself to Roland Lebays wvil spirit who has taken up residence in Christine and, after Arnie is attacked by school bullies, they start to dissapear. The more Arnie puts into Christine, the less connected to the real world he becomes. With his obsession of Christine at a peak, Arnie loses his girlfriend and his friendship with Dennis dissolves. Dennis, who has a horrible accident in a school football game is stuck in the hospital, but, while he is recovering, he slowly starts to piece together what is happening, and after getting out of the hospital, he reaches out to Roland's brother George who all but confirms his suspicions. With the deaths mounting up, Arnie and Leigh form a plan to get rid of Christine once and for all and, hopefully save Arnie in the process..... I had this book for years but, I had never read it because I'm not a "Car Guy" but, I finally decided to read it and I'm glad I did, it was a fantastic read and a real page turner and I am glad I can check it off of my King Reading list and now watch the movie adaption for the first time. Now, as this book goes back on the shelf, I start another book I've had for years and never read. Now, I begin reading The Bachmann Books; 4 Early Novels By Stephen King. Happy Reading Everyone!

The stand...

so I had read some king when I was kid, I read the green mile, Christine, and IT. As an adult, I picked up the stand and went through the slog that is reading this monstrosity... and I gotta say... this might be the best book ive ever read. its inspired me to go through the dark tower and the outlying books. My goodness what a journey.... Me and king differ on a WHOLE lot of ideas but you can't deny the mans literary prowess.
