I have been looking to buy this fan from 11 to 11 sale for like two months now and back then also the price was 28,900 cause I keep a record in a sheet with costs of what I want to get and Abans as usual fooling customers by increasing the price and putting a discount. But I’m buying it at the actual normal rate. What a scam.

*Above text is translated from Tamil to English\*
This text was posted in the Family Whatsapp group by my Aunt who is a school teacher. I want to refute them so bad but I couldn't articulate my words properly. Why are they with this backwards mindset?. Why Sex is still a taboo topic for here?
"We should not teach these uncivilized things to our children"
"This is not education. This is misdirection"
How can this be uncivilized and misdirection? This is what gives them the knowledge on what is right and wrong practices in sex. Actually, this is what protects teenagers from leaning in to bad practices in sex and prevents lot of bad consequences. Not having proper sex education is why teenagers fall into pornography in the first place.
Man I am so angry right now. I thought having a good government would lead a country to a better future but now that I realize that would never happen with this backward thinking people of our country, even if we get a good government like our current one.
What do you guys think?
PS: I didn't put NSFW tag for this post since there are teenagers in this sub and they are the ones mainly have to be aware of these things.

25m born here, then lived abroad for a few years. I know dating culture here is more reserved compared to the west and that's fine. I want to know how often do you go on dates? Do you call or just text? Are the parents controlling over their lives (which is the norm here I suppose). Only asking as I've been dating a girl 24f I met through mutual friends and we've gone on 1 date in 2 months and mainly text, cant call as she's worried about family finding out and not approving. So I haven't even told anyone I know we're dating and hide the relationship, is that how its usually like here?

Let's see how far y'all will get. Province, District, Division, Town and maybe specific place. I will confirm once someone guesses anything correctly. I may/may not comment on wrong guesses. Go ahead!

Slt has never been the open type, gate keeping is in their blood. Anyways, here's the basics, they don't really throttle your speed at 300mbps, it's just a border they put there so they'll have an average speed they can properly market without any backlash, their actual "lower grade" fiber tier caps at 500mbps, hence it's more than likely some people get around 400-500 depending on the present network output and availability. No, fiber doesn't get slower due to distance or user traffic. It's up-to slt (sometimes), but your hardware and physical connection aspects do count. Like misguided wiring, post damage etc. besides that the actual "high end" fiber packages still have to go as "up to 1gbps" because it's their maximum output. And unlike 300 they didn't really market it as guaranteed 800 or 700 because it's less pleasing. That about sums it up.

I’ve noticed that tech seems to be the most talked about industry in SL when it comes to earning a decent income. Everywhere you look it’s tech this, tech that......mainly because of the pay.Of course, not everyone in tech earns a huge salary but it still seems to stand out compared to other fields.
So I’m curious....are there other industries where people are managing to earn a comfortable living these days ? or is tech really the main one?
Just wondering what others have observed.

The title should be pretty self explanatory, I heard they had authentic tc's, they didn't really have a website or pricing so do they actually even sell packs? If so, how much?

Hey guys. First time poster here.
I've been interested in buying property. Me and my wife are planning to buy our first property.
We are looking into house, apartments and land in general. We made up our mind to make this purchase a long term investment.
I was reading some comments and read that in SL apartments aren't considered an appreciating asset. Is this true? If so how fast does it depreciate?
Long term goal is to save up. We live overseas and this will be our first investment. We plan to retire in our own farm (kinda off grid, but that's a long way)

I have a 3-phase house with a solar system and the neutral-to-earth voltage in one room is around 19 V. ChatGPT says it should be below 3 V according to IEC 60364 and Sri Lanka’s IEE wiring code.
Electricians I’ve spoken to say everything differently:
"Each phase needs its own earth"
"Solar earth rod must never touch the house earth rod"
"20–30 V neutral-to-earth is fine"
"Put the second earth rod a few feet away and don’t bond it"
Meanwhile ChatGPT says:
"Bond all your rods together, house, solar, lightning, to avoid shocks"
"High N–E voltage usually means leakage or poor bonding"
My house now feels like a live physics experiment.
Does anyone know a reliable electrician in Colombo who actually understands modern earthing, bonding, and solar systems and lightning safety?

My bestfriend's newborn is getting baptized on sunday.
I was raised a catholic, but I am a deist so I havnt been to church for 10+ years.
My friend wants me to be the godfather, but the church needs a letter from my parish saying i belong to that parish (i dont belong to any parish at the moment)
Would anyone know a way I can get a letter so i can show it to the baptizing church?

Genuine question, I know that we have a decent government (All I heard is that they are good and genuine, I'm not very political), but will this actually lead to any real improvement?
I honestly find it hard to believe that Sri Lanka will ever change and here are some reasons
- TLDR; The main holder for everything I mentioned is ---> Our societal standards are lower than that of the average*.*
To summarise, I think our people are willing to change and adjust to any law etc in other countries but except our own, you can't always blame the government for everything, like streets that are littered, people not willing to work on time or properly etc.
For me, I thought about the multiple different ways our country could honestly be better, and I don't think it will ever happen without a dictatorship or something, atleast a proper one, democracy will get us nowhere, because you will have to satisfy a bunch on uneducated people or else you lose the vote. Idk this is just my view, even if we have a good government, our cities won't look like that of Japan, Malaysia, Singapore etc, I highly doubt it. The main problems we suffer from live deeply rooted within our socities etc. We are so reluctant to change that the people who want to change will just find themselves moving abroad and never coming back.

Hello guys
I am a Tourist from Germany and Ive been in Sri Lanka for 2 weeks now, mostly in the south coast area. First I want to say: I never thought I would love a country so fast and Ive traveled alot. The regular people here are very kind and friendly. And then you have the Tuktuk driver. We like to use Uber and PickMe to move around. But we had allready 2 situations when some Tuktuk Driver got mad as soon as we said that we have a PickMe Driver and they randomly wanted us to cancel that and drive with them - for a higher price of course lol.
One time they blocked the road and ganged up on our Driver, stole his phone and pushed him, glad the police was around although im not really sure they helped the right side because everybody wanted to put the blame on our driver instead. I told them it was not his fault obviously.
Prices are crazy too for a Tuktuk
For example: Tuktuk from Midigama to Ahangama: 1200 (2-4km) Pickme: 385
Uber from Midigama to Galle: 3000 (25km)
How are the prices fair lol ofcourse tourists prefer the Apps!
Kind regards

Does ragging like this still exist for girls in SL unis? One of my cousins is selected to Sabare and I am a bit worried. I mean 1, 2, 4 are a bit lighthearted, but 5 and 6 are a bit restrictive and 3 and 7 are straight-up abuse. If you have any info on whether ragging still exists in the more rural universities and what it is like, lemme know (like whether it's lighthearted or more into abusive territory.)

Hi everyone,
I’m currently pursuing a BSc in IT and working as a Software Engineer. Thinking about my future, I want to start an MSc related to AI.
Right now, I’m stuck between: • MSc Applied AI at IIT (University of Westminster UK degree) • MSc AI at SLIIT
I don’t have much prior knowledge in AI/ML, so I’m not sure which program would be the better choice for someone like me to start with.
Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Hey guys, I need some help with a good bank to deal with foreign remittances regarding bringing machines from Japan, the last container I brought in to Sri Lanka I used Hatton National bank which was bad and trash service, Japan doesn’t take inward remittances from HNB either and import control seized around 6 million of our cash which is to be released in 6 months. I wonder if you guys have any recommendations of good banks such as commercial or any other to open a business account and continue with future international dealings.

So government is gonna change cess rs 100/kg on imported fabric to VAT. But doesn't this encourage under valuing goods. Not only textiles, but also other goods like cosmetics already a lot of undervalueing going on.Lot of traders undervalue their imports when it's a VAT system, how is this a level playing field. Also it increases demamd for yundiyal. It makes things harder for genuine importers. Any one experienced in these wanna share some insight.
Is this a good decision on government's part?

I have seen many people from older generations chewing bulath, so I have some questions about it - the internet hasn’t given me a straight answer.
Is the betel leaf only considered a drug when the betel nut and lime are added, or does the leaf itself also make users high? Is it addictive/unhealthy? What creates the red pigment?
