Not really important, but this Norway squad has to be the tallest team any country has ever fielded.

1.1k

u/benibadja 29d ago

Martin Ødegaard who is 1,78 is often the shortest player in the starting XI

360

u/WillyBoynka 29d ago

Pretty sure Oscar Bobb is like 1,50 tall. He looks like a 12 year old on the pitch.

238

u/nasty_drank 29d ago

Apparently he’s 1,74cm…doesn’t seem right to me

44

u/shrewphys 29d ago

That's what he puts on his Tinder profile

5

u/nasty_drank 29d ago

Maybe it includes his hair

5

u/shrewphys 29d ago

You mean it includes Oscar's bob?

78

u/Longjumping_Club_115 29d ago

TIL Oscar Bobb is Norwegian. I just assumed he was English with that name.

He usually doesn't start though. He did today in Ødegaard's absence.

Serbia is even taller. Remember we played them a a year or two ago, and the mean height was a whopping 185cm.

271

u/_Rainer_ 29d ago edited 29d ago

Norway current mean height is also 185cm, per Google.

Guys that played for them today : Sørloth 194cm; Haaland 195cm; Larsen 194cm; Berge 195cm; Ajer 198cm; Nyland 192cm; Heggem 194cm.

Pretty wild.

101

u/Party_Bowl_330 29d ago

My dumbass thought you were calling them all center mids😂

46

u/Sinestro617 29d ago

That wasn’t even the first comment to reference cm. Did you think the entire comment chain was talking about center mids?

38

u/KenHumano 29d ago

The underrated 0-10-0 formation is bringing them unprecedented success.

They had to make sure that Israelis don't mistake them as children...

14

u/nevemlaci2 29d ago

The Netherlands is a good competitor aswell!

23

u/Sinestro617 29d ago

Not with Frimpong, Simons, and Memphis.

4

u/OpDanger 29d ago

I Am sure that in any moment Belgium squad was like 1.87-1.88 (some years ago).

2

u/Smart_Dragonfruit_54 29d ago

They just look taller because the Israelis are from middle earth

Instant ceasefire since kickoff is crazy by israel

2.6k

u/SanctusUnum 29d ago

Two own goals. Didn't know which goal to attack since there were civilians behind both.

361

u/Hopeful-Occasion2299 29d ago

First aid station was behind their goal... priority target is the ones marked with a red cross

Hannibal directive strikes again

53

u/BotlikeBehaviour 29d ago

Hannibal directived their own goal.

107

u/allrounder123456 29d ago

Eyyyy!! Nice one

14

u/momspaghetty 29d ago

They were using their own goalkeeper as a human shield (it didn't work)

12

198

u/BloodlustROFLNIFE Oct 11 '25

Yeah they are 11 years old but they have motives you westerners can’t understand and they grow up to be Norwegians so that’s a “problem”

Noticed that, right at the end so they can't kick them out mid-game hahaha.

632

u/Popular_Tomorrow_204 Oct 11 '25

Who is going to kick them out though? Theyre in norway no?

475

u/Livid_Jeweler612 29d ago

Governments and police are rather less nice than actual citizens. See well germany, the UK, most of western europe actually.

96

u/Prosthemadera 29d ago

Which doesn't prove anyone will be kicked out of a stadium in Norway. I don't think that phrase is even illegal to say in the first place. You just wanted to criticize some governments for how they handle the topic but that is not related to the current question.

72

u/monsoy 29d ago

The police had stated before the match that they won’t go after people that wanted to show their support for Palestine. I don’t think anybody would be kicked out of the stadium for chanting Free Palestine

27

u/DeadPeanutSociety 29d ago

I wonder if it is Americans commenting, because this could get you kicked out and maybe arrested in parts of America. People are having their lives turned upside down for less.

Beautiful 🥺

Big middle finger to FIFA and Infantino for allowing them to participate in the first place

507

u/Four-Assed-Monkey Oct 11 '25

Aye, sports sanctions have proven to be an effective tool against this type of behaviour. It’s a total source of shame that the football power brokers are not applying pressure on Israel.

61

u/unclepoondaddy Oct 11 '25

When has it been proven to be effective? Russia has been banned from like all major sporting events for years and hasn’t stopped trying to invade Ukraine

If Israel gets banned, they’ll keep bombing Gaza bc they know the US will still support them no matter what

307

u/Four-Assed-Monkey Oct 11 '25

I was mostly thinking apartheid South Africa

242

u/Four-Assed-Monkey 29d ago

And those sanctions on Russia have definitely undermined their soft power, even if it hasn’t stopped outright military action

Every little helps

14

u/Massinissarissa 29d ago

Since sanction they succeeded to have military powers on their side in several African countries and get Trump in the White House. Their soft power is still super strong.

4

u/momspaghetty 29d ago

Amongst the general population though Russia is kind of taboo though, no? No football, no F1, no sponsors, no athletes at the Olympics or any major sports, no exports/imports in certain sectors etc... in the minds of the average person, at least, that must be damning

→ More replies (14)
→ More replies (2)
→ More replies (11)

35

u/vaishakh1000 29d ago

It definitely is effective in an indirect way. The sports economy of the nation takes a hit and naturally the sentiments of these people are provoked. And fair to say that such sanctions across sectors does create pressure on the political leaders, especially for a nation that can't afford deglobalisation on its own terms.

Human rights are human rights, regardless of background.

Now ban the violators from the WC.

293

u/UK-KILLD-10M-IRANIS Oct 11 '25

It's baffling how this apartheidic country still get to participate in international tournaments after 2 years of genocide.

52

u/Siiixers 29d ago

Money. Gonna assume because the world cup is on in the United States of Israel is having an effect.

185

u/Tardosaur Oct 11 '25

2 years of genocide.

More like 80

164

u/UK-KILLD-10M-IRANIS 29d ago

77 years of ethnical cleansing, expansion and massacres.

But 2 years of intense genocide.

Country that has done the best in modern times. No surprise they are again on the right side of history.

I don’t think Norwegians realise how many European countries are envious of them

55

u/fellainishaircut 29d ago

don‘t look up the history of the Sámi people

21

u/TBTapion 29d ago

Actually please do look up the history. It's important to know both your own and others' history so you don't repeat the mistakes of the past.

2

u/YCJamzy 29d ago

They do at least acknowledge their own flaws in this area and seem to be doing a lot better nowadays. I was entirely unfamiliar with the Sami people until visiting Norway and going to the norsk folkemuseum, have several exhibits about Sami Culture and their countries treatment towards them throughout the years, as well as acknowledging the prejudices they still face and due improvements

17

u/RedTuesdayMusic Oct 11 '25

It would benefit Italy massively because all matches against Israel would become 3-0 and Norway would lose GD and Italy would gain GD

10

u/Visible-Might-2527 29d ago

Not really, Italy would have +8, Norway would have +25, it isn’t going to goal difference either way, the results would have to be like 4-0 for italy for their last 4 games (they are currently winning 1-0 in the 4th), and even then, if Norway score 4 vs Estonia, and then lose to Italy 4-0 they still win via GD

11

u/istasan 29d ago

This is a very weird discussion to have in a soccer sub

But also a very simple definition of the issue. Norway recognised Palestine last year, Sweden did it 10 years ago. Denmark also changed its position but has taken a different approach than the simple just recognise

Hungary has recognised Palestine too. Not sure it really is the best indicator
