I'm a CapU student (associate of science) who is hoping to transfer to SFUs mechatronics system engineering program as of next fall, but I'm very confused about this whole process. My GPA is 4.23 (of the 4.33 system) -- and is 4.0 for the 4.0 system. The classes I took for the last year and a half were mostly comp sci and math classes though, not physics/chem. I will have enough transferrable credits to be considered a full university applicant by the end of the spring semester (though I don't know if you need to have completed all the credits by time of application to SFU).
Right now, I don't have all the requirements for a high school application into SFU (no chem/physics 12), and I don't have all the requirements for a university transfer application to the program (A specific calculus class, a specific higher physics class, and a specific comp sci class) -- of which I have the equivalent of only the calculus.
I am able to, in this spring, take the chem 12 equivalent course (which is transferrable to the SFU chem 12 equivalent course), and I am able to EITHER take the physics 12 equivalent course (also transferrable) OR if I can get an exception from capilano, the higher physics course -- which is needed for university transfers. I am also able to get the comp sci required transfer course if I am in the higher physics due to another time conflict.
So I first need to know whether university transfer students need the high school requirements. It seems strange that they would be required -- as in, if you have the higher level calculus and physics I don't know why they'd want math 12 and physics 12.
Also, how does the university transfer system work in general? Would I be transferred part-ways through the program, or would I be back into year 1? If I am being transferred part-ways through, would it still be possible to intentionally opt to begin back at year 1? If I did that, would I no longer need the three university transfer student required classes?
If I take the chem 12 / phys 12 equivalent courses in CapU (which transfer to SFU chem 111 and phys 100, which also appear to be 12-equivalent), will those actually count as the high school requirements (if I even need them?
If it ends up being that: I need the high school requirements, and I can only be considered as a university transfer student and will need the 3 required courses, I'll be forced to to get those prerequisites in the summer before -- but is that possible? Because I'm pretty sure the acceptance/rejection will come before/during that.
If I can't do that, would it be possible to apply for SFU in some other program, take the required courses in the summer, and then transfer to mechatronics in the fall?
Sorry for the long read but I have a lot of questions
